And what's this Malibu song then?
April 17, 2018 at 13:40 #32888@crossskip, I think it's "The Maypole (including Malibu and Stunt Road)"
April 17, 2018 at 14:48 #32889I think Malibu must be the Pacific Sonata. Isnt the part (including Malibu and Stunt Road) accidently credited to The Maypole? Like a misprint on the sleeve.
@crosskip: will I see you tomorrow in Alkmaar?
April 17, 2018 at 15:01 #32890Malibu is A Pacific Sonata.
April 17, 2018 at 23:21 #32891No, "Malibu" is part of "The Maypole", and was definitely played. The Sonata was played after "Manmower" (in place of "Sol på Sunnan").
April 18, 2018 at 04:13 #32892Eh, no. Malibu is part of A Pacific Sonata. It is listed as part of The Maypole
on the CD, but that's a typo. A 3 1/2 minute acoustic song having 2 sub-parts
doesn't make any sense.
A Pacific Sonata (incl. Malibu and Stunt Road) was played in its entirety before
Manmower.
April 18, 2018 at 06:57 #32893Alright, great that that's all cleared out now =p
@harry Still tempted to go, have to leave a bit early to catch the train, but I could still see most of the show…
April 18, 2018 at 12:59 #32894Thanks for clearing that up, BUT they played the part of "The Maypole" that I thought was "Malibu", so I guess we should add "The Maypole" to the setlist then.
April 18, 2018 at 16:26 #32895I can't remember any part of Maypole. Looking at the lyrics:
https://genius.com/Motorpsycho-a-pacific-sonata-lyrics
[Part 1: Malibu]
Out in Malibu where the rich folks live
On a mountain top I will put my tent right up
And be a holy man, oh, so deep and true
A shoeless holy man with a view
How could I ever tell a lie?
No truth would ever pass me by
How would you ever be in doubt?
Come see me, learn what I'm about
Come to Malibu
The Pacific air will let you disappear
Hear the music of the spheres
Feel the canyon heat
Such a magic scene
So benign, serene: evergreen
How could I ever tell a lie?
No truth would ever pass me by
How would you ever be in doubt?
Come see me, learn what I'm about
[Instrumental]
How could I ever tell a lie?
No truth would ever pass me by
How would you ever be in doubt?
Come see me, learn what I'm about
Malibu
Its very doubtful Malibu is anything else than first part of Sonata.
April 18, 2018 at 19:04 #32896Ha, this is strange. The friend I was with also remembers "The Maypole", so at least I'm not losing my sanity alone – if it really wasn't played. And that part of the sonata (which I too am now convinced is the "actual Malibu") was played a lot later (after "Manmower"). A collective case of Motorpsychosis going on here?
April 19, 2018 at 11:24 #32897Yeah, most MP titles start with 'Ma'(Maypole, Malibu, Manmower, Mantric muffin stomp, and of course M.A.S.F.E (means there's a song for everyone). The hidden message:they are the mamas of invention!
April 22, 2018 at 18:14 #32898Actually, after hearing the LarsM recording that was made available now,
I can confirm that Sol PÃ¥ Sunnan was indeed played inside of Manmower.
April 22, 2018 at 22:43 #32899Thanks, otherdemon, and wow. I'm definitely not to be considered a trusted source after this. Glad Lars came up with the evidence!
JERO, I like your reasoning.
April 23, 2018 at 06:46 #32900No probs.
Good thing that LarsM and the usual suspects recorded this, because I had far more enjoyment listening to the recording than actually being there. But Reine wasn't very audible on the recording either, so I guess he was mixed quite low overall…
Listened to the Liege recording, and the Manmower/Sol PÃ¥ Sunnan version from that one blew my socks right off. Another reminder why MP are the world's best band when things come together
