To be honest, I am not surprise if this year they decided to skip the UK. I've been living in London since 2009 and last year I managed to go and see them for the first time at the Garage for the one and only UK date of TDDU. It was an incredible show, they played the all record from start to finish with not a single break and I don't think a fan can ask more than that! And what did they get for it? A stupid drunk idiot who decided to threw his jacket onto the stage during their anchor hitting Snah in the face. They rightfully left the stage without finishing the song.
I would love to see them this year as badly as anyone else here, being a hardcore fan since I was 8, especially after having seen some of the setlists they played in Norway recently, but If I were them I wouldn't come to the UK to play 1 single show for 500 people after an episode like that.
Oh yes, I forgot the incident at the Garage, I'm quite sure there's a video on youtube about that, but don't ask me to find it
Not an encouraging episode, but I don't honestly think it can be the reason not to go back to UK. Supernaut has explained very well the real reasons.
Complaining about records distribution makes more sense actually.
I was absolutely gutted when that idiot threw his jacket at the end of the Garage show last year, what a sour note to end such a fantastic concert.
themetalunicorn, yes, their distribution here is lousy (I work in a record shop and have been known to order my own MP records online from Stickman/RG to get my copy weeks before they get distributed to us), there's a few weeks' delay for all RG stuff for some reason – basically we get different release dates in the UK to mainland Europe, and in this case delays even beyond that. That doesn't mean they owe you a concert or they're "not looking after their fans" though. The fact is that they don't have nearly as many fans here as elsewhere and it doesn't make sense to come here and play to 50 people, either using inferior gear than you're used to or bringing over the gear and crew you're used to playing to 2000 people with.
Put it this way…if you played in a band who were successful in Britain, and you went over to Norway four years running and nobody seemed interested, would you be abandoning your Norwegian fans if you decided to stop going there and concentrate on places where people were actually excited to see you? I think here in Britain we can get ridiculously self-important about this kind of thing. Why are we so important that every band in the world is obliged to come here and perform for us?
A UK tour would be great at this point, though. I've certainly noticed more friends of mine getting turned on to them lately so I think they might be surprised at the response, especially given that so many people over here have been waiting a long, long time to see them play.
Altroubles, I travelled down from the Midlands for the Lindon gig last year too, and it was a blinder
If the actions of one drunk idiot outweighed the warmth and joy the band got from the other 4-500 or whatever it was I'd be mightily miffed
But this is another bone of contention. Why come over for one gig and play to 500, when you could at the very least add say Birmingham / Glasgow and play to twice as many, and no doubt shift a fair few more records and merch in the process ?
Don't forget the other end of it: if the venue/local promoter didn't make enough money last time, due to lack of ticket sales/attendance, maybe they're not very keen on running the risk of losing money once again?

Luckily it was during the encores, so the rest of us got to enjoy pretty much the whole show. I was there, and i certainly had my share of trouble with that drunken idiot. He stood right by me, and more often then not, he'd shove people, jump around like a madman, get right in your face talking (spitting) about all sorts of bullshit. And as his grand finale, he planted his jacket right in Snahs face.
Rumor has it that he got alot of heat from other audience members after the show. What a drunken moron!
Well as said before, MP have played UK many times. Lates was in London at the Garage. It have also been alot of fun but unfortunatly also very expensive. I dont belive they intace on the concerts have paid for the ferryticket across the channel let alone the crew/bus. So I gather that they have to plan this very carefully. Also on the gigs I've been to, esp in london the audience have been a lot of Norwegians as well.
They have been gettin alot of good press (Mojo, Shindig etc) but I dont think that have paid off in sales. Stickman was distributed by Cargo Records for a while (while Simon Keeler/Heads manager) worked there. I don't know if they have distribution there now. I belive Rune Grammofon is distributed there now, but I dont how much resources they have to put in a campaign in the UK and if its worth the time and expenses. But I belive if they get the oportunity they will try to get over again. by the way this is my assesment of the situation as far as I know. :wink:
Rune Grammofon are distributed by Cargo here, but their titles tend to reach shops at least a month after release and with little to no fanfare. I'm not sure why it takes so long, at the shop where I work we're still waiting on our SLWE vinyl!
