ok, here we go again:
A small selection, which makes no claim to be exhaustive and is largely limited to the cultural assets for which the city has become, or was, famous: beer, mining and Football.
Food:
– Yüksel on Mallinckrodtstraße (a Turkish restaurant within walking distance of the Junkyard. I recommend the Islender kebab)
– Wurst Willi on Westenhellweg (a typical snack bar, I recommend the Currywurst)
– Zum Alten Markt on Alter Markt (the best Mettbrötchen in town, served on what’s known as a ‘Salzkuchen’ – you’ll only find this in Dortmund)
– Caracalla on Münsterstr. (good Lebanese cuisine, also within walking distance of the Junkyard)Beer culture:
– Bergmann Kiosk at Hoher Wall (delicious beer in a relaxed atmosphere, and close to Black Plastic (see below))
– Hövels Hausbrauerei (also at Hoher Wall; another small brewery serving delicious beer, though slightly more traditional)
– Dortmunder U near Hoher Wall (former site of the Dortmunder Union Brewery, now a museum and exhibition hall)Football:
– Borsigplatz (where Borussia Dortmund was founded, very close to the Junkyard; unfortunately, there isn’t much to see there…)
– German Football Museum (right by the station and within sight of the Dortmund U)
– Westfalenstadion (if you have enough time and are interested in a stadium tour… note: home match against Paderborn on 12 September)Mining:
– Zeche Zollern Museum (a former colliery site in Dortmund converted into a museum)
– Muttental in Witten (situated in a tiny town on the outskirts of Dortmund, the very cradle of hard coal mining in continental Europe. A small museum, set in the heart of the beautiful Ruhr Valley)
– Mining Museum in Bochum (a museum dedicated to the subject, including access to an ‘educational adit’)And last but not least: Black Plastic Records on Rheinische Strasse (the city’s best record shop with an adjoining café, very close to the Bergmann Kiosk and the Dortmund U)

What if one wanted to, say, kick off in the void or maybe chill out to Pink Floyd..?
I moved away from there more than 10 years ago, so I can’t say for certain, but you should be able to find something in Nordstadt, where the Junkyard is also located … but: be careful, Nordstadt is a rather rough neighbourhood…
@ TractorBass: You’d need a time machine then (which you surely might aquire) cause the big Pink Floyd exhibition in Dortmund is long over (been a few years) ;-)
Quite excited about this tour, although traveling between these German cities by train is more demanding (time + money) than expected.
A big part of the fun I had last year was in exploring the cities for half a day. Seems like this time I will at best get an hour to visit around.Anyway, it’s gonna be a cool set of shows.

By chance, there isn’t anyone driving from Aschaffenburg to Nürnberg after the concert who can give me a ride?It was a cool set of shows that brought all kind of great moments. The band once again delivered like the exceptional pros that they are.
Stian is a great fit and brought his own thing in the line up and atmosphere.
I don’t fully grasp the few negative comments about the setlists. I would have loved them to play Trust Us front to back but that’s not who the band is now, and whatever they decided to jam on several times for 20 minutes was what I didn’t know I wanted when the tour started.
Anyway, looking forward to the next shows and the next chapter of the band.Thanks to gentleman Francesco (which I finally met) for consistency in posting the setlists and recording duties and thanks for the random tips posted here.
