FYI: I wish I was 15, but I will refrain from guessing your age. Furthermore, I’m norwegian, even from Trondheim, If that’s a point here, and lastly: what’s so wrong about being dutch anyway? I like dutch people, why don’t you?
If you’re so caught up with being the perfect fan who accepts just about anything that comes from the band or anywhere else, you should seriously sit down and think over where you’re going with your life.
I’ve been buying every release by the band I could get my hands on, I even got a couple of LP’s, for decorative purposes, and I’m not buying the argument that the sheer level of esotericy of the format is enough to exclude people from listening. All the previous releases has been available in vinyl, and why shouldn’t it be in a cd format this time? what’s the thought behind that? What is so compromizing about releasing it on a CD? Isn’t the form and need to be “different” getting in the way of the music, and is that such a good idea? I’m not nibbling at the hand that provides good music here, but they got my hand, which provides them with money, way down their digestivesystems by doing this.
But, principles aside, I don’t give sh*t, I’ll just download it, but then again, it’s not been a year since the band was out in the media complaining about piracy – I don’t see how they can do that – do they expect everyone to buy a LP player then? how big are these guys’ heads anyway?
What’s so hard to grasp in these questions?
@Krist: Well, in my opinion, the artwork hasn’t been much to chant about, but I can see how that adds to the complete experience for you.
I guess I will be heading over to my brother for this, but no way I will be buying it for myself, I’m gona make that my own personal principle. I’ll be first in line, hanging over the shoulder on the guy who opens the first box of CD-editions of this release, but LP? no way!
Well, I’m sure they have some sort of higher meaning by doing it this way, and I’m apparantly not a true psychonaut, who isn’t able to tap into this big thought, this collective mindset, this big unity, this shared mindlessness that seems to ride this forum, are you guys just gonna sit back and accept this?
(Yes, you are, and because you have a LP player, you’ll even listen to good music while doing it – hehe.)
But me for one, will NOT buy a LP player. That’s final. It takes up a lot of space, it’s expensive, and it makes me dizzy when I look at it.

If the artist wants to continue being an artist (e.g having money to spend on things like food and booze, he’s dependant on the art consumer to some extent, unless he wants to live of governmental grants, which again will have dramatic consequences on the amount of especially booze for the artist, and so he’ll have to adapt to, or at least to some extent adapt to how the consumer wants his work delivered.Simple as that.
Yes, simple it is. And pointless and of no concern here. We are talking of ONE SINGLE RELEASE here. Maybe not releasing everything on vinyl only is how MP adapt to the market situation. Ever thought of that? So cut them some slack with this one new album.
I think you still haven’t understood what I was trying to point at. You, I and we don’t have any given “right” to the artist’s art, so there’s nothing to bitch about. If you don’t want to own a record player, that’s your decision. So be it, live with it. I don’t see where your problem is, how you cannot understand the artists choices and decisions. This isn’t about being the perfect fan, for me it’s simply basic common sense. They don’t want you to buy a record player. They probably do it – gasp! – for fun! Because they themselves are album kids, as Bent stated. Cherishing it with one release. Only one. Now. What’s so hard to grasp about this?
Geez, usually people get mad when their cult band go major or something. WAAAH! SELL OUT!!!! Our boys simply hang on to the trip they’re on. Bad luck for our ipods. How cool is that?

Quote:I don’t know why MP put this one out only on vinyl, and i am not that good on speculating. My guess is that it has something to do with it being special, with special artwork, and Steve Albini recording. Albini records only analog, so it might has someting to do with that, true analog. I don’t know. Or they just don’t want people to listen in their car to the new record. I love the experience of putting a new vinyl record on my turntable, hedphones on, eyes closed and just sail on. If that is what MP intended with this one, than i am up for it.yes.. my guess too.

Quote:My band’s latest release was on a floppy disc, and that was just last year. Had that been Motorpsycho, I figure absolutely EVERYBODY would’ve been pissed off to some extent. []ha! I have a floppy drive, too! I’m safe for everything.
June 11, 2009 at 13:50 #11773the only thing that makes me unhappy is the point that it is delayed and delayed and delayed. indigo, the german distributer sees the release now in July!!! http://www.indigo.de/news/vorschau/
so from my side no worries, no whining about vinyl.
June 11, 2009 at 13:54 #11774Well, pretty friggin UNcool since you ask – They don’t recognize that at least half, and probably even more of their fans who has been contributing by being fans, spending money, coming to shows etc, and therefore helped motorpsycho becoming the 20 year old motorpsycho they are today, will not be able to partake in the 20th anniversary. Have they done this on every record, that’d be just fine, but no. Just this one. Wouldn’t you be steamed if they released this one single album on a medium you hadn’t been able to play?
That’s my point.

