It looks as though the moment for this thread has arrived. If you are not completely against the very idea, what would you like the band to cover live (that they have not already done)? Maybe give a link too for our consideration.
Here’s my vote. Nektar’s King of Twilight – based on their live version rather than the studio track.
October 15, 2023 at 22:16 #42055“King of twilight” is great! For me also very associated with Iron Maiden from when I was a kid (b-side of the 1984 “Aces high” single). And since Mp has done “The trooper” during soundchecks it would all make sense – everything’s connected :D
October 15, 2023 at 23:07 #42057@grindove: Glad you approve! Nice connection! In case you haven’t seen it, check out on YouTube the 1973 footage from Swiss TV, recently unearthed, with Crying in the Dark / King of Twilight closing the show.
October 15, 2023 at 23:12 #42058Glad you apprOVE
Well, my name is not Ove for nothing
October 17, 2023 at 22:09 #42073They need to finally include President Block in their live repertoire!!!
October 18, 2023 at 13:45 #42088Now that we are playing old covers again, it’s time to bring back The House At Pooneil Corners! Their coolest cover ever.
And it has to start with that angst-inducing do-di-do-di-dee, do-di-do-di-DEE-organ! That was opportunities missed both when Ståle joined them, as well as when Deathprod returned for Demon Box anniversary.March 3, 2024 at 16:04 #42577@supernaut: This thread would welcome your ‘Stray’ contribution! It does sound like just the sort of thing the band could beef up.
March 3, 2024 at 19:58 #42579Yeah obviously! Didn’t remember this thread…
March 4, 2024 at 13:30 #42582Would love for them to cover this cult band. Sea Shanties is a forgotten, horribly underrated classic.
March 4, 2024 at 17:58 #42583ooops I guess I should also put that one from the other obsolete topic here:
March 4, 2024 at 19:40 #42584Yep – House at Pooneil Corners again! If Bent still manages the “Screamo” vocals, that is. “Have You Seen The Saucers” would also be a very welcome Airplane cover. “Mountains of the Moon”? Why not…
July 28, 2025 at 21:38 #44701I thought I’d resurrect this thread as some ideas are coming in again over on the Burg Herzberg 2025 thread.
I think some Budgie would really suit Motorpsycho. I’m talking classic Budgie – not the inferior NWOBHM incarnation of the band.
I know many here will be familiar with them, but, for the uninitiated, Budgie were a Welsh three-piece playing hard rock with some softer, acoustic and atmospheric interludes. They were led by the late Burke Shelley who was bassist and singer with a vocal range not unlike that of Geddy Lee, and, therefore, in the Bent envelope, I’d say.
Motorpsycho are kings of the massive riff. Budgie surely held that title in the 70s. On some of their greats, there might be a gentle preamble before the beast is unleashed. Once the riff gets going, there is so much space for some great improvisation. A Motorpsycho cover could actually top the original in that respect.
I just think they would love playing this stuff.
Breadfan is already taken by Metallica. In for the Kill is an obvious one. However, I would be keen to hear what they could do with epics like Napoleon Bona Parts 1 & 2 or Zoom Club. Here is the latter for reference:
July 28, 2025 at 22:36 #44702I would also go for House at Pooneil Corners. And to stay in 60’s San Francisco: Dark Star!
July 29, 2025 at 11:05 #44704I’m a great fan of “House at Pooneil Corners” – in both JA and MP versions. Monster tune! Apocalyptic Flamenco! Would always like to have it back, though I think Bent might be reluctant to go back to the “screamo vocals” period. Did that for “Demon Box” though.
In the end better leave it to MP to surprise us once again with old tunes, new covers and new old interpretations.
As for Dark Star: Un Chien gets as close as motorpsychedically realistic – even with its average 23 min. length ;-)
BTW: How many time since the last Chien? Time for banners at gigs?-

July 29, 2025 at 19:22 #44706I expect they will surprise us on their terms, but it’s good fun to fantasise!
