Motorpsycho: Let Them Eat Cake

Review of Let Them Eat Cake taken from the
Italian stoner rock e-zine
STONED GODS, February 2000.
English. Found at the stoned gods-site.

A new album from the planet Motorpsycho, and when i say new, I mean NEW!!! This because this album is really a strange thing also for who know the band since their earlier releases. In fact this is the more pop-psych oriented product of this indefinable band, with a lot of luxurious arrangements, horns and strings, that give to Let Them Eat Cake a very original and loving aspect.
The band has worked a lot on the melodies in songs like Big Surprise, Stained Glass or Upstairs And Downstairs that, under all the arrangements, has got the Motorpsychedelic Ballads trademark. In Whip That Ghost is wandering the ghost of the Allman Brothers for a long instrumental songs with a beating rhythm section and a guitar that remember the sounds of historical albums as Eat A Peach (Allman Brothers, early seventies).
The psychedelic atmospheres are always present, but are lighter than in the past, leaving more space to good melodies and new ideas: if you like only strong stoner bands, this album can change your point of view, but you are always flowing in the psychedelic sea...
