Motorpsycho lived up to their reputation as Norway's loudest band in concert yet again when they played at the small and intimate student union venue, Folken, in Stavanger. Opening with their best tracks off "It's A Love Cult", the audience was transformed from a crowd of young hipsters to a pulsing mass of sweating bodies hypnotised by the pure energy of Snah's riffing and vocals, Gebhardt's awesome drumming and Bent's flowing bass fingering. They couldn't have picked any better songs to start with - Ûberwagner was loud and free, Serpentine brought the audience down a notch and then pushed forwards again when Gebhardt started up on his kit. The songs ended quickly and after that massive explosion of beautiful noise, everyone needed a break.

With a lengthy but wonderful interlude of "motorpsychedelia" and random noise from amp feedback (pretty cool) one of the best songs of the night, STG brought us back into musical frenzy again with a fast tempo. After that the night seemed like a big blur with musical enjoyment taken on another level (no we weren't on drugs) beyond anything I've ever seen live before.

After having played through material from various Motorpsycho releases through the years and other rarities (including Snah on a mandolin and Gebhardt playing a first-time live track off the Serpentine EP on acoustic guitar) the band were "through". Of course they came back on, as usual facing a hail of applause, whistling and screaming ("Snah, Snah, Snah..." repeated over and over like some sort of mantra). They finished off with the best one of that night (Nothing To Say). Bent invited everyone to sing the chorus along with him (and we did!) which was just great fun.

Motorpsycho were at their best that night, playing one excellent song after the other. If it wasn't fast and upbeat, it was experimental and progressive - both were excellent. If you want to see one of the greatest Scandinavian live acts, go see Motorpsycho!
