… with my 19 years old son Bent.
That was another very special evening. Basically the jackpot: Motorpsycho in high spirits at Schlachthof, one of the best clubs in northern Germany – if not the best club – in the company of best mates (including the next generation in the form of my now nineteen-year-old son Bent – his first MP concert, and he loved it) and surrounded by so many lovely psychonautic people – what more could you ask for.
I really liked the setlist: even the beginning with a very deep Bed of Roses – worlds stronger than the comparatively weird studio version (I want that for RW6). This opening already set the tone for the evening: heavy jamming. The set was a really great compilation of convincing interpretations of new songs (not to my chagrin, with Patterns only the best song from the Yay/neigh phase, which I found less moving), all-time favourites (nice surprise: Superstooge – tour debut, if I’m right), heart songs like Lacuna/ Sunrise and hits like Sinful, Kill Some day. And everything was played very strongly: the casual jammy parts (remarkably Whip the ghost right at the beginning) very nicely in harmony with the heavier riffing of the harder songs.
The sound mix was superb, at least where we were standing. The vocals were absolutely flawless – strong between soft and loud. And the interplay between Bent/Snah and Olaf had now reached a lightness by the end of the tour, releasing the power that was sorely lacking at the first gigs. Olaf still had the impression that the hired gun was doing a really good job without leaning out too far. And that leaves the icing on the cake of psychonautic flights of fancy that Kenneth and Tomas made possible in their strongest moments. But we are still at the beginning of a new era here and can enjoy the newly unfolding strength. Reine is now beyond any doubt anyway. The energy he brings to the band can hardly be put into words.
The Schlachthof with its audience area laid out over several terraces in high steps always seems to facilitate a special connection between band and audience. I always think: not only does every member of the audience have a clear view of the stage. The performers on stage should therefore also be able to relate more to the whole audience. That certainly makes a difference. And that is certainly one reason why concerts there are always special.
The atmosphere was great with the exception of the brief fragile moment after Snah was hit on the head by a thrown cup, which seemed to bother him much less than Bent, who after a sharp speech (“To the one who threw the glass on stage: do this once again we wil fuck off.”) briefly gave the impression that his good mood was about to tip over, which fortunately didn’t happen. #youdontthrowthingonsnah Snah was not at all put off by this. Every single time Snah seemed to give us his blessing after songs with his guitar raised #snahisgod.
And at the very end we were treated to a second encore, when they once again gently covered us with Fool’s Gold and released us into the night with the warmest of caresses.
I am very grateful for a great evening. Schlachthof Bremen is such a good place. Psychonauts are such great people and our guys are the best band in the world.
Would anyone want to share some photos of the new merch?
pretty wild tie-dye t-shirts with a picture of Professor Baltahzar
sounds promising.
Does the order from the international MP-shop include a digital copy?
Could one of the pre-orderers please let us know if a download code is included.
Nope. Unfortunately no download code. Disappointing. To be honest.
would write to the shop occasionally (or has someone already?) But first I want to sort out the transport damage – I made a collective order with five copies. Unfortunately all damaged – one more than the other. Bummer.
.
Next time polylined sleeves please!
Lined inner sleeves wouldn’t have been an exaggeration either.
Overall, the packaging is rather unimpressive, especially for the high price. There were times when we could be happy about the form and content. Oh, if only we had a proper label that took care of everything. Wait a minute…
Now we seem to have to accept the back to diy status for the time being.Nagging? Not really. Just observations.
Above all, I’m looking forward to the new music.

My enthusiasm is very limited this time. The announcement text doesn’t really knock my socks off either. Rather the opposite. It does say “not a collection of B-sides or simply leftovers”. But the whole text still sounds exactly like that. Yay! hasn’t really grabbed me yet. It’s definitely the album I’ve listened to the least. And every time it came up in my selection, I thought “Nah, leave it.”
And now I realise: somehow I’m not so keen on what is supposed to be the new Motorpsycho album. Even the new single “All my life (I love you)” doesn’t necessarily increase my anticipation.
What’s more, I’m currently sensing that my desire to pre-order has been significantly dampened because the connection via Stickman is no longer there. Until now it was clear: MP would be ordered from Stickman. Now it feels like it’s completely arbitrary.Incidentally, the feature “Tintype Splatter vinyl Motorpsycho stores exclusive release” is irritating. Because this is exactly the version you can already pre-order from Bandcamp, Juno or Rough Trade. How exclusive is exclusive? Or are there only exclusive releases with the new label?
I really don’t know what to make of the whole reorganisation yet.
So sad. Great loss. True indie rock icon. He will be greatly missed.
Strikingly small clubs, by the way. I wonder what awaits us there? Nice little acoustic tour?Current press photo in duo mode, anyway:

Motorpsycho goes from three to two: – Maybe the best we’ve had
In an Instagram post published on Sunday evening, Motorpsycho announces that they are parting ways with Tomas Järmyr after six years.
photo
In 2022, Motorpsycho released “Ancient Astronauts”. Now three becomes two.The Swede took over the drums after Kenneth Kapstad left the band in 2017. In addition to his time in Motorpsycho, he has played with Årabrot, Black Moon Circle and Yodok, among others. Together with Motorpsycho, he has six releases. The most recent of them, “Ancient Astronauts”, garnered good reviews when it was released last year
– Good luck in future escapades
The post, which is signed Bent Sæter and Hans Magnus Ryan, is a picture of Järmyr. Below, they thank drummer Tomas Järmyr for the collaboration.“We thank TJ for six years of service on board the mothership, and wish him the best of luck in his future escapades as everyone’s favorite freelance drummer. We wish you the best of luck, Tomas – hope you find more meaning, joy, creative fulfillment and happiness out there than we were able to offer.”
Preparing for tour
Bent Sæther says to Adresseavisen that Järmyr “is perhaps the best drummer we’ve had”.But;
– Eventually it turned out that we were too different in method, interests, commitment and ambitions for us to continue together. We wish him the best of luck in the future and are sure that he will find lots of other things and many others that suit him better
Who will eventually replace Järmyr is not yet known.
– We are now on our way to India on a two-week tour and continue with our work, says Sæther.
Tomas Järmyr currently does not wish to comment on the matter
By the way: last night I dreamt that I met KK at some kind of garden party. And he revealed to me – as if we were confidants – that he was going to return to Motorpsycho, but that it was still a secret. Crazy but somehow soothing.
But also I would say that Tomas was/is the best drummer Motorpsycho had. What a pity.Where does the information come from that they don’t pay him enough? Is that proven or just conjecture?
What?! I’m shocked.
But also deeply grateful for all his contribution and the great pleasure it gave us.
Have this “Oh, no. Please don’t” feeling I had when KK left. But from all good experience we have long known: there is always a next level. Again and again. Round and round and round we go…
But the avatar has disappeared. And I have not yet been able to restore it.
Well, it will be alright…
works for me
thanks for your support
