I've been working through my MP3s, making playlists of every artist I have 5 albums or more from. A slow process, but I finally got around to MP.
My rules for these playlists are basically: No more than 2 songs from each album (3 from a double or 1 song from an EP); songs from the same album shouldn't be consecutive on the playlist; it should sound like a well-sequenced album.
So it doesn't exactly fit the rest of the thread in terms of rules… still, this is what I've come up with:
– The Other Fool
– The Nerve Tattoo
– Have Fun
– President Block
– Kill Some Day
– Another Ugly Song
– In The Family
– Beautiful Sister
– That Ol' White Line
– B.S.
– Uberwagner or a Billion Bubbles In My Mind
– Lighthouse Girl
– The House At Pooneil Corners
– Demon Box
– The Sailboat Song
– Wishing Well
– September
– Pills, Powders and Passion Plays* (Fishtank)
– Stained Glass
– Hyena
– Dr Hoffmann's Bicycle
– Grindstone* (Roadworks II)
– She Left On The Sun Ship* (personal edit)
– Radiance Freq.
– Custer's Last Stand (One More Daemon)
– The Slow Phaseout
– With Trixeene Through The Mirror, I Dream With Open Eyes
– S.T.G.
– Triggerman
– Starmelt/Lovelight
– Hogwash
– Junior
– Frances
– The Golden Core
– Hey, Jane
– Waiting For The One* (Tussler)
– Gullible's Travails (Pt.I-IV)
– Vortex Surfer* (Roadworks I) (May edit some of the final applause out)
– A Memory
Like I said, it was a good show.
I didn't know about the curfew (and a 10:30 curfew is pretty stupid, actually), but I stand by my point that I couldn't really see the point of the show as they did it. (Which isn't to say I expect them to please me, I just thought their choice of songs was odd considering it's been so long since they did a UK show.)
It was good, but I'm not sure what the point of it was.
If you haven't played a UK gig in years, I can think of 3 reasons you might decide to:
1) Get a bunch of new fans – playing a bunch of 15 minute suites that all use the 'Loud–quiet–Snah solo–loud' template and then finishing your gig precisely at the 90-minute mark without an encore isn't likely to win any fans
2) Reward the fans who haven't had the chance to see you live in that time – yeah, no encore is a pretty poor reward. And seriously, with the back catalogue MP have got, it would have killed them to play a couple of 4 minute rockers?
3) Contractual obligation – someone said MP got funding for the gig. It certainly looked like they enjoyed themselves, but again, finishing bang on 90 minutes and walking off looks like a case of "OK, we said we'd play for an hour and a half, we have, let's go".
Like I said at the start, it was a good gig. But Motorpsycho are better than 'good' and if they're going to play more gigs in the UK in future, it'd be better if there's an obvious reason why.
