Here's Jan Frode (jeg), Frode and Ingrid meeting with the band at a
gas station in Steinkjer, March 1st 1996:
(Norwegian, I'm afraid)
Bent: |
"Neida, adresse?" Skriver navn og adresse. |
Frode og Ingrid: |
"Vi vil også ha!!" |
Jeg: |
"Kan du skrive en til? Egentlig to til?" |
Bent: |
(Smiler. Skriver to til, de to neste mye finere enn den første.) |
Jeg: |
"Tusen takk." |
Jeg: |
"Hei orker dere også å skrive her?" |
Snah: |
"Ja." |
Gebhardt: |
"Jada." |
Snah & Gebhardt: |
(skriver). På den siste tegner Snah en smilemunn. |
Frode & Ingrid: |
(Holder seg godt bak meg, men tett inntil) |
Jeg: |
"Takk." |
Snah & Gebhardt: |

Steinar and Andre of Quest opened for
Motorpsycho in Bergen, spring 97.
Here's their story. (Norwegian)
Her kommer litt inside Motorpsycho-sladder fra Bergen.
Steinar Analog Sekkingstad, Ronny Vinacca Ekren og Andre' Van Algrøy)
så heldig å varme opp for De Kongelige Høyheter. Fra ende til annen
var de helt psycho-koselig.
February 1994 at a Hedge Hog concert at
Studentersamfundet in Trondheim:
Me and this friend of mine Børre saw Cec, Snah and Geb sitting in Klubben
(part of stud samf), and we found out that we could go over and talk with them
and tell them that we really liked their music. Nervously
we approached Cecilie. (I guess it looked stupid -
like teenagers meeting Spice Girls or something : , but hey they rock!)
After getting the "how to obtain one of those cool long sleeve shirts"
info we asked Snah and Geb if they could give us their
autographs (again kind of embarrasing - but they still ROCK!) They took it
with a smile and wrote their names on a sheet we found. Snah (being
ironic and of course joking with us) wrote "du er søt" and scetched a
little timothy smile. Geb signed with Haakon. During the concert we once
again went over to the guys. Snah told me that it was his first Hedge Hog
concert. This conversation was much more relaxed and interessting than the
first one. We suggested that they could release the Sunchild acoustic
version recorded backstage at Roskilde. Snah agreed (wow), but said that
they had some legal problems with P3.
Later in 1994 at the re-opening-party of Strossa I asked Bent if he would
sign my t-shirt. Hmf he said no thanks because I was wearing a Nirvana
shirt. He said that Nirvana were great but that he wouldn't sign his name
on it.
Anonym!
Stentofon-bygget i Trondheim.
11. July 1997:
Bent with two guys at Cafe Dali, drinking red wine
and water, and talking.
In 1994, Bent sat on my cat.
In 1997, he was forgiven (by the cat) and the cat sat on him. Exciting, isn't it?
Some on this list [g-35] has told stories about themselves and MP... here's mine.
I'd like to tell you all just one thing first: This will probably be one of my
stories which I tend to tell them, loads of irrelevant details, and too long
sentences, but here we go:
This was probably this spring (or something), or last fall, because "This is
MP" was just released and I wanted to get my sticky fingers on a copy. So, I
called The Office one day, and asked if that's where I was supposed to come and
buy it. Cecilie told me yes, but that I should wait 'till the next day, since
they were expecting the covers to arrive. I waited, and the next day I called
back. Cecilie told me that they were just folding the covers to put them in/on
the plastic covers that vid-tapes come in.
I borrowed a bike, and set out to Svartlamo'n to pay a little visit to The
Office. Stangely, the city was kinda crowded this day. (I want you to know that
I left school just to buy this movie...).
A few minutes later I knocked on The Office's door, and Cecilie let me in. She
and this other guy (him who shot the movie) was prepping everything for the
rush of fans waiting to come down there to buy a copy, or get one sent to them.
