February 7, 2022 at 21:17 #34900@Melanzani – Imarhan are new to me. Wow! That really sizzles at the 2 minute mark. I'm seriously going to be exploring further! Thank you!
Mdou Moctar, Tinariwen, Tamikrest, Songhoy Blues – all great stuff too, with the guitar and the vibe I'm looking for! BCUC are quite interesting too.
These are refreshing developments!
February 13, 2022 at 20:13 #34901One more of these great African bands is Telewawachi Kilili from Spain .
Although they are less into rock and more into jazz/psychedelia.
I like their debut album very much.

at my fafourite (cover)-Song of Altin Gün
February 14, 2022 at 21:36 #34903@the conscience: Thank you! That's good stuff! They are really tight, great groove, love the synth solo and she is great! Singers like that put their western equivalents to shame (if you don't include Lisa Gerrard, Sandy Denny and one or two others). I want to hear more!

There is plenty already on their bandcamp (4 albums + several singles): https://altingun.bandcamp.com/
Great band!
February 15, 2022 at 23:07 #34905Lovely stuff! Thank you! I've got plenty to get my teeth into now exploring these amazing, new (to me) bands, Altin Gün and Imarhan. Need to get to know Mdou Moctar and Tamikrest better too.
KEXP get some cracking bands in, don't they? As well as Altin Gün on there, I'm also enjoying the great, aforementioned Tinariwen:
and Mdou Moctar:

February 16, 2022 at 12:26 #34907@the conscience: From the Ukraine to the Czech Republic – I'll just chuck in this (not new) quickie as you'll appreciate it – a snatch of 'Mezi Horami' by ÄŒechomor and Jaz Coleman, from the wonderful album, 'PromÄ›ny':
Full studio track here:
It could be a distant relative of 'The Hunt' (a track that hasn't yet received the credit it's due, by the way – I might have to put that right).
