Ah, that is nice to use one’s imagination. It seems that mine is not so in full bloom. I listened to The Hunt once again just for that reason. And I can understand what you are hearing and feeling while listening. But to me it still feels like a MP song and not a kind of Solo career Song. And it is a perfect MP song. That kind of song because -inter alia- I love that band. It is the transfer of music history into their own MP universe. Eclecticism. The positive one.
The following song "After the Fair" fits perfectly to The Hunt (the most interesting song on the album).
April 16, 2021 at 18:07 #38110you might have misunderstood me. I was describing the person which Bent's vocals remind me of, and that person was in a trio, then later had a solo career. And as a few pointed out, yes it is Sting.

Some need a few more spins. Underwritten? Aimless? Rushed? I mean if it doesn't move you. it doesn't. If you don't like it, you don't. Totally normal, no argument there. But underwritten and half arsed rushed? Whaaaat? Even the "straight rocker" (again… whaaat?) The Waning is super intricate. Maybe give it a few spins in headphones. Those details and finesses in the composition and production and the love and care for every little note are simply outstandig. Compared to this album, our beloved in nostalgia AADAPs or Blissards feel way more rushed and underwritten to me. Which is not a criticism per se. I like Wearing yr Smell and The Cosmonautic Lurker Thing just as well. But… say… whaaaat? If anything, I'd say it could be critised for being NOT raw and underwritten, or not spontaneous or spaced out jammy enough…
Maybe some really are just overdosed.
April 16, 2021 at 18:24 #38111Really nice diversion from the more dramatic stuff of the "Gullvag" years. Still a little too clean for my taste. Even a little math-rock inspired zappa/vai-style guitar wanking included on "Cosmoctopus Lurker".
My favourite part is clearly side three – the gloomy Empire's End, the Hunt, the Jansch-inspiret Atet. There are several elephants in the room this time – not only the whiskered one and the one-legged one with(out)the flute. Some obvious references with typically MP style mock-reverence titles like the "Cormorant". Tony Iommi style riffs all over the album. A quiet Roy-Harper vocal melody introducing "Dreamkiller". The folk-inspired or acoustic pieces give a nice contrast and make up for the more streamlined hard rock pieces like "The Waning" – the latter could have been called "After the Gold Rush pts 2a and b" lyricwise. They should have named the album "A little light music" and themselves "Elephant's memory" for this one. Still they're the only ones who do what they do, so no real criticism on my part. I'm really starting to enjoy the album already.
April 16, 2021 at 18:30 #38112@ Supernaut: Glad you didn't refer to Phil Collins (shudder…)
April 16, 2021 at 18:52 #38113@Johnny great post, I agree
April 16, 2021 at 19:13 #38114I was a bit quick in my reaction yesterday, guess I was pretty disappointed. But I do think it’s been a bit too many MP records of late (I could never imagine myself saying this). But the records are feeling a bit claustrophobic, like they need some fresh air. Though this album really does bring some light and air, not so monolithic. But still. I was thinking that bringing Deathprod back could maybe be a good thing, Bent is great, but an outside eye is always good. Not so closed up. Locked up. To let the songs breathe. Ozone. Don’t know.
And I abs loved that interview w Bent on that jazznytt thing ThorEgil posted in another thread btw. So interesting. More of this, please. It’s important to get this guy talking. About the music
April 16, 2021 at 20:00 #38115Being mostly with Supernaut. with the exception of the Sting thing. .Motorpsycho 2021 at their best…
live in present. Don‘t compare. just listen and enjoy all of it. Give it a proper Spin or a few spins before judge. All these details. just wow….magic like the old stuff? We‘ll see…
April 17, 2021 at 15:40 #38116Holy shit.. this Lurker. Supreme! I think it killed my speakers though ^^ Anyway… can't get enough of it. Even if I am not into it for years now, the solo comes some way close to Dream Theater
April 17, 2021 at 16:45 #38117Hei min venn,
it's interesting to read what you feel about the new albuum. For me – until 2008 at Herzberg – there was just one song – "Wheel"…All things have changed since I listened to them on that gorgeous show @ Forum 2008. And "LLM" is still my fave. But I think this new one will move up to #1. Believe me or just stay…not plain. But I really love the Grateful Dead (being Hardcore Deadhead), those never did anything close to an album ike that. All Dead albums are…live it's better. So this MP album is good. Sting vocals on
"The Hunt" maybe. The music is Jethro Tull meets the Haze of Colour. Stoner…Psych… Progressive…? All in here. Best MP album ever. Dot. Spacey.

April 17, 2021 at 17:48 #38119@ Spacebandit: For once I disagree most distinctly – the best MP album is always the next to come! As for the Dead – come on, there is no MP album like "Anthem of the Sun"! Alright, I agree – there is also no Dead album like "Kingom of Oblivion". They're both the only ones who do what they do…
April 17, 2021 at 18:08 #38120Guys,
This Album starts at minute 10 of song "The Trasmutation of Cosmoctopus Lurker.

April 17, 2021 at 18:36 #38121Downstairs playing the lp's, and the order of the songs is fixed although you can pick a side 1-4 to put on, but upstairs, playing the cd IN RANDOM ORDER , some fascinating events happened. One morning all the atmospheric and folky stuff followed upon one-another, and it was the new MP album. Then yester-eve all the hardrock stuff was picked out of it and it was another the new MP album. But I know it's good when the earworms start kicking in and I find myself singing Lady May or the reffrain of the title-song. The Cosmoctopus is indeed sensational and could very well be named Larks Tongues in Aspic part 7 (or is it , although I cannot experience it as a unity or 'song'. But hey, that crazy spiralling guitar part from a stage will sure be something! :MPD:
April 17, 2021 at 19:31 #38122@Johnny_Heartfield But MP got the better “I know you Riderâ€
April 17, 2021 at 19:39 #38123Quote:the solo comes some way close to Dream TheaterYeah, this is a real shame as far as I'm concerned. I can't stand those types of solos – all notes and no soul. It's off-putting to hear Snah play like that and making it harder for me to get into the Lurker.
EDIT: OK, I've listened to this a couple more times and, as stated, the solo comes some way close to DT, but – ever so thankfully – doesn't reach there. I'm finally beginning to open to this track and discover its delights.
