That is good to hear, but how was the gig?

April 6, 2025 at 10:12 #44192What a band! It’s so easy to take this band for granted when they’ve just been churning out great albums and even better tours for 35 years nonstop.
Last night was pretty awesome. Unlike in 2023 when this lineup felt a bit sloppy and under-rehearsed, they were a lot tighter tonight
Songs from the new album mostly adapted really well live. A bit surprised they skipped Neotzar. But it was probably for the best since those 20 minutes gave space to some of the classics we got instead. I feel this was probably the most well-balanced setlist of the tour so far.
For those of you near the European cities they’re playing in April/May: MP are still alive and kicking
April 6, 2025 at 11:04 #44193Fantastic show in Oslo last night.
Tight!
Vocals as they were in the 20’ies and tuned as Wiener Sängerknaben.
Olaf Olsen behind the drumkit is now fully integrated to the band, so no worries about that part folks.April 6, 2025 at 11:16 #44194Loud and great! And a good mix of ‘full on rock’ and some great jams!
My notes:
– First highlight was W.C.A. The song made much more sense to me live. Heavier and with a great jam/solo-part.
– Reine and Snah is (still) such a great guitar pairing. Wonderful build up and soloing on Whip that ghost.
– Balthazaar <3
– I can still remember the first Manmower rendition I heard live and it’s been a live favourite ever since. Beautiful version yesterday!
– Twin guitars on Lucifer is a lot of fun live!
– 90s Motorpsycho would be proud of how loud and heavy Mountain is!
– Rest of the main set was (almost) a hit parade, but played with youthful vigor!
– Man I love Gullible! Niiiice, energetic, spaced out jam! Excellent end to a wonderful evening!April 6, 2025 at 11:19 #44195Agree on Olaf! He’s completely within the psychoverse at this point! Great drummer! (For those who haven’t heard Needlepoint yet, check them out!
April 6, 2025 at 11:32 #44196Great show with the boys in great mood.
Btw Olaf has quit needlepoint
April 6, 2025 at 11:42 #44197Aah! Didn’t know! Check out the albums where he’s still in Needlepoint then.
April 6, 2025 at 12:17 #44198My main take from yesterday was how great Olaf was. He’s not Kenneth or Tomas, but he doesn’t need to be. He did great and he’s molded nicely in with the band. Happy to have him onboard.
They had a lot of Snah songs. Usually I am not too fond of his singing but he managed fine all the way up until the final segment after the jam section in Gullible. Sadly, he lost track of everything at that point, and it didn’t sound good at all. I thought Bent sounded really good as well, better than usual.
Gullible as the third encore song was super surprising and very pleasing to me. Great rendition apart from the last lines of vocals.
I am a bit disappointed they skipped Neotzar, and I would much rather have that than some of the shorter tracks. But that’s me. Quick Fix, 577, Psychotzar and Mountain were great. I also enjoyed how funky they had made WCA and how they somehow managed to straighten out Patterns. It’s not as weird but still weird or something like that. I was happy about Elysium, Soon but it sounded a bit off at times.
I haven’t been too much of a fan of the weird solo section in Lucifer, but it made a lot of sense when I saw how Snah and Reine played it together. It was good fun!
Balthazaar was great as expected, so was Three Frightened Monkeys.
The gig was sold out, which is good. I hate the talkative audience where I was standing. Some people are more interested in chatting rather than experiencing what’s happening on stage. Whatever floats your boat I guess, but it’s annoying for the people around you…
April 6, 2025 at 16:42 #44200I enjoyed this, poster has more too.
April 6, 2025 at 21:40 #44206Great to hear everybody’s thoughts.
I am very satisfied, but also missed Neotzar. Great setlist. All the new stuff sounded good, but some guitarparts on Lucifer(last bit), Kill some day, and CMC, was too quiet in the mix. (the sound from the gallery).
Bent’s bass was very good up at the gallery.
Elysium soon was not a highpoint, for me.
The double guitar on Lucifer was great, Baltazar also.Chatty people are annoying, but not a problem where we were.
April 7, 2025 at 11:04 #44208A great night for a band in great shape, but this Oslo gig was not for me. Just so incredible heavy. Really impressive though. They’re heavier and tighter than ever!
Bents vocals were really good. Haven’t heard him sing this good since the 90’s!
INcredible musiscans on stage. Olaf is hitting the drums HARD (also loud in the mix, same with Bents vocals – high a clear in the mix – nice!)
I used to go to 3 shows pr tour. Now I just check in every 3rd tour or so.
