Kanon at Moldejazz
May 05, 2007 02:08PM
Kanon is announced for Molde jazz, see this link

It says that Øyvind Brandtseeg has pulled together a band with Motorpsycho as the core. Snah and Sæther is part of the group, but there is also written that "Kenneth Kapstad (Motorpsycho) - trommer/drums" is playing... I guess they`ve written wrong.winking smiley

I could also imagine that Kenneth Kapstad replaces Jacco at the following Festival-tour...
But who is this guy (is it the same guy who played the last "Kanon"?) confused smiley

Don't know much about this Kapstad guy, but I think he has played with Norwegian bands GÃ¥te and Dadafon as well as other more jazz-related projects. Related to jazz composer and pianist Egil Kapstad?

GÃ¥te is a fucking brilliant band! Their album Iselilja is sheer genius.

Too bad it's never been released outside of Norway. Being a Dutchman I had to download it. Import would have been too expensive (like 30 euro's for one disk which is out of the question).

But I guess Jacco is out then? Too bad, I really liked him in MP.

GÃ¥te WAS a decent band. They broke up after Iselilja.

I think I'll await a confirmation before calling Kapstad
the new MP-drummer. But in some interview Jacco said that
he had taken a year off from work in order to be the MP-
drummer. So it's possible that he's out.

Approximate translation:

KAPSTAD NEW DRUMMER IN MP
Kapstad is going to play with MP this summer

Kapstad replaces last year's live-drummer Jacco van Rooij and is going to play with Bent Sæther and Hans Magnus "Snah" Ryan on several festivals this summer, including Quartfestivalen and Storåsfestivalen. - Snah phoned me in February and asked if I wanted to jam with them on some new songs. Since then we've rehearsed together, explains the popular drummer. The 28 year old has played with Dadafon and Gåte, and plays in Animal Alpha and Monolitich, as well as in Motorpsycho. I have grown up with Motorpsycho and always been a fan of their music, and I thought it was very cool to be asked to join. We have many of the same references, Purple, Sabbath, Motorhead - and that makes communication easy in rehearsals. It was during last years performance of Øyvind Brandtsægg's "Kanon" that Kapstad played with Sæther and Ryan for the first time. It got brilliant reception, and the result was further colloboration. Motorpsycho did a strong comeback last year with "Black Hole/Blank Canvas" - the first without Håkon Gebhardt who left in 2005.

This summer they're booked at the following Festivals:

Quartfestivalen July 4, Dour (Belgia) July 14, Melt (Tyskland) July 15, Månefestivalen July 27-29 og Storåsfestivalen July 26-28.

A guy from the MP Facebook-group attended the show.

A couple of things he remembered:

- Kenneth Kapstad did a fantastic job
- Apparently they covered the Rush-song "YYZ"
- Snah played like a god

Some stuff from the avis2 article:

- The show started way before all the spectators were inside the venue
(the queue outside was several hundred meters long)
- Audience: 500-600
- They started off in high energy, and never stopped. Nice mix of jazz-rock
and exciting.

Yeah, or did anybody who attended the concert grab some sort of a setlist?
Or was the whole concert more a jamsession with spontaneous arrangements?

Oh yes awesome. YYZ!

Can't hardly believe it. Then again, the boys know and digest everything that's ever had any musical meaning. And this by not being afraid of "cheesyness". Damn would have loved to see this.
