@ Stalem8: Well when it comes to the music press, i really shouldn’t say. I didn’t even know that MP existed in those days, so i don’t know what the verdict was. I was reffering to the comments on our belowed forum. Irt seems ppl really like that album. As for overrated album being hailed by critics, i’d have to go with Phanerothyme. Some magic moments, but too many sub-par songs aswell.
@ Krist: I like Neverland. And i’ve got a tip for you disbelievers: Instead of bashing the song, you should try to view it as a Snah showcase tune. Damn, he’s had many a nice solo on that one live throughout the years.
PS: Composite head is the worst song they’ve put out for many years if you ask me. Gives me nothing but frustration.

Composite Head is too short to dislike. It just wanted to be on that record so bad, poor little thing. Be nice to it. And it has cool lyrics btw.
June 22, 2009 at 14:14 #12225@GBD, I see your point I wasn’t much of a ‘naut myself, so I thought I’d ask.
Why didn’t the Fade to Grey make it on IALC? Lot’s of energy and a good groove, could easily replace Neverland or Serpentine *shudder*.
Composite head is, imo, a fun little song, as Supernaut said, the lyrics are cool.

June 22, 2009 at 14:30 #12226Well i guess it’s ok to disagree :)I think it’s horrible. Always when listening to IALC, i skip that one. It’s just not for me
June 22, 2009 at 14:53 #12227Its sudden fade out just strikes me as odd everytime. Feels kinda butchered, poor thing. Some Snah noodling and a suprising coda wouldn’t have hurt and people surely would like it more.
June 22, 2009 at 16:45 #12228Actually all of the Serpentine B-sides could’ve been on IALC (and raised the quality of it significantly)
Throw out Neverland, What If… and Composhite Head, and throw in Little Ricky Massenburg, SNAFU and Fade To Gray. And already you have a far better album
June 22, 2009 at 18:11 #12229or you burn yrself a CD including them all.
June 22, 2009 at 21:16 #12230@krist: I like Neverland and Composite Head.
Also I’m very fond of what you all call “the pop albums” (well, the definition of pop may be wide, but for me it’s still a long shot from phanerothyme to madonna).. but I also like the other ones.
So…worst album? Lobotomizer. For explanation please see GBDs posting
And overrated? Personally, Trust Us — while most people view it as MPs best, I like it a lot but would rate perhaps 6 or 7 MP albums above it.
btw, stalemate: Serpentine is one of my favourite MP song. Give the lovely soothing tune a chance
@otherdemon: I agree, the Serpentine B-sides would have fitted on Love Cult. I wouldn’t necessarily throw out songs, but still include the B-sides.

Actually this just reminded me of a thread I once started: http://motorpsycho.fix.no/comeonin/oldforums/read.php?1,18714,18714#msg-18714
June 23, 2009 at 01:48 #12231Composite Head is a real ourburst of garagey psycho-pop joyness, that is both real cool and thrilling. I still clong to this excelletn little ditty!
June 23, 2009 at 07:27 #12232@jtr, well, the lyrics are good, the melody is good, and it’s wonderfully complex, a challenging tune really, but… The question is: should Snah have sung it?
On the other hand, I’m afraid that this song might actually be something that might show up at a idol-audition sometime.

June 23, 2009 at 08:19 #12233The worst album definitly Barracuda. While Lobotomizer and Soothe might not be good albums either, I still feel there´s something special to them. I loved them when they came out, but hardly listen to them anymore. It´s the sound of a young, searching band. As for Barracuda, it´s plain boring.
As for overrated, I definitly agree with JTR on Trust Us. I don´t see why so many think it´s their best. Like BHBC, been cut down to a single LP.
The filler, should of course been released like a leftover mini LP or EPs
The Perfect Trust us IMO;
Side A
1. Psychonaut
2. The Ocean In Her Eye
3. Taifun
4. Syddhardtino
Side B:
1. Dolphin
2. Radiance Frequency
4. Hey, Jane
3. Vortex Surfer
As for BHBC, they could have skipped the second disc.
June 23, 2009 at 09:35 #12234Woah some people’s expectations are quite high. If I was in a band that wrote and played BOTH Trust Us and BhBc in their entirety (!), I could die a happy man. 8O
June 23, 2009 at 09:36 #12235Next to Lobotomizer, Barracuda is the one I listen to the least. But it has Hi-Time and especially one of my top ten MP tunes ever, Glow. The latter’s head deep in Shangri-La.
June 23, 2009 at 13:48 #12236@ Elvin: Seriously? Skip the whole of disc 2 on BH/BC? Are there really no songs that you like on there?
June 23, 2009 at 14:04 #12237Quote:Woah some people’s expectations are quite high. If I was in a band that wrote and played BOTH Trust Us and BhBc in their entirety (!), I could die a happy man. [8O]Hey, sometimes less is more, even (or perhaps, espesially) in motorpsycholand.
It not that i think those albums arn´t any good as they are (in fact they are both great) but they could always have been be better. I would definitly rank both albums higher if they cut some of the lesser songs.
That´s my main problem with mp: that they´ve written some of my alltime favorite songs, but are also capable of releasing pure crap (neverland comes to mind)
