landside
flick of the wrist (!)

upstairs / downstairs>
hogwash including halleluhwah (can) >

encore1 :
in a silent way(!!!) ( miles davis )
in/out (grand funk railroad)

encore2 :

i think they played flick of the wrist the first time since 2002, but I'm not sure.
thanks for seattle psychonaut jeff that he told that in a silent way is a miles davis cover, I didn't know it .
they played it the first time ever.

i don't stoped the time but I think it was ~ 2'45
highlights:
flick of the wrist ( of course)
the alchemyst was for me the best version that I've heard so far.
hogwash was very very long and fuckin brillant, the intro, the intro!
in a silent way

I'm very happy now .
hopefuly I'll get the soundboard recording in a few weeks.

superstooka: They played Flick Of The Wrist on the 2006 autumn tour with Jacco.
However it's the first time they play it with mr. Kapstad.

Setlist looks really cool.

Don't know exactly, but the Forum wasn't packed. They still had tickets at the entrance, and in front of the stage you could comfortably stand and turn around without touching your neighbour. No idea why...

A friend of mine who went to the Dusseldorf show said: They did Blues-Rock. So I was kinda expecting something a little different than it actually was. The setlists are more or less the same, so is it possible that the Band's mood was different in Dusseldorf than in Bielefeld? Or maybe the whole atmosphere in the venue? Anyone who saw both shows?

Kenneth got really into it by now, you could tell last night that he's become a complete psychonaut. The new stuff works even better than in spring to me but I'm just as happy to see some old hits returning. Flick of the wrist and Step inside were bloody awesome!

Now what about that range of covers: Grand Funk Railroad, Can and Miles Davis? In one show??

That's MP in a nutshell, isn't it? Heavy powertriofunk-ish kraut-prog-jazz.

Man I wish I could've been there. Recording soon?

i agree that show was mindblowing once again...
to me they were more on fire then i d`dorf and the jamming parts were excellent....
the sound was alsp very good for that small area and it was perfect for dirty distortions.
they played great encores and it was my first time i heard vortex surfer life (yes really lol)
amazing was the snah hospital machine sound before the rockin part (about the pain)
i screamed with bent as loud as i could and it felt once again like evryone also screamed with...

very nice...
its gonna be a long week till amsterdam... if i had more money i would see more....

my highlights were "flick"!!!!, "step", "loneliness", "alchemyst", "hog" and "*1"....
what versions were "blind", "land", and "updown"? somehow i didn´t like them that much....but still great anyway...
although i love them on record.

Absolutely amazing concert, fabulous jams... I had the impression they really enjoyed playing at the Forum again.

@superstooka: soundboard recording sounds great, would be a fine opportunity to listen once again to the complex jamming parts! Do you know where to get it?

For me the gig was far beyond everything! Best concert i ever saw! Snah and Bent said something about playing jams and very long songs in some interviews. That you somehow reach a higher state of consciousness. It sounded kinda like its their personal way to enlightment. Well, i´m afraid i´m stating the obvious, becaus thats what pschedelic means, but i think they had some of these moments at this concert. And i had a lot of these moments, too. Very psychedelic expierence that was, to say it in the right terms! Perhaps Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! should be added.
The Miles Davis jam was totally spaced out. Very good singing by Bent and Snah and the crowd. Perfect sound in every part. very clear and open and fucking loud! very good visuals. Less images more abstract and light/rythm based. very distinct playing especially by snah. He really is God! And Kenneth is the devil himself! He puts fills in the fills! and syncopes everywhere! And what a bass sound! That wasn´t a wall. It was a universe!
When they went off into the jams i always thought: Thats it: The highest point, the climax. They can´t get bigger, louder, harder, better but they mostly always did until i just could jump aroung and scream and smile from one ear to the other or just stand with my arms raised to praise my new gods. winking smiley
I always thought that you can do beautiful mind expanding things with art and especially with music, but this concert was more than i ever expected.
What i don´t understand is how one can stand still and doesn´t move nor sing while standing two meters in front of the stage where this mindblowing music happens. There should be a little adittion to the laws of visiting a MP gig. that the ones who want to dance and sing are standing in the front and the one who just wanna stand arround and behave like they´re visiting a lecture for brain surgery stand behind them or the other way round. And the bar is for the catters. I always feel bad for dancing and jumping and singing, when the people arround me do nothing.
Wow, that post got a bit long. sorry, for getting a bit off topic here, but it somehow catched me.
Can´t wait for the recording and the next gig!

Sail on

Very nice and enthusiastic review Phil! However I do not agree with you on the "jump and dance around" notion. I am a hard core Psychonaut and MP is my all time favourite band. When attending MP gigs I never jump around and dance. I need all my focus on the music and the visual, especially the elaborate jam parts. I do not find jumping around compatible with being able to concentrate fully on the bands performance. That is at least my personal opinion.

cheers
Gustav

I second that Gusse! The two most annoying things when trying to fully sink in to the music, is people dancing and people singing/talking. Dancing is probably great on a Britney Spears concert or a disco winking smiley