June 11, 2009 at 14:00 #11775And it gets more and more amusing. Stalemate, you sound like some lp once stole your girlfriend (or boyfriend, dunno if yr a boy or a girl).
Every now and then when i read this discussion, i look to my left and see my lp collection and it makes me smile every time. I do feel kinda sorry for the people who don’t own a record player and want CotF on cd, really. I understand it’s disapointing for some of you. But don’t have a heartattack over this.
Quote:All the previous releases has been available in vinylnot true, Another Ugly Ep and the Mountain Ep are cd only. I know the boys had a different record label then, but ok. O, and the Bonny Lee/Hyena cd? Would have been nice if they had included a 7″ of it with BH/BC. But you didn’t hear me complain about that (ok, perhaps i did, i don’t remember….)
June 11, 2009 at 14:03 #11776…Hadn’t been able to play…??? OMG!
Again with that. What’s so freakin’ hard about it? Use your imagination, and join the ce1ebration!! :finger: :MPD:
and this ->
“the only thing that makes me unhappy is the point that it is delayed and delayed and delayed. indigo, the german distributer sees the release now in July!!! http://www.indigo.de/news/vorschau/”
Bummer if it’s true. It’s the night before christmas over here
June 11, 2009 at 14:17 #11777Hehe, I don’t mean to be a partypooper here – I’m just asking questions, by all means. Do enjoy it, and don’t worry about me, I’ll be out in the garden with a shovel, if you need to hear what it’s like not having a LP player. *sniffles*
@Krist: Yes. A LP-player touched me in unappropriate ways back when I was 11, if I knew that that arm could swing so fast, I’d step out of the way, my god, isn’t it labeled a hazard to the mental health yet?
And the Ugly and Mountain Ep’s, I don’t care, I have them in my preferred medium, shiny shiny, so there. See how that feels? now go throw away your cd player and feel again.

Oh, and I don’t mean to sound bitter, but I hope the load of vinyl gets transformed into floor tiles, and I get to step on it.

Well you really don’t get my point. Any band doesn’t owe the fans nothing. You might just as well demand their next few records for free since you bought so much already. This is just stupid. It’s their work, it’s their life, it’s what they do. And you keep on ignoring very stubbornly the simple fact, that maybe they don’t care to think all this far anyway and just release a vinyl only thingy because they feel like it. That’s how they do things. Always have done. That’s why and how we got this beloved music in the first place.
I can’t be steamed if they released this one single album on a medium I wouldn’t be able to play because I own the means to play all the music I like because I didn’t buy one single gadget which I demand all the music has to be released for because I bought it. And this without even having a MP3 player.
June 11, 2009 at 14:28 #11780LLM: I was not aware of dutch birthday-traditions, and did not get the reference -at all- and I do sincerely appologize for the emotional and mental stress this must have brought you, besides many a year of pouring coffee considering your old age.
You can have vinyl on your floor for all I care, I just want to have a disc of plastic to put in my cd-player, goddamnit!

Well, then we don’t get each other’s point, and what happens is – chronologically:
1. The bands longevity comes from having a supportive fan-base. Known fact.
2. Therefore the band and the fan has a relationship which means music, and good times <–> money and the occasional cheering at concerts. Subjective judgement.
3. The band has it’s birthday, and half of the concertcheerers, half of the moneybringers and other followers, doesn’t “get invited”. fact.
4. Some fans gets pissed off, and writes laconic and sarcastic posts at the bands forum. fact.
5. Some fans, which are “invited”, gets all defensive, and calls other fans dutch and other nasty things. subjective judgement.
6. Hell breaks loose, because some fans hasn’t got the wits to step away from a impossible discussion. fact.
And here we are. Still not agreeing – big surprise!

June 11, 2009 at 14:51 #11783LLM: Well, there’s the difference that some fans are shut out alltogether, but I see, and enjoy, your points.
And yes, the DVD was a complete waste. I mean, have you actually listened to the directors commentary on some of the videos? I loosely quote mr Hiortøy (I think it’s him) on Hey Jane:
Quote:ummmmm….I don’t know what we were thinking here….there’s some pretty nice dance scenes with Snah later on.Bejaysus. I just barely moved on after that one.
But I’ve enjoyed this, and hopefully I can still roam the streets of Trondheim safely without risking waking up with a DDE-cd in a rarely sunlit place.
vriendelijke groeten
