Good News! Bent and Snah are recording these days...
June 20, 2005 04:10PM
Just got the Stickman-newsletter-email...
Here it is:
As most of you probably already know, Gebhardt left Motorpsycho a couple of
months ago. His departure was not caused by any arguments or problems within
the band, it was purely a personal decision of his. They are still good
friends, and Bent and Snah wish him the best for his future musical career.
Since he left, there has been a lot of wild speculation about his
replacement as well as about the future of Motorpsycho. As of now, Gebhardt
has not been “replaced”. Bent and Snah will continue on their own and when
it’s time for another tour, they will have a drummer join them for the live
shows. If and when this drummer will become a steady member of the band
cannot be answered yet – only time will tell.
And yes, Bent and Snah have spent some time in The Void Studio in Eindhoven,
Holland. What will happen with these recordings would purely be speculation
on my part. They are recording for the sake of recording, and working on new
material. They will be returning to the studio for another couple of weeks
later in the summer.

yihaa! i am really, really looking forward to this record...i think that the departure of geb, though it was 'sad', is a golden opportunity for a freeflow of new and creative vibes. i think it will be an accelerator for change, and without change there is death...
with the past exploration of musical space that the band has done on the latest records, particulalryl tussler 2 and the fisbowl album, and think the new record will be really, really exciting, and my expectations are hereby noted as being HIGH!

My heroes survived the Beatles.............so let's burn a candle
Bent and Snah are recording...... yes I know, but I think we ALL should realise that the dream is over................

I agree, Don't dismiss the new record before its release. It might just be the best MP album you've heard for all you know.

oooohhh! fiddlesticks...the dream is NOT over it has only taken on a different hue, conseqeuntly with new possibilities of all that is good...people have to stop this incessant whining of how everything-was-so-much-better-before...you sound like an old grumpy fart...

despite repeating myself: CHANGE IS GOOD!

regression is bad, bad, bad...it is what bands who have no creative imagination resort to, and likewise their regressive fans who think change is dangerous...

motorpsycho is a PROGRESSIVE band, playing PROGRESSIVE ROCK!

get with the program johan...the future is bright

mp is not a progressive band playing prog rock, in my view. they're a band that has loads of influences that they combine to make music they like. (luckily i like it, too).
some of their influences do come from porg rock and, arguably, some of their songs are prog rock songs. but labelling them a prog rock band is short changing them.

When will the record be released?

the band is just recording 'for the sake of recording'. it's way too early to discuss possible release dates as the band may yet have to decide if they will release an album in the first place.

Last week i got myself a mp3-player and i thought this would be a got possibility to hear some older mp-records again (to make it a mp-player- ha!). Its magic, it always was and it always will be (sorry, mp always makes me a bit lofty). I can't image the two left of them doing anything that is not filled with this spirit.
so i hope they publish anything sometime and i'm sure if they do it will be 100% mp.

I wasn't referring to mp being a strict prog band, although that is certainly one of the many good qualities they provide. I was referring to mp being a progressive band, i.e. one that is continually developing and exploring new musical terrain, thus the label, and thus i do not believe labelling them as a progressive (not a prog band) band is short changing them in any way...

consequently, this time of change is, I believe, a fantastic opportunity for another progression. Also, there are several examples of bands who in periods of great stress come out with possaibly their greatest albums: Beatles (starting to break up) 'abbey road', primus (new drummer!) 'brown album', grateful dead (busted for dope, manager left with all their cash) 'workingmans dead' and 'american beauty'...so ye of little faith...great things are ahead!
