Alright – Let’s go!
Lots of work ahead – transferring all those recordings from hard discs and torrent sites to the Motorpsycho space on archive.org. And a few rules to stick to (see info on MP page and archive/etree requirements). But no rocket technology involved, as far as i can see.
In order to lift a little weight from the shoulders of those pillars of MP recording and trading that have almost singlehandedly managed a great part of distributing and uploading on the torrent sites (I salute you!), it might be useful to spread the uploading activity for the new MP database a little wider – agreement and permission of the original recorders and distributers provided. If possible the original creators of live recordings should be named and tagged. Please let it be known if that is alright four you, all you heroes of Motorpsycho concert documentation!January 11, 2025 at 00:34 #43720I’ve already started uploading my own recordings, and will continue until they’re all up. The process is pretty easy, but my lord it’s slow… It seems archive.org throttles uploads so they don’t get overloaded. Which I totally understand and respect. But at the speed I’m getting I can probably only do 1 show per day at most, maybe 2 on weekends. Which, again, is totally ok. But it means it will take some time to get through it all.
I don’t mind if anyone else uploads my recordings, but this is a nice opportunity for me to go through them all and correct any mistakes or whatnot (e.g. I already found some files originally tagged as “New song, unknown title”, but now we know the title, so I corrected it). So I’d prefer to upload my own recordings myself :)
When all of my own stuff is done I’ll start uploading shows I didn’t record myself. Permission from the original taper shouldn’t be required, right? To quote from the announcement: “all audience recordings are good to go up on the Archive ASAP”. And all circulating audience recordings have (afaik) already been shared for free by the original taper, so it shouldn’t be a problem in that regard. And some tapers from back in the day might not be around or involved in the community anymore, so getting permission from them could be impossible. And I guess the band has the final say anyway, right? Of course everyone involved should be credited and all info about a given recording should be included and preserved as completely as possible.
January 11, 2025 at 13:04 #43721@ Rolf: Good point – the band has the final say in giving uploading o.k.
As the process is so slow, it is most important that we spread the uploading activity as broadly as possible. I’ll start uploading this weekend. Thanks for your uploads so far!