I paid and left (he who made the movie (I dunno, whaz-his-name) took my money,
and off I was, on my way back to school. My heart thumping after the bike ride
out there, and after actually meeting the Movie-maker and Cecilie (I dunno why
I get this thumping, cause I feel like I meet Cecilie everywhere).
Well: I race back to school, and on my way back I have to cross a bridge over
the river (all people from Trondheim knows that this bridge is Bakke bro). As
mentioned earlier, the city was kinda crowded, and so was the bridge. But I
kinda didn't care, I just sped on to get back. The sidewalk on the bridge was
full of babies in trolleys, kids with icecream, old people and cats and dogs...
I reckon you get this, but the bridge was pretty crowded. It didn't keep me
from speeding through though, I swiveled and back and forth through the crowd
in a neckbraking speed, I hadn't been cycling for years before this incident,
so my controll was not good. Suddenly, there right in front of me, was....
Bent! He just came from outta nowhere, and I had to react really quick to not
run him down. And it is not a good idea to race down a crowded sidewalk out of
control, but I didn't hit anybody, luckily. I don't even think Bent noticed me.
Actually, I don't know if he saw me or not, because I was fully occupied with
keeping myself upright.
What if I got distracted the second before I saw him... I would have run him
straight down... Scary, huh?
Next time: Eirik getting his copy of Demon Box signed by.
liksom. Sa at han ogsaa likte lakriss. Neste paket er til deg, Geb ...
SENSURERT!
This sighting was before the Motorpsycho concert
at Kvarteret in Bergen spring 97.
At Kvarteret you have to get a stamp if you want to
go out of the concert premises. Before the concert started I had to
take a piss and on the way back Bent walked right in front of me. He
got stopped by the doorman refusing to let him in without a
stamp. Bent said he did'nt need a stamp and just walked in. The
doorman started to run after him, but I guess he realized who it was
and got back where he belonged.
I also shook Bents hand (pretty silly) before the concert concert at
Kvartert autumn 97. He was trying to add som people to the guest list (I
thing).
It was an MP-gig in Sandvika, or Asker,
the support act was Yelp.
After their set, me and a friend went to the toilet, and when we
walked out afterwards, the next in line was Bent! Yeah!
me, but...i have a performance tonight".
Dutchmen, svenskar and italians: Sorry for the odd language. My
translator has the weekend off. Btw: Anyone know where i can find
the "how to pick up girls" mailing list?
Saturday before christmas 1997:
Gebhardt was with a woman at a Backstreet Girls concert at Veita, Trondheim. Backstreet Girls
plays boogie-rock.
August 1995:
Motorpsycho in a bar in Nürnberg, playing kicker
against two germans and a swede while chanting "kill the nazis and
their friends!".
I was at a nachspiel in Fredrikstad,
after some friend of mine had played support for Motorpsycho there. Think it
was in 97 or 96. Anyway, Gebhard was there, and juggled with som
onions. He is better at drums!
I had a weird dream this morning ...
... you know, when you wake up too early for
your own feeling, yet you can't really sleep again otherwise you'll be late
for work or so - well, I was lying in my bed this morning, floating in that
beautiful "void"-feeling. I somehow half-slept or so, and I dreamt I found
a rare MP-thing in my local recordshop Elpee (which is true in a way - I
found the Sinful, Wind-Borne single there...). Anyways, I found a box of
singles by Bent, only him and not Geb and Hans. Some of the songs were
MP-songs (can't remember all), yet with Norwegian titles, even dialect.
"Itj' no' å si" instead of "Nothing to say". Weird stuff. And the weirdest
thing is - I didn't even buy the goddamn thing.
After the Samfundet show in march 98:
Gebhardt with friends chilling in Bodegan afterwards, and answering funny remarks by fans.
Spiritualized-concert in Oslo, 13th march 98:
Snah and Gebhardt in place.
Huse' i Steinkjer!!!!! Det! Det er lenge siden det!
