hey what's this?
http://www.runegrammofon.com/artists/grand-general/rcd-2139-grand-general-grand-general-cd/
the album cover itself makes this a must buy.
February 21, 2013 at 16:41 #23612I keep a lookout for this Album since it appered on the Rune Website. Unfortunately in Germany it doesn't come out before march. Is there a scandinavian psychonaut who can give a first review of the music?
February 21, 2013 at 17:23 #23613Hi!
I
s mindblowing.
I cant not hear it as a similiar record to TDDU, because of Kapstad and Kvernberg.
Its really massive, long songs, spaced-out and huge.
I guess I need more time to listen before I throw the dice, but I think it will build alot after a couple of more listens!
February 21, 2013 at 18:52 #23614Absolutely a must buy.
Most reviewers compare it to Mahavishnu Orchestra but several of the tunes might have slipped un-noticed into the TDDU, also thanks to the excellent bassist Trond Frønes who has composed the music in cooperation with Ola Kvernberg. It was recorded in the same studio and I believe also around the same timeframe as TDDU. And this one also started as a jazz festival project – for Trondheim Jazz festival, first called Kenneth Kapstad group.
It's purely instrumental, so no lyrics to worry about.
February 21, 2013 at 19:21 #23615The cover reminds me to the Elepant9 albums. Is it also made by Kim Hiorthøy?
February 21, 2013 at 19:47 #23616The very same
February 21, 2013 at 20:17 #23617The album is mindblowing!!! Heavy rotation since I got it two weeks ago. Even Helte Hermansen, guitarist of Bushman's Revenge, who also plays guitar on "Grand General", picked up a copy for me of the limited (500) first vinyl edition (incl. Bonus CD) before they started their short 10th anniversary-tour. He brought it to me to their gig in Solingen (Germany). Really nice guys and stunning performance in front of ca. 20 people! If you don't know them check them out!!!
Grand General
Ola Kvernberg: violins, viola
Even Helte Hermansen: guitar
Erlend Slettevoll: keyboards
Trond Frones: bass
Kenneth Kapstad: drums
01 antics 12:20
02 the fall of troy 6:30
03 clandestine 4:07
04 tachyon 6:25
05 ritual 6:02
06 red eye 11:02
It reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra, 70's King Crimson and other early 70's Jazz- and ProgRockBands. GREAT Album, GREAT cover (by Kim Hiorthoy). A definitely must have!!! Hope I have the chance to see them live one day…

They should go on tour together with Elephant9 – That would be amazing.

March 5, 2013 at 15:15 #2362212/15 points.
March 5, 2013 at 21:18 #23623ordered. and haven't heard one single note off it. that's how i trust you. and the cover artwork.
March 9, 2013 at 15:34 #23624weeee only on the 2nd song in and already floored. This is a must for Unicorn lovers. The Fall Of Troy's main riff sounds quite familiar… something like Deep Purple's more proggy riffs? This is a Grand General indeed.
