The german music magazine VISIONS rates The Death Defying Unicorn with 12/12 Stars! The reviewer says the maximum is the minimum that it deserved!
January 23, 2012 at 17:16 #21135Yes indeed, compare two posts above you I love that statement btw! Expectations rise!
January 23, 2012 at 18:52 #21136Ordered mine today. CD+LP+Shipping across the pond: EUR 38. Sweet!
January 23, 2012 at 21:44 #21137Some very promising snippets there! Can't wait!
January 23, 2012 at 22:02 #21138I'm so f*cking excited about this album!!
Why are they unable to produce anything less than a masterpiece?
I'm too tired to write more right now, but: conclusion: The Death Defying Unicorn = MP!
January 23, 2012 at 23:36 #21139well, i will not listen to the snippets but a friend of mine did.
he was not very happy about what he heard. he said:
"Have you ever been in an opera? … So with a small pair of binoculars and so on.
Soon you will sit in one… in your own room"
January 24, 2012 at 00:11 #21140Don't listen to that! I bet you that most of the "operaish" things he heard are intros for songs. And in case i'm mistaken, then believe me, there are some solid rockers in there aswell! I wouldn't worry about it.
January 24, 2012 at 00:24 #21141yeah, probably you´re right with the intros…
i must say i´m very excited about the album. somehow i like the idea with the orchstra and stings and stuff i hope it will sound "huge"!
January 24, 2012 at 07:55 #21142I just listen to the first two snippets. I love jazz, but I got bit worried after snippet two, as it had way too techincal "oooh, see what I can do" prog shit vibe for my taste. Hope I´m wrong, and I´m probalby are (HMF does not fall into the "progshit" category). I think they are best when the get locked in a groove and go on and on and on. This with some crazy freejazz on top would be nice, but I´m probaly wrong about that as well.
Better not listen to the snippets and wait for this lovely beast to arrive.
Arg, is it february soon?
January 24, 2012 at 13:14 #21143hehe, "see what I can do prog shit" is the least of my worries when it comes to Motorpsycho. Actually I don't worry about this at all. The guys – as any other musician working hard for 25 years – are ever evolving. It's natural. I'm none less than happy when they don't hold back what's piling up through time, be it ideas, visions or even – gasp! – uncool (according to the indie style police) musical skills. I find it much weirder – and actually a bit dumb – when a band still does exactly the same riffing over and over on a 24th album.
January 24, 2012 at 13:18 #21144oh yes I couldn't help listening to about 5 snippets either. For me they don't reveal anything at all. But going out on a limb I bet it's probably a bit different than Phanerothyme.
January 24, 2012 at 13:30 #21145Stickfrau on Twitter about an hour ago:
There are mountains of mailorder packages stacked everywhere and lots more to go still!
January 24, 2012 at 13:43 #21146I listened to all of the snippets. I think the snippets aren't very representative, as it looks like the one choosing 'em decided to almost entirely focus on the string/horn parts
January 24, 2012 at 15:15 #21147I don'think they're chosen as much as that they're simply the beginnings of each track. As for "worries" regarding the album, the only thing i find abit troubling is that some of the vocal lines really sound like that danish band Mew, which i don't like that much. But all in all i've got high hopes, and i'm very excited! Bring on the masterpiece
January 24, 2012 at 17:57 #21148The biggest surprise for me was the snippet of track 2, The Hollow Lands. That one was totally The Mars Volta all the way! Snah & Kapstad have been spotted at Mars Volta gigs in Oslo; finally it paid off music-wise
As for vocals, I really don't care all that much. I expect the same "slightly off-key" Bent as always :MPD:
