Hehe, sorry if the title offended anyone.
As i'm working with a school assignment, i'm spending a little space for describing what's special about Motorpsycho as opposed to a regular 'ol rockband. If you guys would, your best worded reasons are very welcome!
Thank you
First i think, is the " no fear " approach to their song writting, the fact that they are always looking for new boundaries to be pushed, or fences to be taken down. A vast input of work also, the MP back catalog can be very impressive, daunting and confusing for new comers, but as you unfold it, great things happen ( as it did to me ), great songs are heard. They are a modern day version of the myth surrounding the "deads". With a fan base as rabid as the deadheads. The fact that their concerts are musical marathon too help boasting the mythical aspect of the band. It's very hard to explain really, i can't pinpoint it, but whenever this band is playing, i feel something within me that wanna rock out. As simple as that, as bold as it sounds, they make me wanna rock out, feel good, tune in, turn on, drop out….
They work their asses off to make their music as great as it ever was. I just read this http://www.avclub.com/article/melvins-buzz-osborne-picks-songs-by-bands-that-wer-200741 and it pretty much answers why bands like Motorpsycho are special. And how sad it is that they are because they shouldn't be. This work ethic should be the standard way of doing things.
It's something with the guys and how well they play together, both live and on recordings, that does it for me. Also it seems as through their time as a band, everything has been permitted. Musically, that is.
Interesting. Thanks guys, this is pretty much what I would expect, but it's nice getting someone else's words on it!
Don't tell anyone, but they are really a world class jazz band in disguise.
The concerts are all about impro. Those brilliantly catchy, riffy, heavy songs are just an excuse to get the jams going.
haha that's also been my view on them for a while now.
don't forget: a wicked sense of humour.
(btw why do so very few indie/alternative bands show – or have, even – a sense of humour? one might think humour and indiemusic don't go together)
