Maybe I'll have a go at Stained Glass and at something else with the band.

Allright, this is fun. I'd like to contribute something acoustic, like Feel or Bedroom Eyes.

I'd like to contribute on this, but my musical skills are perhaps too low for Motorpsycho songs. So I'd rather do some artwork.

Ah forget about skills (I do smiling smiley ). Anyone should do something who feels like doing something. We'd do this just for us.

This also brings that other thing up: someone mentioned Stickman and releasing and stuff, well errm hold your horses there. This is a serious copyright thing. That's why I proposed simply burning a CD by the first person and multiply it by sending it from one member to the next one as a low key fan freebie. No distribution, no selling, no dimeadozen, no nothing of this sort.

i agree with supernaut!

What about selling the cd amongst the community, and donating the money to the band + 3 copies of the cd. Sort of a 20 year payback present as a thank you for all the wonderful music they've created for us. That could have been cool.

Sounds kinda weird to me. I mean I bought records and cd's and cd's of records I already bought the vinyl version of and dvd's and shirts, shorties and long sleeves, and bags and 7inches and hence donated bazillions already to these scoundrels!

Dunno, my point is still why should there be any money involved in the first place?

I understand. I just thought it'd be a nice gift from us to them you know! But hey, i agree with you. There doesen't need to be any money involved....

I disagree. I think the quality of the songs should be considered before we decide what to do with them.
Lots of people have their own recording equipment these days, and if we get 15 great contributions they probably deserve a descent release...

I've covered feel before. Could maybe re-record it for this.
Or I could do some other song.

I disagree. For various reasons:

- The quality of the performances and recordings shouldn't matter. I think it's more interesting to let and hear all psychonauts freak out than try to achieve decent performances by the book. Having a full-on band take on Feedtime next to a crappy recording of someone tinkering with 30/30 on his toypiano, is what would make this really special.

- Who decides what deserves a decent release? By what criteria?

- IF we get 15 great contributions "deserving" a "proper" release, then it's not in our hands anymore anyway. That'll be the call of the Band & the Stickman.

Let's not lose the aimless fun in this.

Aimless fun...?

We're talking about a tribute album here. Some aim there must be, imho. I'm afraid i don't share your views regarding this tribute being a "playground" for everyone wanting to strum some chords just for the hell of it. I think that if people wanna join, then they should do their best! Or else the magic which can be this album will get lost in the heaps of sub par preformances.

Common, Aimless fun! yes! I don't think fun is necessary contradictory to doing one's best!
I do some recording myself (and i am considering contributing something...), and if I am going to do a cover, I do it because making a song and recording is: a fun thing to do! (...and I hope to learn from it ... and I hope other people like the result)
I'll do my best, and maybe the result will be weird, funny, a bit strange, all right, a failure, I dont know...
but 'aimless fun' is definitely my main reason for making music...
...and if it's hifi-recordings or crappy mobile phone recordings or whatever... does that really matter? I don't think so.
I like diversity <dont we all as MP fans?>.

Well i've got an aim! To make the best remix/version/whatever of the tune i've chosen. But then again i had the idea of presenting the album to the band, and so i had hoped that we could put together one hell of a cd. But luckily i'm not the one deciding how we should go along here. So i'll simply make my tune, and leave it at that.. And when the time comes, i guess we'll figure out how to do this.

hmm...although I am definitly one of those who wouldn't like his cover to be released, I would like to suggest something that might benefit to the discussion going on in this thread; why not asking these folks that were involved in the making of the tribute album self-indulgence mono-minds? Maybe they would share what they had in mind or what kind of arguments they had.

Not a bad idea at all!

Dear friend. In my opinion music doesn't have to do anything with skills (aka knowing how to play every scale imaginable, as fast as possible). You can very well put your heart into strumming some simple chords on your scruffy acoustic guitar and the biggest MP fanatic might miss the change from a to d about a hundred times, but does that make his contribution less worthy than the band recording including choir, string arrangements and ten-minute guitarsolo? I don't think so. I trust our fellow psychonauts and I'm pretty sure that everyone is gonna give their best, even if the final results may differ a great deal, be it because of better or worse equipment or musical abilities (all hail the great throne of Dragonforce!). I'm convinced that having fun and giving one's best are two things that are very well to combine! Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Ok this came out all wrong. I know ppl will do their best. What i mean is that i agree with The Totenoid about selecting the best contributions for the album. Call me cruel, but a bunch of "crappy" 2nd rate songs on the album wouldn't be cool. Becides....eventhough making music is fun and all, i hope that the ones willing to participate in this project take it as seriously as i intend to...

But again....it's not up to me, so in the end we'll just see what comes...
