@Dense-Fog I don't see that the Stick Man newsletter mentions the specific date. It says 19-22.04.18. Of course, being Roadburn, there's the possibiity they might play twice, as some of the other bands will. I hope so.
@Dense_Fog How do you know they're playing on the first day? Is that confirmed?
Thanks for the heads-up.
I just turned down going to Roadburn with a bunch of friends – the guys that got me into MP. They're going to be so pleased. I might have to change my plans

@TraktorBass – Aha! I was wondering who the Arnie Hassle character might be, and whether or not there was a connection with the boating title. I figured there had to be, but I had no idea. Thanks for filling in that blank for me (and many others, I would guess).
The Bombproof Roll and Beyond
Although I expect this is common knowledge amongst long-time psychonauts, I had no idea what this title referred to until I bumped into this:

I had only heard Starfire a couple of times and maybe one other album before the gig, so most of it was basically unknown to me. I attended in the company of the three friends who got me into MP, and all four of us thoroughy got off. The gig was held in an auditorium which is generally used for 'serious' music and the sound quality was basically as good as it gets. However, as the final gig in the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival, a lot of people left during the first two songs, seemingly unaware of what they had let themselves in for.
Opening for JJ was Sinikka Langeland, also from Norway. Her beautiful music came across to me, in parts, like a genteel, folk Magma. It was mesmerising and gorgeous, with the band and singers performing with brilliance and feeling.
An excellent review here: https://www.ft.com/content/dda23d3a-cddd-11e7-947e-f1ea5435bcc7
@fillmore – I hope you don't mind, I availed myself of the WeTransfer link you provided yesterday, as I'm still not up and running with DIME yet.
Listening now – what an excellent recording. And for the first time I'm hearing Greener – that's right, I still haven't heard Blissard! I can't believe I only discovered MP a few months ago. Where have I been! OK gotta go – Lacuna/Sunrise just started. … I'm in heaven!
Just to be clear, I don't actually have a problem with criticism, I just can't come at their output from that angle. Maybe at some point. For those who want to play, go for it – the points being made are pretty interesting.
And I'm with JERO. New though I am to the psychonaut fold, one of the overriding aspects of this band that floors me is their apparent Weltanschauung vis-Ã -vis the music. Having come late to the band and then digested as much as I can in as short a time as possible (inculuding a couple of gigs) I find it very hard to see any song other than in the light of the band's entire output, including not just the music itself, but also their approach to music, the way they cross-reference other artists, their committment to creativity over manufacture, their desire to inspire moments of transcendence rather than perfomr with rote repetition on stage, their playfulness over seriousness. Taking all of this together is what, to my as-yet-not-fully-grown psychonaut mind, makes an MP song what it is. There are songs I don't particularly like, but in the context I just outlined, I find it difficult to say this is bad or that's worse. I am therefore turned on by the whole rather than turned off by the holes.
Having said all that, over on the Yesfans forum, there are much worse threads as people seem to love tearing holes not just in the music, but in the band members too. I hope it never comes to that over here.
Quote:"Motorhead Mama" – quite obviousIs it? Are you talking about Motörhead or Neil Young's Motorcycle Mama? Or both?

November 15, 2017 at 12:45 in reply to: Jaga Jazzist – Royal Festival Hall, London, 2017.11.19 #31701@Tomcat – Actually it's the Royal Festival Hall – different venue, but one of very high repute indeed. I will defintiely be doing some eyes-closed sound surfing, which is a pretty normal state for me at most gigs. I spent much of the Köln gig with eyes shut! Just listening to the recording of that gig now – wow, I almost can't believe I was there! (BTW – are you on Facebook?).
@marc – Thanks. Really looking forward to it. And I'll be in the company of my London/UK MP friends.