On Sunday the 15th of March
... I was sitting in the cafe at
Kunstnernes Hus ("The Artists' House") in Oslo, enjoying the
post-concert vibe from the Motorpsycho gig at Rockefeller the night
before (forthcoming review in "Tore's Official Concert Guide",
http://www.cs.uit.no/~toreho).
Instead of a tablecloth, the tables had facsimiles from
the program of the current exhibition, and the name MOTORPSYCHO of
course drew my attention immediately. As it turned out,
their concert was considered part of an ongoing project on
highlighting Norwegian
artists, and our dear Kim Hiortoey had designed the program for the
exhibition as well.
I was waiting for a friend of mine at that cafe, and as it
became more and more apparent that I was getting stood up, I looked
bitterly out the window. And what did I see? Bent came walking up to
the building in a group with four other people! They came in, Bent
walking in the forefront with this other guy I am assuming was Kim!
Awed by their presence, I decided I had waited for my friend long
enough, and, like Bent and the gang, entered the exhibition.
So, coming there was not a waste, after all. "Trust Us"
has certainly proved beyond a doubt that Motorpsycho is genuine art
(as are Kim's designs)!!
Jeg kjenner en som var på ...
This was in late 95 or early 96.
A female friend of mine from
Trondheim was in Oslo for the weekend, and stayed in her cousins
apparment somewhere down town (the name of the place I forget, but I
still remember the location) So I got off the bus and looked around. I
had a sheet of paper with a map on it, but it didn`t make any sense.
Where the hell was I? And where the hell was I supposed to go? Left?
Right?
So I threw the map away and started looking for the street sign.
But alas...none to see. After fifteen minutes of wandering and
pondering I stepped up to a couple who was exiting a building, and
asked for the adress I now can't remember. The guy answered by
pointing at where they came from and said: " Just walk in there and
look for the entrence". OK, thanx I said back, and while leaving
eachother it hit me! I`ve seen him before! He's got something to do
with Motorpsycho! Damn! It's Deathprod!!!!!!!
But I was to uncertan to walk back to him. I still thought: No,
can`t be!
So walking in to the building I had problems finding the right
entrance. There were about twelve of them, and their numbers were
cunningly disguised. So again I stepped up to the first and best
doorbell panel and looked for the name of my friends cousin.
But there, in the dim light over the door I saw the name that
confimed my suspicion and made my day: Helge Steen (Deathprod to all
you new ones)
So now I know where Deathprod lives!!!
Another good one:
Me and my brother were at Rockefeller and waiting
for MP to enter the stage, and this little, annoing man was talking
his ass off in front of us ruining the hole rush before MP got on
stage. So we told him to shut up and piss off and grow a foot taller
and so on (you know the drill) He got very angry and his little
fingers wanted to strangle us, and alas he went away.
THEN ...
In the middle of the concert MP started playing True Middle (or
G-35, The Void or whatnot) And in came the dwarf we'd fucked up not
one hour ago. We thought: What the hell and how the hell did he get on
stage? And why the fuck are they letting him walk around up there?
Then he walked over to a mic and started talking:
"This life, unforfilled for so many ..."
It was Matt Burt!!!!! We had just embarrased ourselves infront of
the greatest poet of our times!!!!
Major bum out!!!!
January 1999 ...
... Snah at the old bus station in Trondheim at 09:00 in the morning,
freshly shaved and looking incredibly tired. Why was he there?
This was november 1998, i think.
Me and a friend were going to rent a video at Lade, near svartlamoen.
When we entered the video store, I noticed a long-haired man standing at
the counter, paying the clerc.
We went over to one of the shelves to pick a movie. I turned around,
just to see a man (looking very much like Bent ... ;) ...) turning
towards me and smiling at my MP-beanie. Then he walked out of the store.
Cool. I rent my movies at the same place as Bent.
Så her kommer mitt
GEBHARDT! Jeg ser på ham og han ser på meg og jeg reiser meg og sier "I
know you!".
bertene er like kloke.
Det ble dame på meg den kvelden.
