Now i´ve had some days to digest this beast, although I think it´s great I´m not completly blown away (blame the always mile high expectaions)

Highlights for me is definitly Wihsing Well, that has been on repeat A LOT. This is motorpsycho at they´re best imo, good melody, repetetive riff, building to a climax + mellotrons of course. Landslide is OK, but I think this actually works better as the little popditty it is on record. Somehow I feel the same for bombproof (favorite of HMF), especially when it´s followed by All is lonliness, those two being very similar in a way. Too much noodling perhaps? I´m all for long jams, don´t get me wrong, but I´m more for noise and droney stuff than endless guitar solos, which lucky for me, we have Side D. Great stuff, especially the Al, awesome version!

Hopefully we won´t wait 10 years till next time.

One more beef. The version of Landslide at Bielefeld was surperior. And nothing from Wien from that year. For the Motortraders, Dig the (rare) Wien shows. 2002 and 2008 are most excellent. Best in show, Bomb Proof Roll. Close second is Wishing Well. Maybe even the other way around. Love it all. Never heard MP I did not like. From early "Soothing Songs for Rut" to what you guys erronously call the Pop years (pop indeed) to BH/BC to Children. Faves AADAP, Timothy's, Phanaerothyme, the EPs Starmelt, Ozone and Serpentine and though it didn't blow me away at first HMF has been spinning in my car more than almost anything else this past year. So RW 4, like most MP will just get better and better the more I listen to it. One of the reasons I Love MP. They just get better and better. Gods, someone get me to more shows!!!!!!!!

@ seattle psychonaut: do you have a recording of vienna 08?

love the 1st 4 tracks! with wishing well being the stand-out for me. KDH and Al dont do it do much for me yet

as for the cover, my wife, who is a new yorker, says the number 45 is wearing pinstripes and that would make him a New York Yankee.

also the ad in the bakcground is for Wise chips, which dates the picture as some time after 1922, when the company was founded. the company is mainly active on the east coast and some mid western states.

Got my LP today, at Apollon in Bergen. At first I was a bit disappointed with the tracklist, missing Little Lucid Moments in my opinion.

              BUT

Bombproof Roll, oh my what a version. Can´t be expressed in words how good this one is live. Alchemyst and Kill Devil Hills are awesome to.

Not familiar with Wishing Well, but I really like it! Landslide is also very good here. Would have hope for something other than All is Loneliness though. Whole lotta Diana perhaps, theyve played it alot, and it really shows how Kapstad has influenced the jamming. Im a drummer myself, and Kapstad is sick on that track.

All in all, roadwork IV is a real winner! :)

Got my copy too and as intended, I managed to listen to it without knowing the setlist. It was hard not to peep into this topic before I got it, but even harder to sit still with the headphones on and NOT to look at the album backcover.

Bombproof, great version but after 2 listens I still think Leipzig was superior. The moog interplay (both of them I think…?) and Kenneths's outbursts and Snah soloing here is quite similar but somewhat in Leipzig there was a bit more juice in it…. But I might change my mind.

All Is Loneliness, one more evidence that the band is getting funkier through the years. Which is absolutely no bad thing.

Wishing Well, remember this from Winterthur last year but not as this grand. Beautiful. What they can squeeze out of "only" 2 chords is simply astonishing. Snah's solo ending with Ken's cymbals, so wonderfully effective.

                Landslide, nice surprise.

Kill Devil Hills, I just loooooooooooove this song, and the brutal noise part is sheer heaven.

The Alchemyst, same for this one and back to backing these 2 songs is one of many strikes of genius.

Didn't we determine that Bombproof was indeed the Leipzig version? ;) (don't have my copy yet, been listening to the rip…)

My 2 cents: Bombproof is KILLER. The moment the drums enter… shivers. Think I've heard better versions of Loneliness, but this is still awesome (All is Awesomeness), groovy as hell, beautiful fade out. Wishing Well, absolutely beautiful, one of the best solos I've ever heard (SNAHISGOD), nice surprise since I've never got into the studio version. Landslide, nice break in between, but actually so much more, lovely melodies and bass playing. KDH and Alchemyst: biggest surprise of this Roadwork. Especially Alchemyst was always one of the less interesting tracks of the Kenneth era. But here… KDH, dirtier and groovier than on BH/BC with an awesome noise part. And Alchemyst, my god, what a climax. What a groove, what a tight playing.

All in all my favourite output of the Kenneth era so far. Would love to see what comes next :)

Huh? It's a very similar version to the Leipzig one but it can't be that night's recording…? Should be obvious since there it was the set's fourth song and here it's obviously the setstarter (unless it's cockily edited as such) and it starts out differently.

Ok I compared the versions now and erm… yeah…. seem to be one and the same. Gee I was hearing different things then due to the mixes. But then the beginning is edited, maybe originating from another gig?

I shall remain spectical because of the running order thing. And also for the possibility to be the "aha! told you so!" geek whenever it turns out to have been wrong all the time.

btw geeky: is the person who shouts "I get it!" after Bent's "kick out the marmalade" line present in this phorum? quite the lol moment when listening.
