what is uploaded there is not our doing and i wouldn't encourage anybody do up or download the official records! we should make clear, that we are strictly against that.

regarding the official bootlegs… these are the roadwork records. i will always buy vinyl if there is a vinyl.

what we are talking about here is only the tapes made and uploaded on dime. they are on dime anyways. so why not make them accesable more easy due archive?

lets not search for reasons why not to do it. what we need is a contact in the management and then we just ask. if they say no, we don't do it. if the apply certain rules. we agree to them and do like the say.

@The Other Anders: Just putting it out there as an alternative to archive.org for uploading bootlegs.

@dongonz: You might have to prove you're not a robot.

What we need is not the umpteenth alternative, but the go from Motorpsycho management. Besides uloz.to is hosting everything, also illegal rips and stolen music. Not that I am a saint in this field, but this will hardly convince any band management. Let's stick to the good old archive and clear it with MP!

Please comment on my attempt. If you agree I would sent something like that:

                  Dear Motorpsycho Management,

my Name is Marcel and I am a big fan for more or less 20 years now. I regulary attend the concerts in Leipzig, Berlin and Dresden and I consider myself somewhat of a very very lucky guy calling Motorpsycho my absolute favourite Band.

I am also discussing Motorpsycho-related stuff in the fix.no forum and after another breathtaking European Tour we were thinking, that it would be awesome to make the many many Bootleg Tapes made over the years more easily accessable to the family. Back in the days Motorpsycho gave their go for fan-recordings and distribution in the fanbase. Over many years this went on over the torrent-platform dimedozen. Since torrents are kind of dead and the process of sharing is becoming more and more complicated, we thought of an alternative.

Several options were named and we agreed that the achive.org plattform would be perfect. We also agreed, that we don't like the idea to proceed without the permission of the band and the management. So I am writing to you and seek for the permission.

We would be very happy to receive a positive answer for our undertaking.

                  Greetings

                  Marcel

As a happy camper on dime and motortrades for the last decade or something it is completely news for me that torrents should somehow be dead. They work just fine in my world, and I somehow like the concept the you have to give some to get some. I don't believe torrents will disappear anytime soon.

As for the UI of archive.org site it looks very confusing for someone used to the simplicity of dime and motortrades, but I assume it is workable if I look into it. But – mp3??

Apart from that – no objections.

It might be nitpicking, and some might disagree, but I would use "fan-recordings" instead of "Bootleg Tapes", as "bootleg" indicates actual pressing and sale of releases. I also do not consider my contributions to our archives bootlegs, as they are taped with the band knowing and accepting it, and shared freely in the family, as agreed upon.

I looked up numerous definitions of "bootleg", most say something like "To produce, distribute, or sell without permission or illegally", which is exactly what we don't do.

This definition from https://www.rarerecords.net/record-info/bootleg-records/ comes closest to how I understand bootlegging in music:

"In the strictest sense, a bootleg record is an album that has been pressed and released by a third party who has no relationship with the recording artist or the artist's record company and which has been released with neither the knowledge or approval of either."

Therefor I prefer "fan-recording" to "bootleg".

                          My proposed corrections / alterations:

Since most of the older torrents are now kind of dead and the process of sharing is becoming more and more complicated for some people obviously, we thought of an alternative.

Several options were named and we agreed that the live music archive on the achive.org plattform would be perfect. Not only is it home to the massive Grateful Dead live tape collection, but it has since developped and hosts lots of fan recordings from other interesting bands. Besides there is a policy at archive.org to stick to the copyrights of musicians and seek their permission.

We agreed in the Motorpsycho forum that we don't like the idea to proceed without permission of band and management. We are certain that this will not diminish Motorpsycho's income in any way – on the other hand there might be raising even more interest in the band via an archive.org Motorpsycho collection of fan recordings. Should any conflicts arise uploaders could easyly be contacted with their given archive.org mail adress.

Very good idea to mention the Grateful Dead precedent.
