Hey did I call for crappy contributions? You got me all wrong dear Goldenblissard.

I'm with b-mineur and happyknappy there. I wrote "aimless fun" because some folks talked about a proper release and I thought I made clear what problems I see there. This shouldn't fail just because it might not get released. I don't care about the production values, but I do about the quality of performance and heart. This doesn't rule out the playground either. Someone wanted to do something on his kids' piano. YES PLEASE! Jeeez, since when do Motorpsycho and experimenting and variety and humour and CRAPPY homerecording not go together? Did I miss something?

This debate is totally unappropriate. We haven't heard any single note by anyone yet. There goes my enthusiasm. sad smiley

And in the end, who's to say what's crappy and subpar anyway?

@ Supernaut: I guess it was this sentence i had a problem with:

"Ah forget about skills (I do). Anyone should do something who feels like doing something. We'd do this just for us"

As i said before, my post came out all wrong. What i tried to get across (but failed to do) was that i think it's a good idea to rate the things contributed in order to get the best possible result in the end. That does not mean that "casio based" tunes are disregarded. As long as its a good tune in the end. But that's just my views on the subject. I guess it all boils down to my own ambitions regarding music in general. Wanting to put out the best possible result has always been a driving force for me. And i guess it rubbed on to my idea of what this album should be. A collection of tributes mirroring the high quality music MP has given us.

But for the third time; It's not my call. I'm just stating my views on this. So Supernaut; Don't loose your inspiration and enthusiasm just because we don't see eye to eye on this. That would be a great loss for both the album and for me personally. Let's just lay this dead for now, and start writing some nifty tunes.

Well, there's plenty of 2nd rate shit on "vol. 1", but so what? It's a double vinyl with a bonus 7", how cool is that?! smiling smiley

Re: The New Motorpsycho Tribute Album

Actually, I meant bonus 10". Even better.
Re: The New Motorpsycho Tribute Album

Well there's obviously a majority of ppl thinking quantity before quality, which is cool and all in an including sort of way. It just wasn't what i had in mind. So i'll shut up now. I mean, i think my views are valid, but i won't let them ruin this project. So let's bury the hatchet and focus on the music instead. I'll start! smiling smiley

Hey, I'm with you Golden.
I think nerd had i good piont, we should ask Vegard and the others at G35 how they did it with Self-Indulgent Monominds.
IF we get enough good contributions (still don't know how to decide what's good and what's not), I think we should release it in some way.
Also, I guess a lot of people and bands not reading this forum as frequent as some of us, would be interested.

Good point. And contacting Vegard is a good idea, Andreas. You'll do that, then. smiling smiley

That's out of context. I meant nobody should hinder himself because of a lack of skill. This is also why I added "I do" in parentheses, 'cos I don't know yet what I'll be able to come up with, but I hope I can propose something. And this is how I wanted to motivate evryone. There's still not that much material around yet.

And for the "We'd do this just for us": I talked about the legal side of it all. Though I see myself as a totally dead serious musician, too, a release is not my goal. My main curiosity goes for the whacky and original stuff people would come up with, not in neatly produced cover versions by the book "deserving" an official release. Yes I do see this as a psychonauts' playground. This has nothing to do with quantity over quality. I don't think in these terms. A possibility would be a double CD, featuring "proper" renditions and then the more whacky stuff can be put on the second CD. smiling smiley But hey, this all can be axed by the folks who got the call in this, so there we are again at my very first proposal.

ah yawn, sorry for ramblin' again.

Oh by the way, they try to put up someting similar over in a Led Zeppelin forum. But the idea there is to really work together. Which means someone records the drums, probably in Cubase, sends those files to a bassist, then to the singer and so on.

This would be nice here, too. Even if only for a couple of songs maybe.
Re: The New Motorpsycho Tribute Album

Well my good man. If we were to do something similar, i would gladly propose a co-op between me and you. When it comes to TGC, i'm on my way, but if you like, we could maybe take a crack at another song. I've used this working method in other projects, and it has worked out just fine. Think about it

As for our little discussion, i really like your idea about making a double cd, with whacky stuff on one. and "proper" things on the other. Sounds really good!

Oh such a beauty! Congrats!!

Well if you give me some time, i'll see what i can do about TGC. I'm on vacation visiting my father right now, but when i get home, i'll see about sending you a raw copy of what i've done so far. It could be fun though to do another song too. I've also wanted to make a liveish version of Bonny Lee (I mean a long version with a lot of psychedelic guitar stuff). Could that be something?

hi there
just listened to the few songs of the first tribute album and wondering if it was possible to get a hand on it? even in digital format... would love to listen to this smiling smiling smiley

as for this one, maybe i'll have a go at something really easy... feel maybe tongue sticking out smiley i don't know yet, so don't count on me, i have yet to see how i work this out (especially with my extremely crappy voice and hardly existant singing ability (is this correct english? ah, don't give a damn...)). but i will definitely try to do something (accent on try).

@ supernaut: what guitar is this? didn't i see bent use it somewhere? tongue sticking out smiley (i could be wrong, though...) at any rate... niiice!

cheshirepenguin: The original Self-Indulgent Mono Minds tribue record was originally released on 35g Records on vinyl only.
Limited edition of course. Then some time later, it was released on cd by Supermodern Records.

If you have some spare change, it's available for sale here: MP

It's a Danelectro '59 12-string. I'm quite sure Bent uses it on Vortex Surfer and Un Chien. smiling smiley

@ Supernaut: How much did you pay for it? I'm seriously thinking of purchasing one of those myself. By the way....i'm going back home tomorrow, so in a couple of days i thought we could start figuring out how to approach this co-op. It's gonna be great! So ....Bonny Lee then? And perhaps you wanna take the first step? What program are you using for your productions?

Hey guys. If you want some inspiration for yr covers, go here:

http://35grecords.fupp.net/mptrib.html

5 tracks from Self-Indulgent Mono Minds available for download.
Re: The New Motorpsycho Tribute Album

@goldendemon

I paid about 500 euros. Bought it in Switzerland, you might get it at a better price in some other europe country. www.thomann.de maybe.

Bonny Lee or TGC or whatever, just something with a beat I'd like to do. Because I think I'll have a go at something rather moody & spacey myself.
I could do it on Cubase, but at home I have Ableton Live which I'm more familiar with. Hm... must check if one programme's files would work on the other programme.

For the first step, well I always like to start with the beat for structure and timing, so I'd have to program a beat then (eeeeew....) unless I find a drummer. You don't have one?
