Vorrei sbilanciarmi, ragazzi - é il mio mestiere o no, dopotutto? Credo che i Motorpsycho (da non confondere con gli omonimi americani) siano uno dei gruppi più incredibili che si possa attualmente trovare sotto l'albero del grunge. Al loro confronto mezza Sub Pop sparisce come per incanto.

Possibile? Vi domanderete increduli. Bè, si é possibile e lo capirete quando ascolterete Soothe, il nuovo mini album di questi scatenatissimi grungers norvegesi esorditi già qualche mese fa con uno stupendo lp, Lobotomizer, che tra l'altro fu una delle più entusiastiche recensioni del numero uno della nostra.

Evidentemente le vergini lande preartiche riescono ad esprimere quello che le terre anglo-americane, abbondantemente sfruttate ormai, danno sempre più di rado: gruppi con inventiva.

Già accennammo ad un discorso del genere con i Boghandle, ma qui siamo ben oltre il semplice gradimento, vale a dire in presenza di una vera e propria folgorazione. Era da tempo che non ascoltavo musica così "elaborata nel rumore", provando le tipiche sensazioni di quando ci si trova di fronte a qualcosa di davvero speciale: sorpresa, eccitazione, entusiasmo.

Vi rimando in sede di recensione per il commento sul nuovo lavoro dei Motorpsycho. Non é stato facile rintracciare il gruppo. Ma, grazie alla collaborazione della manager Cecil, siamo, sia pur brevemente, riusciti a metterci in contatto con Snah, il chitarrista.

R: Ci avete lasciati senza fiato, con questo Soothe!
S: Sono contento che ti sia piaciuto. So che non é di facile reperibilità, ma tra qualche mese dovrebbe uscire il primo cd dei Motorpsycho, comprendente sia Lobotomizer sia Soothe. Sai, non ci piace molto il formato cd, preferiamo il vinile, ma come dice quella tipa in Spinal Tap: I soldi parlano e le cazzate camminano.

R: Siete sempre stati tre nel gruppo?
S: Sì, fin dall'inizio. Come avrai notato, rispetto a Lobotomizer, se n'è andato Killer, il nostro batterista, prontamente sostituito da Gebhardt.

R: Che cosa é successo dall'uscita di Lobotomizer in poi? S: Molte cose. Intanto é uscito Soothe, un lavoro in cui crediamo molto. È certamente un passo in avanti rispetto a Lobotomizer, un gradino più alto sulla scala per diventare più popolari dei Nirvana! Poi abbaimo fatto un tour della Norvegia che ha avuto molto successo. Ormai ci conoscono tutti, è diventato un paese troppo piccolo per noi. Abbiamo fatto anche un tour in Danimarca. Poi abbiamo registrato un mportante show alla televisione nazionale norvegese (NRK) e Lobotomizer é stato votato miglior album del 1991 dal readers poll del magazine norvegese Puls's. A ottobre uscirà anche un nostro nuovo sette pollici.

R: Avete pubblicato altro materiale? S: Guarda, é uscita una compilaion (distribuita in Germania e Svizzera da DDR) dove compariamo. Purtroppo non mi ricordo bene come si chiama.

R: Avete almeno in programma un tour europeo?
S: No, per il momento, ma se conosci un agenzia fidata, non esitare a farcelo sapere.

I would lose my balance, guys - after all it's my job, isn't it? I believe that Motorpsycho (not to be confused with the eponymous American band) are one of the most incredible bands that you could find under the grunge tree today. Compared to them, half of Sub Pop disappears as if by magic.

Possible? You're asking yourselves, incredulous. Well, yes, it's possible and you will understand that when you listen to Soothe, the new mini album by these unchained Norwegian grungers who made their debut some months ago with a wonderful mini album, Lobotomizer, which incidentally earned one of the most enthusiastic reviews in the first number of our magazine.

Clearly, the virgin sub-arctic expanses are able to express what the Anglo-Americans lands, abundantly mined up until now, give in an ever-shrinking degree: bands with imagination.

We already mentioned this story referring to Boghandle, but here we are referring to a simple pleasure, meaning that we have been struck by lightning. I have not heard music so "wrapped up in noise", feeling the typical sensations when you're facing something really special: surprise, excitement, enthusiasm.

I refer to the review about Motorpsycho's new release in the reviews' section. It was not easy to find the band. But with the help of their manager Cecil we briefly got in touch with guitarist Snah.

Rumore: You have taken away our breath with Soothe!
Snah: I'm happy that you liked it. I know that it's not easy to find bt in a few months the first Motorpsycho cd will be out containing both Lobotomizer and Soothe. You know we don't like CDs so much, we still prefer the vinyl, but like that fellow in Spinal Tap says: Money talks and bullshit walks ...

R: Has the band always been a three piece?
S: Yes, since the beginning. As you may have noticed, in comparison with Lobotomizer, our drummer Killer left, and has already been replaced by Gebhardt.

R: What's happened since the release of Lobotomizer?
S: Many things. In the meantime we released Soothe, a work we really believe in. It's definitely a step forward compared to Lobotomizer, going up a step on the stairway to become more famous than Nirvana! Then we did a successful tour in Norway. Now everybody knows us, it has become a small country for us. We toured Denmark, too. Then we recorded for a top show on the national Norwegian television (NRK) and Lobotomizer was voted best album in the Norwegian magazine Puls's readers poll. In October a new 7' inch too will be released.

R: Did you release any other material?
S: We're featured on a compilation (distributed by DDR in Germany and Switzerland). Unfortunately I don't remember the title.

R: Are you at least planning to tour Europe?
S: No. Not the moment, but if you know a good agency, don't hesitate contacting us!