Frode Den Store
On saturday, my girlfriend and a friend of hers opened up a
coffee-bar in Halden.
It all went really well and there where _a
lot_ of customers on the first day. They closed at six, and about
a quarter past six, three rather scruffy-looking fellas came in.
The girl behind the counter (not my girlfriend, the other one)
said that they where actually closed, but they could stay for a
cup of coffee. On second thought, I'm glad she said that.
They were Bent, Snah and some other dude I did not recognize.
The coffeebar is located about 200 meters from Athletic Sound
Studio, which some of you may have heard of.
MP are now regulars there. Favorite drink: Double Espressos.
And my girlfriend met them on the street the other day, and they
said hello. My girlfriend is on speeking (well, sort of) terms
with mp. That's cool.
And of course: this means that MP is now working on some kind of
project in Athletic Sound. Rumours (well-based) say that they
will also play at Studensamfundet in Halden on the 20th of April.
17th of May 1999:
Snah walking around with woman and child in pram, looking at the child's parade and celebrating
the national day in the sun.
03rd of July 1999:
In an interview at Roskilde: Snah saying something about not living the pop star life down
there and about his wish just to return home to his girlfriend and kid.
07th of July 1999: Snah sighted in Trondheim, walking around with his girlfriend and kid.
16th of July 1999:
Gebhardt sighted kissing his girlfriend on Gamle Bybro in Trondheim by Jeroen. Yes Geb and
others (I know you look every week), spies are everywhere ...
One morning my girlfriend told me about this dream she had had
that night:
She dreamt that she and I were walking around in the town
and suddenly we saw Bent sitting in a booth/stall at the sidewalk. I
got really excited and we ran into the shop. Then we saw that Bent was
sitting there signing a vinyl record he had made. The cover was
completely white, and those who bought the record was allowed to
decide what Bent should write on the record and what the title should
be... Bent was scratching his head and rubbing his eyes all the time
and was really tired. And then we started talking to him and I think
the dream ended with all three of us falling a sleep on a sofa ...
Once again about from my girlfriend.
My girlfriend's uncle is a
bassplayer and has played in the Mari Boine Band (Mari Boine is a sami
musician), and they were nominated for the Spellemannspris at the same
time as Motorpsycho. My girlfriend's uncle was sitting right next to
Motorpsycho and after the show he and MP talked about music and stuff
for 2-3 hours! I'll have to ask him what they talked about...
20th of December 1999:
I have to tell you guys that saturday night i talked to Snah!! A friend of mine
was at Burger king here in Trondheim, and then he noticed Snah was waiting for
his food. Since my friend is not as big fan I am he wasn't sure if it actually
was him. My friend called me, and then gave his phone to Snah and I talked to
him for a few minutes (my friend talked to him for at least 15 minutes).
I was a bit drunk, but I remember asking him lot's of silly question just to
find out whether it was him or not! (his age, which songs he sings on, ++)
My pal got his autograph on some paper, and I will try to scan it so you guys
can see it.(He wishes me a merry christmas!!) really cool!
And another thing, he had pencils attached to his jacket(like he was prepared
to sign autographs!)
So that was the first time I talked to an member of MP!
Anders Kalland
Heisann!
And that`s all I have to say about that ...
A few months ago, somebody lent me 'The tussler' on vinyl.
So I ran to
the Effenaar in Eindhoven (the place where I work) to make myself a nice
cd copy, using the high quality turntables which live there. It was 2
days after Motorpsycho had played there and I wasn't aware of the fact
that they were still in town. So I stood there recordings in that big
hall, alone, when suddenly...Snah walked in. Obviously, he was looking
for something and seemed surprised to find the concerthall after the door
he had opened. Unfortunately, he hadn't heard the music I was playing and
so wasn't aware of what I was doing there.
I immediately ran after him but he had disappeared in smoke....
