After 93 minutes of intense sweating (partly caused by the tropical weather we’re heaving, 32°C) I was very happy to see Holland win over Brasil!
2-1
HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!
Laat de leeuw niet in z’n hempie staan
HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!
Trek het beestje geen pantoffels aan
HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!
Laat je uit ‘t veld niet slaan
Want de leeuw op voetbalschoenen
Durft de hele wereld aan!!!
Last stop: World Cup!
July 2, 2010 at 17:41 #17652THAT’S RIGHT!
All twenty-seven inhabitants of this small island in the Pacific I call home are very glad to see Oranje enter the semi finals!
They/We will come up against the victor of the match Uruguay – Ghana.
When the Dutch play with both feet (all 22 of them) on the ground they have a very good chance to go through to the finals for the first time since 1978 where they lost under suspicious circumstances (doped-up opponents) from Argentina.
Would be nice to see this match as a final!
(And win this time :!: )
July 2, 2010 at 18:02 #17653oh yes Argentina vs Holland would be a nice final. I have very faint memories of ’74 (actually only the game east vs west germany and the offical sticker album) but I do remember the ’78 final. All that toiletpaper on the field, Nanninga and then almost the winning goal close to the end but then Kempes. The drama I watched as a little boy with my dad. I don’t know if anything was fishy but so it’s said, and possible…. I was a dutch supporter with my Puma Johan Cruyff soccer shoes. But not really anymore nowadays. But I was happy to see them beat Brasil.
btw Castaway Prince, you really live on such a small island? Permanently?
July 2, 2010 at 18:23 #17654That was fun!
My neighbor across the way made it even better, he was screaming at his tv, towards the end he was totally losing it, “GODVERDOMME JONGENS! GODVERDOMME!!!! NOG VIJF MINUTEN!! NOG VIIIIJF MINUUUTEN!!!!!”
As soon as it ended, “PHWAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” goes the airhorn out his window. Awesome.
Utrecht is a wild orange tropical par-tay right now!!!!
OLE OLE OLE!
PS I never get this excited about sports, it must be the crazy heatwave getting to me!
July 2, 2010 at 23:40 #17655LOL!
July 3, 2010 at 16:16 #17656Hehe, hope to meet you in the final ;-p
July 3, 2010 at 23:53 #17657With all due respect to Uruquay and Spain it’s almost certain that the final will be the same two country’s who played against each other in the 1974 World Cup final:
Netherlands – Germany.
Finally a chance for Holland to wash away the bitter taste of defeat that stayed in our mouths for 36 years!
I remember that sunday, July 7th ’74, quite well and to this day I’m wondering why the Dutch (substitute) goalie Jan Jongbloed didn’t reacted at Gert Müller’s ball that ended up in the goal, 2-1.
People look at the Euro’88 semi-final when Holland defeated Germany 2-1 as the perfect revenge for what happened 14 years earlier, but I think that day is still to come!
At least I hope so!
Seeing both teams play this World Cup it is pretty obvious that the best football is played by the Germans.
Robben is still not at his best and in the game against Brazil he ‘forgot’ to give the ball to van Persie (who looks preoccupied with something else then football) when he had the opportunity, and there where several.
Although this team is proud of their team play there are still some loners trying to defeat their own demons:
Van Persie (mentioned above), Elia (when he’s playing) is only talking about making nice actions and tricks and trying to prove himself at this world-stage,
and that are 2 to many.
This tournament the Dutch play ‘German style’ football and the Germans play ‘Dutch style’ football, I think that the Germans will end up winning this clash of styles.
But first the 4 semi’s.
Spain won with great difficulty over Paraguay and Germany thrashed Argentina, most likely the Germans win over Spain next wednesday.
But I was wrong before with predicting football matches, for example: I never thought that Feyenoord could win the UEFA-Cup in 2002 and they did (with trainer Bert van Marwijk!)
Let’s see…
BRING IT ON!
July 6, 2010 at 21:02 #17658grrrrr this is the lousiest championship ever. now Spain must save it.
July 6, 2010 at 23:01 #17659If you only watch the World Cup to be awe-struck by excellent football this clearly is not your tournament (except if you are rooting for ze Germans).
Expectations often turn into disappointments and misery due to the lack of overview or even realism because of the focus on one certain outcome, this said…
I expect the Germans to win the Cup!
Let’s wait and see supernaut, maybe this week your wishes will be granted.
HUP HOLLAND!
If Holland wins the World Cup I would be well chuffed!

Hmmm, at least we know that if we attend a Motorpsycho concert that our expectations often are surpassed!
:MPD:
July 6, 2010 at 23:56 #17661Go Germany!
July 7, 2010 at 20:32 #17662July 9, 2010 at 01:46 #17663Well, go figure…
Spain, FC Barcelona basically, plays awesome football and according to (and expected by) the professionals they are destined to win the cup.
And I’m afraid they are right!
Holland didn’t play their best (yet) but won all matches which keeps my hopes up for a victory.
OLE!
July 9, 2010 at 06:47 #17664Well, Barcelona sure didn’t win the champion league – though they played so well in the season. It all comes up to win that game you have to win.
Man, I never thought I’d ever write/make sentenses like that
July 11, 2010 at 22:27 #17665Viva España then, guys?
