    This is a sad day….

But I knew this day eventually would come…

the day when I bought a motorpsycho record – regretting afterwards…

Listening to some parts of the tracks before buying I feared for the worst, but hoped for the best.

To me this is the musical equivalent to a massive star running out of gas and collapsing in on it self and becoming a black hole.

In order to be creative musicians you have to take risks and sometimes you make a fool of your self, that´s ok. That´s what they did with have spacesuit will travel and roadwork 2, terrible music…the thing I can´t forgive them is to do miserable attempts once more to make a fancy jazz record…the unicorn is in my opinion the definite proof that mp have no future…they have run out of musical creativity and descended into a jazzyfucked universe to the point of no return…

All that mp had of glory has vanished: no more beautiful pop ballads…no magnificent build up droning songs – like golden core and vortex surfer…no riffy jamming…

Earlier the use of noise in the music had a function…now it´s just annoying spice to nonsense music…

    Well…I could go on…and on…

The point is this record woke me up…I am no longer a fan…after having spent thousands of kroners on mp-records and stuff…I do not regret…because this trip has been a beautiful one as well….my point is just…mp has not hold on to the trip their on….they have lost it completely…

    sorry…my disappointment has no end…

If you should get so depressed as to wanting to sell your Lobotomizer or Demon box vinyls I'm sure we would be able to help you

This is the nice thing with these guys – always up to something new.

so the band has lost its way and ran out of creeativity because their way is not yours anymore, or the one way you expect them to take by writing vortex surfer and the golden core parts 2 to 8760876? that's a bit weird.

maybe you want to take a break and listen to the unicorn in a few months again.

yeh either mr nelson is a mean little jester or he should listen to "mutiny" AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE!

            #21699

Of course this is different, try it once more Nelson!

Well. That proves it then. You're not a fan! Cus the new album is packed with exactly that! Beautiful ballads, Magnificent build up droning songs, riffy jamming, and functional noise. Plus the sound of a band that has evolved since 94-98 thank god.

Hm, i will listen to it a few more times after had a few spins from the luisterpaal. But i fear that this will be the first record of Motorpsycho i won't buy since years.

What does the guy said on the Roadwork vol. 4?

                "Kicking out the marmelade."

                "I get it."

                Unicorn?

                I don't get it.

This is so far not my kind of music i want to listen to. Most of the time it feels like i am sitting in a musical. I hate musicals.

You have every right to be disappointed when one of your favorite bands releases an album you think is utter shit. That's quite natural.

But it is a bit contradictory when you feel that they've run out of gas/creativity, and yet you want them to continue with The Golden Core/Vortex Surfer/Un Chien D'espace/insert random MP classic here. If they'd have done the latter, then I would agree with you that they've run out of ideas. And just wanted a money-grab.

The fact that you disagree with their current musical direction is fine by me. This world would be boring as fuck if everyone liked the same bands all of the time.

"I can never go back, I can never go back there…"

"I could never go back, I could never go back there…"

This is where they are now, and I for one, am enjoying the trip… 8)

BTW – For anyone who hasn't heard the album yet, they're Bent's lyrics from 'Through the Veil'

                    Lyrics inside?

                    Maybe that would help.

Oh, it happened to me 10 years ago with the unlistenable ItsaLoveCult, but I'm still alive!

                    ???

I think Fishtank is fancy jazz, and is for sure the best thing MP did so far since Trust Us. Unicorn is not jazzy at all.

Apart for your concept of "jazzyfucked universe" (which is totally off the way), I see your point and I agree about musical creativity.

In fact, I don't agree with those who consider Unicorn a masterpiece. It lacks of the main characteristic of masterpieces: originality! No, Tommy is a masterpiece. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a masterpiece. The Wall, Tales from Topographic Oceans are masterpiece. Just naming the first 2LP concept album that pop to my mind.

The Unicorn has nothing new and no inventions inside. Everything you listen in these 80 minutes are sorts of stereotypes of 70s rock operas, King Crimson prog (the bass/hi-hat change at 6:15 of Into the Gyre is pure "Larks Tongues in Aspic"), VdGG atmospheres (and the lyric concept itself, see "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers"), and much more (uhm… REALLY, no jazz!)

Our beloved guys know it VERY well! Since they found Kenneth, they're living a new "youth", and they really seem like "playing" their favourite game, creating these epic, pretentious, overlong jamming songs, using funny titles for almost everything, and closing this prog trilogy with the most PROGGY thing that popped in their minds.

New masterpieces? C'mon, they're 43, I can't think of anyone starting creating masterpieces at 43 (except Carl Barks). The HUGE contribution of MP to music history starts with Demon Box and ends with Trust Us. Mr Nelson wants the "beautiful pop ballads" while I'm so glad they abandoned that "Cake/Thyme/Cult" shit to do some ROCK. They don't do anything new, but they do it fuckin' good, which is a very good point when you're publishing your 14th album! And as long as the quality of their live performances are the same of the 25 concerts I witnessed so far, well, they can really publish ANYTHING they want!

P.S.: Side 3 of Unicorn IS A MASTERPIECE. I consider it the only piece of music produced by MP that is at "Trust Us" level since '98!

On the other hand, Side 4 is horrible: Sharks is boring, Mutiny is very very very BAD, and the closing resume "Into the Mystic" (other than being so obvious) is quite useless… Considering that I saw many positive comments to Mutiny and many negative comments on La Lethe, that's what I mean with "tastes are tastes"!

I would feel better if I could say something else , but I have to be honest .

                    I don't like the Unicorn .

Most of the time It doesn't work for me .

I can recommend the new CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX "(Mankind) The Crafty Ape" to everybody

whith the same kind of "problem" .

…hanging on to the trip you're on since 1994
