There’s also a longer interview from Aftenposten here:
January 12, 2010 at 11:16 in reply to: Dagsavisen interview with Bent/Snah (January 12th, 2010) #15965In another interview Bent also mentioned that Vestrheim’s work with Shining and Jaga also made them more excited to work with him, although Jørgen Træen was their initial 1st choice (Træen unfortunately got tinnitus shortly before MP were to go into his Duper studio)
VG gave it 6 of 6! Stein Østbø was more or less ecstatic about the record. Bent & Snah also made a remark about the slight difficulty of having a 4-year old and a 12-year old running around at home while they were out on tour. But they gave major kudos to their mothers for “being understanding and forthcoming”
The VG review/interview is not online yet.
I really dug this quote from Dagsavisen:
(COTF debate, vinyl vs CD)
– It was meant to be a small & secret release for the fans, no big deal at all. But it backfired in brilliant fashion. It gave us a lot of attention and created lotsa debate. The best Publicity-thing we’ve ever done, and it wasn’t even meant as one, Snah proclaims proudly.
First of all, you must have a membership at this mailing list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/motortrades/
Read instructions on how to behave/send mails to the list. Then ask for an invite. It could take a while these days because there’s not much MP live-activity for now. There’s only one or two guys who can send the invites.
Other than that, it functions like Dime/Waffles/What etc.
According to this link: http://motortrades.org/torrents-details.php?id=19
It’s already up there. Request someone to jump on the torrent. I don’t have the files anymore, just the DVD I burned which is lying *somewhere*….
With video yes. And some crowd noise outro as well.
I don’t know if the quality is any better than your version (probably not), but it’s almost complete (a tiny bit of the beginning of Manmower/The Wheel is missing)
If you’re a member on Motortrades, the DVD is available there, I think.
Hm, weird. The one I have is the complete version with the ending of Neverland. Several sources circulating, I guess.
Øya was 06 btw.
It couldn’t be on Dime because it was lossless. Someone posted it on a private tracker way back when in good+ quality. I haven’t seen it since, but most of it is on Youtube anyway (except Manmower/The Wheel)
Well, that’s a matter of taste Marty. I wasn’t too thrilled about the jam in the studio-version of Sunship, but I grew to accept it. I might with Starhammer’s jam too, but it just felt like it coulda been better. Really really like the build-up at the end of it though.
Finally I’ve heard the album as well!
Don’t agree too much on the Barracuda tendencies. Only the main riff of W.B.A.T could’ve been on Barracuda as that one is a bit cock-rockish.
First impressions:
Starhammer: IMO they unfortunately start off the album on a weak note. The main theme is great of course, but the jam doesn’t really go anywhere for quite a while. Then suddenly it builds up to a cool explosion and then back to the main theme. So far for me, it’s the weakest song on here, but there are vast possibilities of jamming in a live context. Potential live-monster.
X-3 (Knuckleheads In Space)/The Getaway Special: Two songs in one really. First one is a Deep Purple-inspired speedy rocker with the catchiest chorus on the album. Then halfway it becomes a jazzy instrumental with great trumpet from Mathias Eick. Messy, but entertaining as fuck.
The Bomb-Proof Roll & Beyond: They’ve learned a trick or two from Mars Volta lately. There is a section of white noise midway here similar to the one on Conjugal Burns on the Bedlam In Goliath album. And lotsa tricky vocal-harmonies too, esspecially near the end. Cool stuff.
Close Your Eyes: Piano ballad with usual Bent vox. Some background guitar picking and noises (e-bow possibly?). A good breather inbetween all the bombast.
W.B.A.T: More Mars Volta in the beginning, Kenneth’s best percussion performance of the record. Then turns into a Barracuda-influenced riff and later grows and builds, grows and builds. Great fucking song!
Gullible’s Travails I-IV: Agree with every word Marty said in his review. There is also a hidden outro at the end which sounds like it was tacked on randomly, having nothing to do with the rest of the piece. Classic song that should be performed a lot during upcoming gigs. Only a couple sections of Phoots Flower made it on here. Ending is very Fragile/Close To The Edge/Relayer-ish.
So a very good first impression actually. Starhammer being the worst doesn’t say much because it’s got some great parts, but the jam was non-descript and a bit low on energy. But be warned: This requires a lot of listening! But all the more rewarding in the end, I guess.
Thx, there it was! Listening to it now, sounds VERY promising!
I can’t find it. They only have the ones from yesterday put up there.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that new song posted (which apparently was an early version of Sunship which was played during those summer festivals)
Which one is the 3rd video? I only knew of those 2.
Quote:by the way, does somebody have the 3 clips from the 2007 dour festival….?2 of them available here: http://hobbits.no/~vegardh/mp2007/
Rightclick and save as.
FML!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got an e-mail from Platekompaniet saying that the release of Heavy Metal Fruit has been delayed until January 18th
On the other hand, good to see that Phoot’s Flower ends the album. Can’t wait to see what they’ve done with it since 2006.
