Well said. Records, CDs, merchandise, tickets – generally all at fair price with motorpsycho :MPD:

Easy to say that if you dont like it, dont buy it, and I have thought the same about other releases earlier, but this is starting to feel like somebody is exploiting the psyconauts.

I hope there is some cigarettes in the box as well, cus I love a smoke after I been screwed!

All jokes aside, I dont think its the bands intention to fuck over the fans, but I just paid a lot of money for a live recording of my favorite band, rapped in a lot of stuff that I dont care much for, and I feel a little ripped off.

      Hi there!

Is there anyone here from Germany who is only interested in the CD/BluRay and Book? Because I would like to have the Vinyls only – we could buy the Box Set for 1150 Kronen and share LPs and the rest (and of course the insane shipping costs) then…

! If you don't like it, don't buy it !

I totally agree, it's really that simple. Maybe I'm blessed not being a completist, and I won't be getting the box because DB is not my favourite record of the band, so why should I get it?

But if they treated their 94-98 production this way I would prob pay up, or at least get the books because if there is one thing I am interested in 20 years later it would be a literary/biographical treatment of the band during this period of time. The music I already know, and already love. But the nerd in me needs information!

As for the other "specials", En Konsert for folk flest, Begynnelser and the Unicorn: These are all my favourite Kenneth-era recordings, even beating the Tower, so they are of course all worth the price in my mind. Bring it on – more conceptual weirdness in nice Rune packaging! Though they seem to be flowing out every other year so I'm pretty happy. If not, it's also OK, the world will still keep spinning. And I will always have Guinevere on my mind. And maybe a future Trust Us boxset.

And I'm sure all the DB people out there will be very happy w this box. As for the completists – tough luck! :P

"If you don't like it, don't buy it". Yeah I won't, still is it allowed to give an opinion?

I actually do like the DB concert and would like to have the DVD and/or vinyl but in a package so expensive it just doesn't make sense to me either.

Whereas it's great they make such an effort with the book / design and all it would've been cool to be able to just buy the DVD alone. And as package with vinyl or CD plus book.

I happily chime in, too: If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Or even more basic: Pretend there's no release happening. Because how can someone complain about something that comes into being without being involved in the making? It's a mind thing, an attitude towards things. MP could also not release anything about this DB birthday event, not even talk about it and no one would be bothered about anything.

Assuming Motorpsycho haven't suddenly turned into some greedy bastards needing to finance their new luxury yacht – be happy that some of your money is going into financing recording of the next MP album.

I attended an interview with Bent about the writing processg, by psychonaut Jan Schwarzkamp, at Trondheim Calling yesterday. Among a lot of other things he said that the songwriting towards the next album is done, recording it is the next step.

(Btw, I bumped into Bent at a jazz concert last week – so I assume the next album will be an accoustic jazz trio album :MPD: )

And it'll be one of the best accoustic jazz trio albums you ever heard. ☺

Haha. Actually, Bent said it won't happen – but only because he sucks at playing the double bass.

I like it, but I won't buy it.

Hope all of you who like it won't hesitate to buy it, because I will definitely be buying the next studio release, and some of you claim money will go in that direction. Which is awesome. So go ahead, let the good dimes roll!

Hey folks. I think in this case I have to agree with the critics. I don’t really get why MP haven’t been more considerate towards the larger fanbase with this project.

MP know that most of their fans don’t live in Norway but abroad, and they therefore should be aware that those people most likely don’t understand Norwegian. So why would they not give people the opportunity to simply ditch the books and just go for the CD or LP bundle? I can only speak for myself, but I’m into the band because of the music, some author’s thoughts on an album is merely the icing on the cake, especially if I lack the knowledge to understand his writing. Yes, I do get the whole idea of bringing together literature and music, the album is called Demon BOX, a literary reference (most likely), so let’s bundle everything up in a neat little package. But the again, why can I order the books on their own? The interest in the music is probably way greater, at present there are only two backers for the literature-only package. I guess most of us are record and music enthusiasts, so why not give people the opportunity to choose what they want to invest their money in? Demon Box is my favourite album of all time and I’d hate missing out on a professional, official live recording of this masterpiece, but the project at its current state forces me to acquire goods I have no real interest in. Will we be able to buy a downsized, music-only release in the future? No-one knows, so you better get moving and pay within the next 30 days, otherwise you might lose out.