Later that day, I had the honour to meet Gebhardt (at the same location)
and talk to him about the band and stuff. He seemed to be a very kind and
funny guy who looks you in the eye when to talk to him.
ok, yesterday evening there was the Brescia (Italy) gig.
Obviously we were there, me, two friends and a friend of
mine sister. We enjoyed the gig a lot, there was a lot of
person. At the end of the concert we jsut decided to take
more lunch, and went of to the tents to eat. After an hour
we walked to the MP bus that was on the left side of the
stage and found Piddah there. So we asked if MP member would
get down the bus to sign some autographs and speaks few
minutes. He told us that they were discussing somethin', but
we wuould ask. After just 30 seconds we was on the bus, Bent
come down, and was looking quite happy, and very kind. He
signed a Manmower EP I've had just bought, and the "let'em
eat cake" booklet. He even signed 5000 Italian Lire to a
friend of mine, joking that it wasn't enough for an
autorgraph, and that for 5000 he could put just the B on
8-))) After that come down Snah, quite in a hurry (kinda),
and signing my friend "let'em eat cake" vinyl.
After that he just returned on the bus. We shoot some photos
with bent (it was the first time fo me I meet Bent).
Well, they are very kind people, maybe this is the reason
why we love them so much, they looks loke us!!
Pamela
English version (which is a little different from the italaian one but I
think you won't mind):
In May 1997 Zazzo and me went to see the Motorpsycho gig at the Bloom of
Mezzago (where they play every spring). We arrived quite early because we
wanted to be sure to get tickets and we found... Motorpsycho playing
football. They were all sunburnst and we talked a while with Bent who said
some words in italian too. Maybe they knew that in italy everybody plays football?
the guy who lives downstairs in that house were snah used to live
(snah lived upstairs) is also a mp-fan ...
... and when he moved in he noticed
the guy living upstairs, and thought he looked like snah, but thought
"nah, it can't be!", but one day they started talking and snah said
something like: "the most important things in life is to read a lot and
play a lot of music" (well said! :) - and so the conversation continued:
the guy downstairs: |
"so, what do you do for a living?" |
snah: |
"well, i play in a band ..." |
the guy: |
"oh really? what band?" |
snah: |
"oh, you probably don't know us, we're not that big ..." |
the guy: |
"but what's the name of the band?" |
snah: |
"ehm, well, it's motorpsycho" |
the guy: |
"ghasp!" |
As I were taking a break from work a beautiful thursday morning
(yesterday), I noticed a hansom looking guy going up Skippergata (where
I work). It was the geb and he was going inside to record another album
in the studio right beside the Imerslund musikk store. (The city I am
talking about is Oslo if someone didn't know that) I think that is the
same studio which Cape (is that their name?) in the Popstarsprogramme
are using.(Am I living in Hollywood?) Maybe MP and Cape could do
something together. Ohhh...that would be great....(ironic)
The geb had also a great looking bag which he wore. It was grey and had
a green MPlogo on it. Where can I find one of those?
Monday, went out of the office in Prinsens gate in Oslo and ran into Bent
and Cecilie on their way down the street. I say "Bent", and get him to sign
a paper for me... :)
Well, I ask him about the recording, and he say that at four o'clock that
afternoon they are to mix the last track, and that's about it, I have to go
and I can't think of anything else to ask him... Off course I could have
asked him a thousand things but the setting wasn't right I think... Here's a
thought: Make a list of things that STiG could/should have asked Bent:
- Title of the album?
- Any single/ep?
are two obvious, anyone else?
Then comes tuesday, I walk into Spøk & Spenning in Thorvald Meyers gate and
who else than Bent and Cecilie are in there? Well, I decide that I won't do
the teeny-thing again so I just don't do anything
Spring 2003, Bent and the team "Kjelli's Helter" are regulars at Pop Quiz (aka. Vil du bli grillionær?) at Cafe 3b in Trondheim. Bent, Kjelli, Morten F and a guy called Erik make up the team. Prizes are typically concert tickets for UFFA, 3 beers and so on.
