OT: Guitarists - Show me your gear, and i'll show you mine

Thought i'd open a little trade/discussion/comment topic regarding guitar effects.
Here you can share your knowledge about effect combos, neat pedals or whatever comes to mind about guitar gear!

Personally, i'm in the process of building a guitar rig. I've purchased some rather neat pedals up to now, but i'm keen on getting my hands on some more, as i'm building a studio in an old family house out on the norwegian countryside, with the intention of spending 2-3 months out there recording an album + some demos for other projects early next year. So if you've got some tips about what pedals to get, i'll be "all ears"

Not to sound like a copycat or anything, but i'm quite fond of Snah's sound. Especially when it comes to the more trippy/improv kinda stuff. Would be nice to get some opinions regarding effect combos to make a similar sound (Like that twisted octaveish delayed fuzz sound he uses on "The Weel" at the Øya festival last year - check it out)

BOSS CE-3 Chorus (Rather limited. Produces a warm chorus, but it's mono - thinking of replacing it with a LINE 6 Space Chorus)
BOSS OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion (Just got it - havent't checked it out that much)
BOSS OD-2 Turbo Overdrive (Same with this one. Sounds promising tho.)
BOSS RE-20 Space Echo (Simply wonderful!!)
BOSS CE-20 Chorus Ensemble (Another great addon - a really nice chorus pedal)
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff (Indeed)
LINE 6 Dr. Distorto (Tonecore pedal - Nice dist. with Noise gate and Feedback generator)
LINE 6 Verbzilla (Tonecore pedal - Wonderful reverb with many different modes plus trail switch)
LINE 6 Echo Park (A nice delay pedal with many neat features incl. tape echo simulation)
LINE 6 Tap Tremolo (All you need in a tremolo pedal - Great)
Danelectro Fab Flanger (A nice and cheap however limited flanger - gonna be replaced by a LINE 6 Liqua-Flange)
Jim Dunloop Crybaby (You know this classic - wonderful Wah Wah pedal)
Rocktron Short timer Digital Delay (Mono Delay pedal which is kind of a drag, but it's neat for that 60's Beach Boys type delay)
LINE 6 FM4 Filter Modulator (A pedal on acid - GREAT!)
ZOOM BFX 707 Bass Effects Processor (Not used for bass, but with Theremin for neat effects in the prog rock band i'm playing in - Metrognom)

Hi there Golden Blissard Demon,

you have quite a lot up there. I play in a band (www.myspace.com/roosterrampage) and don't use that much pedals. I use:

- MXR Distortion + (very nice distortion/overdrive, gives my sound that creamy touch)
- Jim Dunlop Crybaby (very very nice)
- Morley 70s volume/fuzz/wah (great unique fuzz, couldn't do without this one)
- Korg DT 10 stage tuner (works great, couldn't do without it on stage)

And that's about it. I have a small Marshall JTM 30 amp. I sold my Fender Twin Reverb because i needed the money and the Twin Reverb didn't work well. I am now looking for a new amp, and probably a phaser.

Marty: What kind of music do you play?

Had to check out that Digitech GSP 2101, and i found that it's a rack mount. Do you control it with some kind of pedal board, or just skip amongst the presets? Been using some Zoom boards and such with pre-programmed presets, and found them neat in sound, but one hell of a drag to use realtime, because of sound skipping + the fact that you have to scroll through the presets. The reason i'm asking is that i found it sold on ebay for a pretty decent price (i think).

Also ppl; Does any of you know what kind of distortion/overdrive Snah uses? I listened to that Folken, stavanger gig from 98, and found that it contains the coolest version of Hogwash i ever heard live (imho). Partly because of some killer cool distortion from snah (espechially towards the end - a really screamy sound). Would have been neat to have that in the rig.

@ The Golden Blissard Demon : I play in three bands, three different genres (somewhat). I play in a posthardcore-band (Innerlogic), an indiepop-band (Girls On Top) and a acoustic/eletronic/symphonic/psychewdelic-band (Thoughts Create The World).

The Digitech GSP 2101 is a fine piece of equipment but I hardly use all the 200 + effects and only need four or five presets for my stuff (one clean, one distorted, one clean with a little reverb/delay, one extra distorted being the lead sound, and one flanged). It really sounds great though, being a tube preamp.

I control it with a standard MIDI-controller/floorboard. Right now it's a Behringer, the first one was a digitech floorboard which was much smaller but I killed it.

But the main of my guitar sound is made by my 50/50 Mesa amp. I bought it ten years ago and it never failed me once.

Besides all the guitar stuff I mentioned above I own a little studio with my TCTW friends, built around a Tascam DM 24 digital console, a MOTU 2408 audio interface going into a Dual Core 3,6 Ghz 2 GB RAM Power PC. In our studio we use a Fender Amercan Strat from a friend of ours, a Gibson Les Paul, an acoustic Martin (!), an acoustic Ibanez, a big Hammond Organ, a Yamama S2000 synth, a Korg MS2000, AKG and Shure mics and a lot of cables. Thanks, mate. The Fender VI is some thing, though... It can be used for unique melodies and sounds, especially when you combine it's bassy notes with the whammy bar and maybe some space echo and distortion. But I can't really produce bassy power chords in the lowest registers like I intended at first. Too flabby and the low E-string is too fat imo for the neck's size. There's a 6-string bass by Danelectro, maybe it works better. The Fender's sound is great, you have 3 pickups with corresponding switches to fiddle with.

I got the Taurus by mere coincidence. I phoned some guy who published an ad for his RE-201. But he already sold it, so instead of crying and putting the phone down I asked him if he may have a Taurus (why not? since he used to have a space echo... made perfect sense at that moment). He had. And didn't use it anymore (rather some ugly 90ties yamahas and whatnot) but neither didn't put an ad out. Sheer luck.
Few weeks later I also got the Space Echo from a circus musician.

My gear always revolved more around quantity than quality, so I've got nothing fancy round here. Not even effect pedals. I had a simple one but that's broken now.

About quantity vs quality: I once traded my MusicMan Sabre bass for 2 lesser basses. Because 2 is more than 1, right? RIGHT? Ts... stupidest thing ever.
On guitars and amps, I realized it's better to save up for the real thing. It's just more fun. But here's a tip: Danelectro Guitars are way way way better than their price tags suggest. Weird. Very fine and unique sounding guitars.

Crappy FX can be nice sometimes.

As for vsti linkage - just try torrentz.com - i've used this site for the most used synths (Like the MOOG, MINIMOOG, ARP 2600 etc). If you can't find what you're looking for there, i suggest you dust off that old DC++ client of yours, and start browsing some hubs. That's what i did back in the day, and now i got like 200+ vst synths (everything from small silly ones, to grand ones like Zero-G Morphology, REFX NEXUS etc)

@Quality & Quantity: Yep I realized that too. Because of that, I mainly use the Epiphone guitar now, which is quite good (although the Strat has a nice feeling to it, too - very unpolished punky sound coming out of that thing). The bass is suboptimal but we're not that much of a bass band, we dont even have a bassist.

I'm also not fond of the damp sound from my tom toms, a replacement drum kit would be a good idea. Well..
