that sucks. the download is 773mb.

Well, it is a matter of patience, i think.
That's what bothers me about the populairity of mp3.
The fact that people don't have time to download "quality".
What is a day in a life, when you're gonna play that recording many times again ?

I'm about to release some shows from this tour too.
But just because there are people around deforming the sound to MP3, I'm VERY hesitant to seed it on a public torrent site.
I don't want my efforts to be heard and especially SHARED in lo-bitrate.
Altough, I do like the fact that people can instantly download the stuff I did for them.

I see your point, but I do not agree.
These are two different things really.
Mp3 conversion does something to the high-end that can never be repaired again.
Nomatter how bad a recording sounds, you're gonna have even more degradation when coverting to mp3. And then, in the bootleg scene MOST people prefer lossless recordings, no matter how shittily recorded.
They want the best quality, even if the recording quality is not that good.

That is just not true, but as you already said we seem to disagree here.

There's nothing wrong w/ that if people like your work and mark your version as a different compared one to the one the taper released.
Waves plug-ins are fairly decent. I worked with them when I started, and use some of them today still (not the eq's though but the linMB for example).
But having said that, mastering is a delicate thing and many people (even so-called professional mastering engineers) out there tend to overdo things (especially things like noise reduction (YUCK!), excessive eq-ing or too much limiting).

Well Prof_Sound I hope you will make them available on yousendit or rapidshare so I can enjoy them.

I'll be looking forward to it.

Prof_Sound; please do upload what you have. maybe you can add a disclaimer, stating that you don't want the material converted to mp3? people like GDB should (and will, i think) respect such a request.

Then perhaps we should start respecting Bent and Snah for not wanting bad audio of their concerts circulating... smiling smiley

From the faq-section about Motorpsycho's view on bootlegs: "some of these recordings are of bad sound-quality and Motorpsycho is very unhappy about them being heard"

That's the best way to do it. You can never be CERTAIN that people won't mess with what you upload - it's a risk you take. A disclaimer will at least tell the people who download how you WANT your stuff NOT to be treated.

Why won't you allow the possibility to choose between flac and mp3? That way the people who can actually tell the difference get what they want, and the people who can't (or don't care about the tiny difference) get what they want.

i really think people who record and share shows make a lot of people happy. About the sharing of MP3's, off course i and most of the others will respect the wish not to encode to lossless formats, i know i won't encode it.

SO, thanx a lot once again for recording and sharing!

And for the Molde Jazz thingy which i uploaded:

i did not encode it, i don't even have the tools for it. I just got it this way and thought i'd do people a favor by uploading it.

I guess it is just time for Roadworks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 , 9 & 10.........

-->i think spreading two versions would end in a big mess very soon. If these recordings are being spread not labelled correctly, it is a nightmare to find out what versions are OK and what are not (before a trade or download).

"the most notable difference is that the mp3-file lacks dynamics, and low-level detail is missing."
--> that is exactly my experience.

As I see this: my ears aren't good enough to actually hear the difference between lossless and mp3-encoded audio. I have nearly all of my CDs encoded to 192kbps mp3 on my hard drive and mostly listen to music this way, and listening to CDs or vinyls I cant hear much of a difference, only perhaps on some songs at a louder volume. And also perhaps it's not my ears, but my preamp which isnt that great (my speakers are fine I guess).
So, I wouldnt care if stuff is getting shared in mp3s. I cant tell the difference, and most other people also cant. Its clearly a minority who is able to tell what a mp3 lacks and whatnot. And often the advantage in sound can only be proven via some sound software statistics?? (Same thing with Vinyls and CDs - I personally think Vinyls dont sound anything better - but I know I could get on religious territory there with some people...)

Still, I have a broadband internet connection, so I dont care downloading flacs. The thing that matters is to enjoy the recording, and if it takes a few hours (the Darmstadt show download didnt last that long anyway...), I can take it.
I will even burn them lossless on CDs so I have them for later, for whatever case. I still use mp3s then for personal use and my ipod. I respect the claims for lossless audio, even my personal opinion is that there is no clear advantage.
So, I see the problem the people have with seeding stuff as mp3. Once you do that, it will get harder and harder to actually get the lossless stuff and for audiophile people this can be considered horror, right?
Hm.. so I guess there will never be a solution that fits all... so just keep on discussing! winking smiley
Anyway... my claim is to have the shows both released in high-quality mp3 and flac - since there are also people with limited bandwith and dialup connections who cant afford to be online all the time for a recording which takes ages... but thats just me, as I said, I am absolutely willing to get the lossless stuff, too.

Two version wouldn't become a mess. There would be one version in flac and one version in mp3. Can't call that a mess, nor could it become one. 1+1=2: That's pretty simple. 1+1+34+0,976+577,13+75,9671=98??7654?!345: That's a mess. smiling smiley
