I've listened to the album 5 times now, and it just gets better and better. while the lyrical content and overall flamboyant grandiosity of the whole thing is surely tongue in cheek (but done, as with previous side projects such as Tussler, with great love ands respect) I can't help but flow along with the deeply dramatic mood and "big" lyrical themes.
I can't quite put my finger on what it exactly is I like so much with this album, but I feel there is something of a coming together of the, often disparate, elements that make up motorpsycho, a distillation if you will to a perfect musical concentrate.
as someone else said before me: MASTER-fucking-PIECE!
February 17, 2012 at 10:58 #21346a remark about the Mutiny/Changes inspiration: once more the band's perfect musical understanding is revealed. It's the only good moment on that Yes record and they pick it and make something great with it.
February 17, 2012 at 12:55 #21347TDDU debuted at #8 on the Norwegian VG Lista.
Too bad they didn't start selling the digital version at the same time, or they would've debuted higher…
February 17, 2012 at 13:17 #21348The more I listen the more I love this album. The sax solo on "La Lethe" is incredibly cool (and emotional). The "Mutiny" and "Into the Mystic" combo is legendary. It doesn't get much better than that.
February 17, 2012 at 13:57 #21349Finally came home from a job abroad to find this (thanks, Anagrm):

Two listens later I'm going to hold back a little on my reactions (last night I was saying it's better than Meddle), but it really is something to be a hardcore fan of a CURRENT band that keeps evolving like this! What a privilege! Almost all of my other favourite bands were past their prime when I discovered them (mostly from being too young – I was four in 1971, for instance), but THESE GUYS!
Not only are they from my home town, but they are doing some of their best work NOW!
I can go to a gig and hear Gullible's Travails as the opener!
And then they do THIS!?
Thanks, guys. It's an honour and a privilege.
Tonight I'm having friends over for Lasagne and Unicorn.
Cheers! Sail on!

February 17, 2012 at 14:27 #21352February 17, 2012 at 14:59 #21353where did you get the autographs?
February 17, 2012 at 15:09 #21354Big Dipper Oslo and Trondheim had a limited number of signed copies of both vinyl and CDs which were sold at the release parties in both cities together with the DDU T-shirts
(T-shirts still available from Rune grammofon).
The record sounds way better with the signatures

February 17, 2012 at 22:12 #21357Danke Stooka
"This album makes King Crimson appear like dwarves" is a bit over euphoric (blasphemic even ) by the author I think, but Bent referring to KC's most fiercely phase when talking about what to expect from the upcowing shows rises expectations here
I wonder why different sources are talking about this album having "more than two hours playing time" – was that written in the press info or can some people simply not count correct (84 minutes = 2h4m)?! In the end it might be that Molde show of 2h+ causing confusion…
February 18, 2012 at 01:01 #21358The Lasagne and Unicorn evening proved two things:
1) It's a great album
2) Don't serve too much Caol Ila
