Hope so, or extra long encores.
maybe they should do a two set tour. set one – the unicorn, set two – "the old stuff".
February 9, 2012 at 15:38 #21240Listning through it for the first time right now, a mastodon experience so far!

February 9, 2012 at 15:49 #21242So what do ppl think about the album?
I'm loving it ,more and more. At first i had some trouble with the stretch between "Oh, Proteus – A Prayer" – through Oh, Proteus – A Lament". But its growing on me, both musically and as being important for the whole story. Effective in terms of mirroring the dark and troubled mood of the narrator (which i wanna call the death defying unicorn – it fits perfectily when knowing the story), on this part of the journey.
To put it simply; It's freakin' great!! :MPD: (and ståle!)
February 9, 2012 at 16:31 #21243The postman did not have the goods for me today, so I listened through the 3voor12 stream.
Well, I really like this album! But it's not flawless: Some of the interludes are overlong (Doldrums, Flotsam and Sculls In Limbo) and sorta detracts focus imo. And the vocals are extremely weird at times: Probably the first time they've been drenched so much in reverb and other effects, I think. And a bit disappointed that nearly none of the Nidarosdomen/Oslo domkirke stuff made it on here (the B-minor Snah theme, in particular)
But the songs, man oh man! The actual songs and some of the jamming are at an all-time high. The biggest shock of the album was when the band kicked in on Oh, Proteus – A Prayer. There MP sounded almost industrial!
There's no point in listing highlights because all of the songs have something to offer. Like I said earlier, some of the interludes could've been shortened and give place to other riffs/ideas. And there are really no singles on this album (although a song like Mutiny! is kinda catchy on its own). But this is for me yet another counter-reaction against the previous album. Most MP albums are.
And my heart just melted when that sax solo on La Lethe started. Whoever played that sax (three saxplayers appear on here), great job!
It sure requires heavy listening, though. Although I've heard the album in its entirety a few times now, I know I haven't discovered everything yet.
February 9, 2012 at 21:03 #21244The sax must be Kjetil Møster (of Datarock etc), it's great!
February 9, 2012 at 21:31 #21245Wow. I must admit that I lost faith a couple of albums ago, but the first two songs sound good. (listening to the 3voor12 stream)
February 9, 2012 at 22:29 #21246It sounds like they have collaborated with Robert Fripp and Omar whatshisname from Mars Volta, not Ståle, but this is awesome stuff. Very unlike the Domkirke-gig, and very prog!
February 9, 2012 at 22:39 #21247Rodriguez Lopez. the best guitarist around at the moment, fyi
