Now I’m discovering the pre Revolver stuff. There’s wonderful popsong craftmanship before that one. The whole Help! album is perfect. Especially Hide Your love Away and Ticket to Ride. And then I Saw Her Standing There, Drive my Car, Norwegian Wood, If I Needed Someone, A Hard Day’s Night, Can’t Buy Me Love, Day Tripper, I Wanna Be Your Man, You Can’t Do That, Anytime At All, Things We said Today… shedloads of brilliance.
I’m not sooooo bedazzled by the whole Sgt Pepper and Revolver albums and there is some filler stuff on the White Album too. About half of each album amazes me. From this period I prefer the weirder songs on Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour such as Hey Bulldog, It’s All Too Much, Only A Northern Song, Blue Jay Way, Baby You’re A Rich Man and the probably best ever written song by humankind I Am The Walrus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnpil_pRUiw&feature=related
If they’d omitted Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, the Abbey Road album would be perfect.
October 12, 2009 at 16:34 #12696I kinda liked Maxwells Silver Hammer.
October 13, 2009 at 09:34 #12697it wants to be liked. it’s the little cute ever happy neighbor’s boy, rabbit teeth & glasses. but it’s also one of those ballroom mccartneys giving me a hard time to listen to. like Obladidelida. Martha my Dear and When I’m 64.
November 14, 2009 at 13:33 #12698Them Crooked Vultures are touring germany. Probably leaves everybody cold right now considering but we are going to Cologne. I’m spending money like mad this year for rocknroll midlife crisis panik attacks.

November 14, 2009 at 17:03 #12700I like a lot of stuff unrelated to MP. One of my favourite bands after MP is the Scottisch band Elbow! They’ve released four marvellous albums between 2001 and last year. Their oevre is full deep sadness, great beauty, the sweetest melodies, and a driving, sometimes rocking force! We still believe in love so fuck you! Grace under pressure (as they named one of their finest songs)! Alone Guy Garvey’s voice: powerful, meaningful, dominating and at the same time so incredibly soft and warm and sad. I’d mary his voice if I could! An Elbow-concert is absolutely fantastic, too! Go see them if you get the chance. Throw those curtains wide, one day like this a year would seem me right!
Another beloved band of mine is Modest Mouse which probably more people know. Especially their early stuff from the nineties is Killerindierock. I recommend “The lonesome crowded west” and “Building nothing out of something” if you don’t know them.
An older band I really like is Queen, btw. I’m not talking about their greatest hits or their later output in general, but about their first three albums. There are two songs on those which made it to the best-of-albums, the rest is hardly known! Unbelivable, imho. It’s fantastic progressive indierock, very diverse and playful, and full of glam rock anthems… Hum,.. I know, in the end it’ a matter of taste!

Stormtroopers in Stilletoes! And some gnarly ones on “Jazz”. And of course the fast rockers like Sheer Heart Attack, Tie Your Mother Down, Stone Cold Crazy, Seven Seas of Rhye…
