Ok, so, songs that reference bands:

Whip That Ghost (LTEC) has a sort of Allman Brothers feel to it (up for debate, sure), the title sounds like Whipping Post (Allman brothers tune).

Starmelt/Lovelight (AADAP) is two-part. Lovelight is a Grateful Dead song, and the line in the song "Sound sun pleasure rules the world" is a reference to Sun Ra. So is the album title. Actually its shamelessly stolen, more or less grinning smiley

Hey Jane (TU), is of course their Hey-song (Hey Joe, Hey Jude etc.), referencing Hendrix and The Beatles etc.

Any other obscure references?

I've read somewhere that Whip that Ghost is a tribute to/inspired by Allman brothers' Jessica... the structure of the song and the melody is very similar allthough the bass riff & the title clearly points to Whipping Post.

The list is growing with Must Haves!
Altough I already own a lot of the albums mentioned, it's good to see wich albums I still have to buy!
I like this thread. thumbs up
Great to see Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band on the list, Trout Mask is his most influencial album allthough I personaly prefer Lick My Decals Off.
