EDIT: ignore me, apparently it's on purpose? but mislabelled? I'm confused.
Same issue here (yellow vinyl, rune grammofon): I tested side two, music was actually Taifun. Label says side two / sleepwalking / lacuna.
It's more than mislabeling – it's a mispressing! What should be side 6 has been pressed on side 2, what should be side 2 is on side 3, etc.
So I guess that makes it safe to assume it's the case for all copies, as ErlendN said.
I don't know how exactly how vinyl pressing plants work, but I believe the process goes something like this: they receive the source material (as digital files?), instructions on what goes on which side, and an order to press 500 copies on yellow vinyl, and x copies on black – then they execute the order, pressing the same source material on yellow and black vinyl.
So if I'm somewhat correct about the process then I would assume the black vinyl has the same issue. But I guess we'll find out.
And unless someone decided "eh, we'll send out these mispressed copies" it should be safe to assume that no one has discovered this problem before TraktorBass.
Oh well, enough speculation, in any case this is the first mispressed MP vinyl I own! Let's hope it becomes a valuable collectible
June 16, 2018 at 21:00 #32726Yes, it’s on purpose, like the first Garrard-type pressing of Demon Box. So the order is side a/f, b/c, d/e. Ship Of Fools segues into Taifun if you listen closely. The mislabelling however, was not planned.. 🤷â€â™‚ï¸
June 17, 2018 at 13:03 #32727But to make sense as auto-coupling (or "Garrard-type", as you call it), it should be A/F, B/E, C/D, I suppose.
June 17, 2018 at 20:51 #32728Hi kids!
We have the following physically records (standard edition at least)
side 1 / 2: ship of fools / sleepwalking & lacuna pt I
side 3 / 4: lacuna pt II & manmover / unchien pt I
side 5 / 6: unchien pt II / taifun
The trick with two turntables is play the two splitted songs unchien and
lacuna without interruption, this is done by following order of actions:
turntable a: play side 1, turn record and play side 2
turntable b: play side 3, turn record and play side 4
turntable a: play side 5, turn record and play side 6.
Other option is of course to buy two sets and play whatever order
wanted without interruption
Uhmm, such layout:
side 1 / 2: ships of fools / taifun
side 3 / 4: sleepwalking & lacuna pt 1 / lacuna pt 2 & Manmower
side 5 / 6: unchien pt 1 / unchien pt 2
don't make any sense, impossible to play this "correct" even with
two turntables. lacuna pt 2 and unchien pt 1 must be swapped.
a the good thing is ability to play entire lacuna (or unchien) with just one
record.
June 17, 2018 at 20:54 #32729Or just play the CDs
June 17, 2018 at 22:02 #32730(@Mikke) Haha, have you tried 2 sets of RW5 on 3 turntables ?
seriously: I sure hope there will be a cd only release, for all tables in my house are square ones…or am I supposed to use the lp's as yet more Motospsychotic wall decoration? The heat of this summer's sunrays upon them might curl them up into some nice MP ashtrays! Now there's merchandise!
June 18, 2018 at 05:22 #32731Strange. Reminds me of the original Woodstok 3lp which has 1/6, 3/4, 2/5.
@Mefisto: only the Rune edition includes cds unfortunately.
Btw, could Taifun be from the Zwolle show? I was there and remember it being about this long and including a flugel solo.
June 18, 2018 at 09:24 #32732@KristRampage: I think it's likely Taifun is from Zwolle, yes. The long fadeout with Snah's looped guitars suggests it ended the show, which it only did in Zwolle that tour. But I think it's one of those instances where we'll never know 100% unless someone in the loop confirms…
June 18, 2018 at 11:23 #32733Im confused as I havent gotten the records yet, but if this is the case:
side 1 / 2: ships of fools / taifun
side 3 / 4: sleepwalking & lacuna pt 1 / lacuna pt 2 & Manmower
side 5 / 6: unchien pt 1 / unchien pt 2
Then thats for the better, as it puts the same songs are on the same disc.
June 18, 2018 at 12:12 #32734From the Stickman site:
Those of you who will be getting Motorpsycho’s Roadwork 5 triple LP later this week will find a “special feature†on your LP that is not evident at first glance, and which was very much unplanned.
The band had a special request, which was to press the sides as follows on the three vinyl discs:
Disc 1: Sides 1 and 6
Disc 2: Sides 2 and 3
Disc 3: Sides 4 and 5
A little bit of time travel, so to speak.
The pressing plant followed these instructions to the letter…. until it came to the labels. They are glued onto the discs in the normal order of 1-6.
We will do our best to have them “get†this with the second pressing, which is in fact being ordered today. And for the rest of you: enjoy your misprints, which will be sought-after rarities soon.
June 18, 2018 at 21:14 #32735Does anybody know if Roadwork vol. 5 will be available on spotify on friday?
June 19, 2018 at 09:40 #32736Received my copies op vol. 1, 3 and 5 today !
It seems that 3 and 5 aren't on Discogs. How can we add these releases?
June 19, 2018 at 19:15 #32737Damn, I hope to get my RW V copy as soon as possible
June 19, 2018 at 19:59 #32738I know someone in the UK who got his vols 1-5 from Rune yesterday, but I'm still waiting for my order.
June 20, 2018 at 09:17 #32739@ffbernie: did you order the Stickman or the Rune version? I'm a "little bit" of a collector but hesitated to get the Stickman one because of Norwegian customs laws likely would have made it really expensive. Now I see that the Stickman version is transparent vinyl and the Rune one is solid vinyl, and I would love to get the Stickman version as well… Ah the pains (and joys) of the collector…
