Giftland will always be special to me because it was my first MP favorite song when I discovered Timothy.

Now in 2009, there are 2 or 3 MP songs that I rate higher. But still one of my all-time favs.

Ah, Timothy, a double without any one weak song. Giftland isn't my fave though, I'd go for the other lengthy ones and then Kill Some Day or Watersound...

Sometimes I can' take this album. It oozes with so much heart and soul, it hurts. My all time dearest album since and forever I guess.

Had a little giftland on repeat bonaza going on, and listening on it on headphones the piano was really getting annoying. sort of like a over the top bryan adams slash chicago ballad piano thing going on there.

But anyways; still one of my favorite MP songs.

Inspired by this thread, I listened to Timothys Monster yesterday and I think picking out Giftland is pretty random. You could've chosen any other song off this album and declare it the best and favourite song of all time, it would work on nearly all tracks.

it is a great album; still in heavy rotation after all these years. however, i gotta say i actually prefer the 1cd version over the 2cd version. would have been awesome to have a general release for that that 1cd version, and then use an EP to release the material that is only on the 2cd version.

now why do you wanna do that, 16 yrs after it's original release...???

btw, timothys was released as a 1 cd-version, meant for the australian market. it was available trough stickman at some point. can't remember what songs got kicked, but i'm sure there were songs on it also from the 2nd cd of the original release.

without sungravy, a shame! I think the 2cd-version is perfect as it is: Cd1: perfect pop-rock-shorties with beautiful harmonies and Cd2: 4 totally different (but longer) songs, which would destroy "the flow" if they would have been on disc one...

at ingmarwa: the one-cd version was the one i knew first because it was for rent in the music-library in Utrecht. And i taped it to cassette. The shorter version of the Wheel is great.
There is also a small difference in Leave it like that. Sort of a one-bar shorter version. Quite strange..

Is the shorter "Leave it like that" the same version as on the "Wearing yr smell/Psychobabble"-EP?
And in what way is "The Wheel" edited? Hopefully no fade-out?
Re: giftland

eeeew, this has to be listened to on vinyl anyway.

I'm not quite sure, I think in The Wheel the whole middle part is edited. Intro build up -> fat bass solo part -> loud but already final part -> fade out like on long version.

But I've only heard it once or twice, it was available in Europe, too.

edit: oops, harry can check. smiling smiley

Yeah, that's pretty much it. It's the same as the 2cd version for the first 6mins, and then it jumps to the 'loud but already final' part, cutting out everything in between. Also, Leave it Like That is the edit (same version as on Promotor 1 and Wearin' Yr SMell EP) and On my Pillow has the guitar solo that appears at about 3.00 cut. All other songs are the same version as on the 2cd.

There may be a slight difference in sound between the 2 cds. Somehow the drums a bass appear to sound a little but better on the 1cd. It's only marginally, and I wouldn't know a good reason for it. But that's why I like the 1cd better.