Thor Egil wrote that shipping from Norway was expensive, but it is probably also so expensive because one simply has to buy so many wares. And we can also discuss whether MP had to release a limited item through a crowdfunder situated in Norway. Other limited releases, like the Konsert For Folk Flest could be acquired at a reasonable price (including shipping) from Stickman. The audience for a “normal” limited release through the label exists, since Demon Box is still one of MP’s most lauded and beloved albums. Even if they still wanted to fund the project with the help of funde.no, non-Norwegian-speaking music lovers should be given the chance to acquire the CD or LP package on its own, so the shipping costs don’t become unbearable. Just to give you an example of how other bands deal with the whole funding business: The Swedish metal band Entombed also crowdfunded the recording of a special album celebration back in 2016. One could choose to spend money on all kinds of fancy packages or simply buy the recording of the concert as a digipack made up of two CDs and a DVD. That simple package was sold for 25€ including shipping.

If you want books, LPs, handwritten lyric sheets, that’s great. If you’ve got the money to pay for all of that to be delivered from Norge to your doorstep in Italy, that’s even better. But I’m a student from Germany and I wasn’t expecting to spend something like 130€ (CD package plus dispatch) to get the new live release from my favourite band. That’s a lot of money for most people, esspecially the younger fans. I agree, MP have always treated their fans really well, three-hour concerts for thirty euros and rereleases for the same price show that the band care about their listeners. Still, I believe that those criticising the whole crowdfunding campaign raise valid points and the statement “If you don’t like it, don’t buy it” falls short. I like parts of the box, other parts I don’t like, and I can’t choose to buy the parts I prefer. I don’t believe that’s too much to ask. Maybe we could ask the band whether they would be willing to sell the audio and video files as downloads…

Lovely boxset! I was at the concert and really looking forward to it! As Im Norwegian, i dont think its that expensive and i would have bought the LPs, the blueray and the books had they been sold separately or what ever anyway. But that said, find it kind of weird that they don't have a "standard" LP and CD option as well. Lots of people would probably double up and bought that one as well ( there s money to be made here motorpsychoguys!)

                    #32006

I like it too but i won't buy it. The question is if it needs all things in the package which is more or less the same content on three formats for over 100 Euro…

Or better: If you like it buy it, if you don't like it don't buy it, 'nuff said, and shut down this whole discussion board…

                    #32007

My heart goes out to each and every b(lo)ody that feels ripped off but the most expolitative band in the history of recorded music. I mean, who do these bastards think that they are, eh?

Jesus fucking Snah, you guys are too much.

And it is always the same lame-ass excuses. I cannot afford it because blah blah blah. Well, you are grown men, aren't you? Get a fucking credit card and stop whining like you are still in kindergarten or perhaps try to save up some money for moments such ase these. It is actually do-able. Or even better: buy one off of me from eBay in a month or three. No problem, dudes, I have ten of each. But most likely: you will justify copying the whole thing for free off some friendly hippie doofus since you didn't get the combination of formats that was tailor-made to suit your needs. 'Because they didn't make it three 7'' singles, one ep and a BETAMAX'. Like all true Psychonauts do… :D

Really, who cares about supporting a band that already are planning to use some of the money they made from this project to finance the recording of their next album. For which we should be more than grateful. I do agree that they could have made a couple of cheaper options and I also see the point about shipping. Then again, shipping is hella expensive in Norway, even for the unfortunate locals. That is why you usually buy your stuff (as if) from Stickman.

Had these been the only points most people were making, I could have easily lived with it and felt a little bit sad for your broke asses. But instead some of you are talking about being ripped off because you bought (or refused to buy) a project they wanted to make something special out of. What a crock of absolute shaite the internet is that made people feel that it was okay to always behave with such an obscene amount of entitlement :finger:
