i've been listening quite a lot to Yes lately.

really!

i know... lol... i just don't care about genres and coolness and do's and don'ts. i only really have issues with steve howe's guitar playing and his sound. but where there's shade there's always light. in Yes' case it's the Relayer album. The Gates of Delirium is pure frenzy with far out riffs and madness. To Be Over has some nice soothing melodies i really enjoy. Heart of the Sunrise from Fragile a riff to die for. and when we go big then we go big with the Tales from Topographic Oceans album: 4 songs, each about 20 minutes. really dont know why i'm attracted to this stuff these days. hm...

I don't feel ashamed. ^^

As I said, I don't care neither about genres nor about "coolness". I listen to Yes and to the Melvins and Jesus Lizard any day.
There's the prog Spinal Tap thing about them due to silly dresses, but lots of other 70ties rock bands are much more guilty of self indulgent noodling over boring blues rock chords. Yes pushed the genre, dix points to them for that. Douze points go to King Crimson for being less esoteric. smiling smiley

Melvins IS cool. You've got to listen to the early periods of the japanese band Boris as well, which have their name from a Melvins tune.

Boris's new album is good.

Yeah, it's good - also really nice to hear those tunes live btw smiling smiley Saw them playing here in Bergen in Februrary. But Smile won't ever be as good as Amplifier Worship and Feedbacker! Without doubt the best Boris records.

Indeed, I saw them in Brussels at the Ancienne Belgique (great venue!) 10 days ago... Super!
Unfortenately Dulli got ill after 45 min of show, he was driven by ambulance to the nearest hospital, the poor guy... They had to cancel in Rotterdam I heard...
Lanegan finished in Brussels with a few songs from "Bubblegum". In total 1 hour on stage, but what a show.
They promised to be back in Belgium and the Netherlands this summer (Pukkelpop and Lowlands??) to make up for Dulli's hospitalisation... Can't wait!

Something totally different: I got dragged to a The Go! Team concert and what fun it was! 6 people on stage with lots of instrument swapping, common setup with 2 drums though, girl and boy, then add brass samples and harmonica and vibraphone and recorder and more instrument swapping, almost everyone played almost everything drenched in lots of noisy guitar freakouts. good fun.
