As the Golden Blissard Demon (part I) and Marc (part II) http://motorpsycho.fix.no/comeonin/oldforums/read.php?1,51571 before me I like to restart an old thread: Gear Talk.
Quote:this thread is meant to be a place to tell everybody about your desires and opinions concerning musical equipment! We are in-between the release of the new album and the tour so there is room to talk about other stuff.
After posting some remarks on the 'Snah's Effect pedals' thread I came up with the idea to bring 'Gear Talk' back to life. There are enough musicians among us so it might be interesting for a few plank-spanker's or key-beaters to show off their rig (compared to Snah's or Bent's) or to talk about personal musical explorations, opinions etc.
You show me yours and I show you mine,
but let me start to show you my rig first:
Guitars:
– Gibson MIII Stealth
– Vintage V100MRPGM 'Lemon Drop'
pics:

Effect pedals:
– Ibanez CP10 compressor/sustainer
– Snarling Dog Very-Tone Dog
– Vox wah modified with a BYOC wah-kit
– Marshall The Guv'nor
– Ibanez TS7 Tubescreamer
– Electro-Harmonix/Sovtek Big Muff pi
– Prescription Electronics Experience
– Dunlop Rotovibe
– Behringer VD400 Analog delay
– Danelectro Reel echo
– Danelectro Back Talk reverse delay
pics:

– Eighties Vox AC 30 amp
As a guitarplayer it's hard not to be influenced by Snah so I'm always interested in his (and your) rig.
Like Snah I'm also fond of creating soundscapes with my effects (partly to cover up my lack of technical ability's).
How far are Motorpsycho's influences entwined in your musicality (and your band)?
February 1, 2010 at 16:07 #16243We’re just recording an album, you can check out some pics on our myspace-site:
http://www.myspace.com/dawnband
For guitars we used Gibson Les Paul, Fender Toronado (modificated), a Taylor electric guitar, Fender Strat, a Martin and a Fender acoustic guitar.
Amps were Orange AD30 head, Music Man 70W head and a Fender Hot Rod combo, Marshall 1960A and 1960BX cabinets.
FX pedals were EH Big Muff, Ibanez Tube Sceamer, Cry Baby Wah, Boss DD-7 Delay and a Danelectro Fab Tone Distortion for some evil sounds.
I will let you know when we’re done!
February 2, 2010 at 02:01 #16245Your guitars & amp set-up looks pretty impressive Daniel!
Do you use a amp switch for clean, lead and rhythm etc.?
I listened to the songs on The Dawnband MySpace and they made me quite curious for the end result of your latest recordings.
It’s just the two of you, + engineer, recording?
Haven’t been in a band myself for around 8 years and that really starts to suck!
I just jam with some friends so now and then but not frequent enough to keep my creative pulse flowing compared to the repetition of a weekly session.
Amongst them are Orpheuse Equipe who pleasure me to let me sit in with them: http://www.myspace.com/orpheusequipe they float in their own stratosphere like Supersilent, and I sometimes get to jam with the guys from The Machine: http://www.myspace.com/themachineband both bands are really great!
Next month I’m going to record some tracks with a good friend of mine, TvdR, for a film project of one of Thomas’ colleges.
Keep me up to date concerning your debut-album, bitte!
Grüßen,
Christiaan
February 4, 2010 at 03:00 #16246Hey!
Have had that musician come and go problems too. Our guitarist left the band a year ago and then we decided to do the damn album just the two of us! So we’re both no real guitarists but we make the best out of it.
Some of the equipment is our own, some was borrowed from friends. We didn’t switch amps during takes, we just took the one that suited best for the song. Most clean stuff was done with the Fender, the Musicman and Orange give a cool duo when doubling guitar.
I played drums in the band Hainloose before ( http://www.myspace.com/hainloose ). We had two albums on Elektrohasch, the label of the guitarist from Colour Haze ( http://www.myspace.com/colourhaze ). Got into the scene through him more or less, I had guitar lessons for one year from him which is a while ago…
So yes, will tell you when the album is ready!
And yeah, you should get into some band again! Where are you from actually?
February 5, 2010 at 00:30 #16247I’m from Holland
July 21, 2010 at 17:10 #16248July 22, 2010 at 14:50 #16249Guitars:
Fender Baja Telecaster
a couple of acoustics
Amp:
Roland Cube 60
Not much, but enough to be a bedroom guitargod
July 22, 2010 at 22:46 #16250Here we go :
Guitars :
Fender Standard Tele USA (’92)
Fenix Les Paul (Korean copy of ’59 standard by the guy who made the first and best Japanese Squiers)
Sold my Yamaha AP-X7 acoustic a few years ago to an MP fan!
FX :
Zvex Fuzz Probe
Dunlop Crybaby (was a gift from a friend, maybe I want to change it…)
Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret (killer with a Tele!!!)
Xotic AC+
Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe +
Pigtronix Echolution
Amps + cab :
Marshall Valvestate 8080 (my first amp, still using the speaker sometimes…)
Fender HotRod Deluxe
Orange Tiny Terror
Sunn Model T reissue (90something)
Hiwatt SE 4123 vintage cab with original Fanes (’73)
These last 2 seem to be a perfect match! Got the cab yesterday and I’m so happy with it
For the moment there’s also a
Squier Strat (Japanese)
Stagg Fretless Bass
Roland keyboard
and an acoustic violin
hanging around from friends/housemates
no need to say that we end up jamming occasionally!
And still there’s a wishlist…. but it’s getting shorter
Unfortunately I’m not in a band for the moment, just doing some noise-drone jamming
with a friend.
We have the chance to play at a festival a few friends from ours are organising, but they’re not really into jamming stuff,
so we probably gonna tell them that we play some funky dance music, just to get are name on the bill.
We ourselves do strongly believe that there is a signifanct audience for the stuff we want to bring
I’ll keep you posted how the story ends. Must be somewhere mid august…
PS : I introduced my friend to MP and he saw their show at AB Brussels
Now he insists that we play K9 suite!!!!
Gonna be fun anyway
cheers
November 29, 2010 at 10:26 #16251I just recently bought a Behringer BDI21 pedal. It's a bass preamp pedal modelled from the more expensive Tech21 Sansamp Bass Driver, which, in turn, is modelled from the Ampeg tube amps. The Tech21 pedal is too expensive for me and hard to get hold of in Norway, and I won't be able to afford an Ampeg stack in years, so I went for the cheaper option.
You can dial in a wide range of sounds on this thing, from smooth, 'barely breaking up' overdrive, to all-out distortion. Add a Big Muff and you have all the distortion you'll ever need.
And despite my initial concerns about Behringers products, this is actually a great pedal! While not an actual tube amp of course, it sure brings out that 'warm tube sound' (buzz word warning!). Just a recommendation for bass players that can't afford the 'real deal'. For 400 NOK it's a steal

Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter
Amps:
Ampeg SVT II
Music Man HD one-fifty

Fender Squier Jazz bass
Guitars:
Epiphone Les Paul Standard 2004
Fender Squier Telecaster 2004 (refinished)
Stuff:
Electroharmonix Big Muff Pi
Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver
Dunlop JH-1 Wah
Amps:
Peavey Special 112
November 30, 2010 at 20:33 #16254Traktorbass: could you compare this Behringer BDI21 with a Xotic BB preamp?
I'm close to buying the xotic, but the thing is expensive as hell.
If the BDI21 is near soundwise, it might be a good alternative (150 euro cheaper).
I've a big muff as well, so I would combine the two.
November 30, 2010 at 22:59 #16255Guitars:
Pimped Fender Toronado with String Through Body Construction
Soon get: Warmoth custom made Fender Jazzmaster, gonna look like this:
Jazzmaster (the one in Lake Placid Blue)
Amp: Orange AD30
Cab: Marshall 1960BX
FX:
Crybaby WahWah
Ibanez TubeScreamer
Boss DD7 Delay with Foot Controller for Tap Tempo
Boss PH 2 Phaser
EH Big Muff
Ibanez DE-7 Delay
Danelelectro DD1 Fab Tone Distortion
Wants: Fender Hot Rod Deville 4×10 to switch A/B with the Orange
November 30, 2010 at 23:56 #16256@Elco: I have never used the Xotic, sorry. But I can tell you that I tested the BDI21 at practice yesterday, and it sounds really good. I think the amp was an Ampeg B100R, and I hooked it up bass->Muff->BDI-amp. For a common reference point, you can get any Bent-sound from that combo, ranging from fuzzladen Demon Box/Trust Us angriness, to a smoother LTEC-sound. Like I said, moneywise it's a no-brainer. But I have no experience with the Xotic
December 1, 2010 at 08:12 #16257I love music, jamming and creating, but time is too limited these days with kids, work etc so listening to music has first priority, then playing. I'm always interested in jamming, but my friends that play instruments are in the same situation as me unfortunately. I've sold some amps and guitars the during the last ten years so this is what I'm left with:
Electric
Epiphone Sheraton (Japan made in the early 70'ies)
Steel string
K. Yairi WY1 (Bob Weir signature model – great sustain and sound)
Nylon string
Alhambra 11P (fantastic to play)
In addition I've got a electric mandolin and a three octave midi keyboard attached to a computer running Cubase with a variety of nice VST plugins.
