We all have our own opinions, and due to this life-law, I will educate you about mine.

I hate Pink Floyd more than I do Enrique Anglaises. It has nothing to do with their music as it was obviously successful. It matters not, to me, however and while the proof is supposedly in the pudding in these sorts of things, I love cutting against the grain due to the following:

- They take complex avenues to explain simple ideas.
- Their deciples consist of druggies, pedophiles, anarchists, criminals, losers and people who are either unemployed or have no life worth spending a 15-minute discussion over.
- The music this band made lacks the allure of everyday-sort of music--you know, the music we have little reservations of keeping on our radios while we drive around each day.
- I hate them simply because my oldest brother hates them. ...Long story...

So this post is my assertion about my "Pink Floyd Angst". As for the person or people on here to blab on and on about "how much LSD they took" and whatnot, tell me this: were you ever there backstage or with this group during their song writing? Were any of you at home with these people or in their garages during their practice sessions? Did you ever go over to their August barbecues? NO. None of you did this. So anyone who claims that they did a little or a lot of LSD is full of shit.

???

!!!

quite ridicolous, boy. What you're saying is quite silly and insuling for almost everyone around here. Maybe you could be right about the LSD point, altough it's known that Sid had some "little" problems doe to LSD use. Please, DO NOT ever listen to Sunn O)) or your concept of "everyday-sort-of-music" will sink. And after all, I can't understand why in your opinion PF fans are the scum of the earth.

They were great 35-40 years ago, and I enjoyed them then. It's now a little tired and over-played. Does anyone really need to hear "Money" or "The Wall" anymore?

yesterday floyd's fabulous concert in pompeji was on arte. the jamming on echoes was pure psychedelic greatness, it's pretty obvious that nearly all of those so-called progressive rock bands (and especially motorpsycho) owe them a lot.

Back in 2002 I brought a friend to the MP paradiso-show. He was not to familiar with MP but very impressed.
Afterwards he talked to Snah backstage and asked if they were influenced by Pink Floyd.
Snah replied: 'oh yeah, shitloads'.

So, there you go.

Oh Yeah and 2002 they still played "Close Yr Eyes", a great song, which many of us hoped for to be released... and it definetlely had that Pink Floyd-Vibe to it (at least I would say so).

Have to agree with Casey!

I'm "trying" to sit through 'The Wall' - first time viewing it having heard it's brilliant! A Masterpiece! A Must See!

I get the general idea of the movie, but all in all, it just seems like overcomplicated PISH!

Hope I haven't offended tooo many peeps - jus tmy opinion.

Why is everything they've created so complex? Intense? Unable to be explain simply and by the feeble minded ? So questioning / in depth?

I understand people will shout "Ah, you just don't get it then", but I have to wonder if even the Floyd Lads understood what they were writing / creating at the time (most likely no) and even to this day?!

Because they were tripping most of the time, everyone thinks their work is Epic, Magnificent and Timeless. They raised the bar, set the standard and NO other band could ever reach their triumphant highs.

It's confusing crap in my opinion. They were trying too hard to be the most cryptic, misunderstood band in the world......only understood and loved by 'true fans' - the ones who 'get it'.

And no I'm not a testy Top-40 lovin` teen here trying to case trouble. I'm 34 and firmly believe there were plenty of other bands who created brilliant music and have left an amazing legacy.

Pink Floyd - their music is so depressive, pseudo-deep and filled with such whacked out references / imagery that it makes you truly just wears a buddy out!

it seems like they succeeded in doing so :-)

just to clarify some myths around this band: they were not tripping most of the time. Syd Barrett (their first singer/guitarist) was tripping too much, but he left the band in early 1968. The band were hardly on drugs since, apart from the occasional joint.

the wall in itself is not representative for the band as a whole. to me, such a view is similar to saying that lobotomizer, the tussler or even phanerothyme is representative for all that mp have produced.

you are entitled to your own opinion, but please get the facts right.

@Post and Pre Pink for me!: Do you have examples of this "confusing crap", and how they are cryptic?

Most of their later and most well-known albums (DSotM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut) are pretty straight forward lyric-wise and conceptually. DSotM is about coming to terms with life, ageing, capitalist society etc. WYWH is about Syd Barrett, and about the record industry. Animals is about society in general, based off of George Orwells 'Animal Farm'. The Wall is of course about coping with fame, loosely based upon Waters' childhood and lack of a father, among other things. The Final Cut is sort of a continuation of that concept, adding in some anti-war stuff.

Their mid-period stuff is pretty run of the mill psychedelic lyrics, but they do have some pretty good stuff there as well. See Ummagumma and Meddle, Saucerful of Secrets. Sure, it's spaced out, but what psychedelic/progressive rock bands weren't spaced out around 1967-72? I don't see Pink Floyd as trying to be overly "cryptic" or confusing if you also look at the rest of the experimental music scene of the time.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn and early Floyd, sure, full of strange Stuff, but that -is- actually written by a man on acid (Syd).

Just gotta read between the lines. They didn't write pop lyrics.
