woah, great!
April 10, 2014 at 16:06 #26131I rediscovered an old love: Das Damen! They were on SST like Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and the lot in the late 80s. There are quite a few bands from back then that don't sound that good to me anymore but these guys still do!

start Slave Bird at 4:29 in the third clip, very vintage Motorpsycho to me.

April 10, 2014 at 16:18 #26133oh and this one:
early 90s subpop, never got the deserved attention. very british sounding for an american band. loved it. Especially songs 1 and 6.
April 10, 2014 at 17:47 #26134well Carlton Melton, Bardo Pond, Caspian , Grails & Rosetta are the ones that are regualar on my playlist.
April 11, 2014 at 04:39 #26135currently for me, i like listening to Monochrome (who used to be on Stickman), theyve released a new record recently, after 6 years or so of silence (I figured they disbanded already).

if you like Country, Bela B has just released a new record called "Bye" which reminds me of many country things. Its not rocky as the ITS, but its nevertheless a fine record mostly.

Laibach has recently released a new record called Spectre, and its more melody-laden then before and has EBM-influences.
The Notwist also has released a new record after some 6 years of absence. "Close to the Glass" does feature just a great batch of new songs, in their usual blend of rock and electronica.

May 1, 2014 at 15:26 #26137Last night The South played the release concert for their new album "The Further Out You Get", co-produced by Bent "Bongo" Sæther and the band.
Great album and an absolutely brilliant concert.
A few more pics here.

May 13, 2014 at 08:11 #26139Hey guys,
since MP are our common denominator it might be sensible to expect that there are other bands, too, which a lot of us know and appreciate and which are, veeeery roughly, similar to MP or at least to their sound or to their overall approach to music. Q.e.d., looking at some of the bands above.
However, since psychonauts are, by all means, people that are really interested in music, there's good reason to also expect quite a wide, eclectic range of musical styles that people in this forum listen to. So my suggestion would be to share a few favourite (or highly rated) bands that are – in whatever sense – as remote from MP as possible!
May 13, 2014 at 08:21 #26140So, I wanna start giving you two songs. The first one is by the fantastic singer/songwriter Timber Timbre. If you like the song below I strongly recommend checking out his third album (from 2009), called simply Timber Timbre. Great stuff.
The other one's by the beautiful band Belle and Sebastian before they became a cheesy mainstream pop band:

I'm really interested whether some people here are into that kinda music too, or what other stuff gets the occasional spin on the psychonaut's record player…
May 13, 2014 at 11:50 #26141Quote:So my suggestion would be to share a few favourite (or highly rated) bands that are – in whatever sense – as remote from MP as possible!…is what I sort of wanted to imply with the topic title. Or rather that we could hint each other towards great music no matter in what relation – if any – it resides to MP. Might be similar, might be remote. Psychonautical or not. No rules. Rules are stupid.
May 13, 2014 at 17:00 #26142I didn't mean to establish a rule, I just wanted to focus on remote because I thought that would be more interesting…
May 15, 2014 at 12:29 #26143Then we are very much on the same page. Also I meant "no rules" as a general thing, it was not pointed at you by any means.
Then again, "no rules" is pretty much the MP spirit anyway.
