WATCHOUT FOR DISCOKLO…..
July 3, 2009 at 10:07 #12681I’m so fired up about this, lemme start a topic that is beyond Motorpsychedelism. If inappropriate for whatever reason, can it.
BUT till then:
http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2009/07/homme-grohl-john-paul-jones-new-band/
I repeat: HOMME, GROHL, JONES!
This beats Rossi, Tardelli, Altobelli by a million miles. And if Patton joins in, o my o my. Jones never really got to shine on that 07 reunion, I missed him going off like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGHWxLruLvA
July 3, 2009 at 15:36 #12682WOW! This is GREAT news! Must be my dream living rhythm section.

July 4, 2009 at 11:35 #12684talking about recent news, these days I’m really into last Tortoise’s album. It’s simply amazing! I was waiting for something like that since “TNT” times (is it a little off topic? )
July 5, 2009 at 14:52 #12685yeah I thought we could use this topic for any music besides Motorpsycho. due to the forum’s structure…
or let’s have a subforum for that. like the marketplace.
July 5, 2009 at 21:46 #12686The new Mastodon album is cool “Crack The Skye”!
July 7, 2009 at 11:38 #12687Currently three bands are high on my play counters:
– Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds; as I am trying to complete my collection of his vast musical output, which is not an easy task by any means. –> http://nickcaveandthebadseeds.com/
– Terry de Castro; well, not a band, but rather the bass player of The Wedding Present, Goya Dress & Cinerama. “A Casa Verde” is her first solo album, filled with great folksy tunes. Very lovely, very recommended. –> http://www.myspace.com/terrydecastro
– The Dø; This unusual and eclectic duo from France got me when I saw them playing live at the Southside Festival a couple of weeks ago. I bought their album “A Mouthful” and that contains a large range of different styles. However it is more on the melodic/poppy side mostly and the voice of the (female) singer is one I needed to get used to first –> http://www.thedo.info/DO/
July 7, 2009 at 14:42 #12688I lost track of Nick Cave a bit. Bad thing to do. Grinderman is good.
And check this:

one beat, one clip, 15 minutes!
get down!
July 7, 2009 at 14:43 #12689I’m into PJ Harvey again lately. Got almost all albums now.
July 7, 2009 at 23:52 #12690I like PJ Harvey a lot. Just recently I gave her albums a spin again (I own all of them up to “Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea”).
Seeing Nick Cave live at the Southside Festival was a blast. He is just an incredible performer and frontman and the Bad Seeds are and amazing band and very, very loud, too. Songs like “Tupelo”, a more brutal version of “The Weeping Song” and “Stagger Lee” are just crazy.
@”Babe I’m Fire” – yup that’s a good one. Unfortunately that’s from the last album with Blixa Bargeld. However, as I love the current one “Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!” also (and a lot, too) I think The Bad Seeds will remain relevant for a long time to come, even considering that founding member and driving force Mick Harvey recently left the band.

October 10, 2009 at 14:05 #12692I’m totally beatled right now. From watching documentaries to slamming away on that “beatles rockband” plastic guitar…
Sometimes I honestly do think MP is the greatest thing since deep freezed pizza but the Beatles… dang, those ideas in those times and the sustain of it all. Were they so way ahead of everyone or did (at least white) music simply stall in 1970?
In terms of sound and production it seems to me that the aim of every guitar fx pedal ever invented is to recreate something the Beatles did at some point in the studio, fiddling with amps and tapes and whatnot.
October 10, 2009 at 15:57 #12693BEATLES!
I love them too (who doesn’t?), but only really worship them from ‘Rubber Soul’ onwards.
I think it was a matter of fearlessness and experimentation that made them so prolific and special. There were no rules to break for what they were doing, they were creating a new idiom, so that made them totally free. IMHO.
The spirit of not being willing to repeat yourself and to keep things interesting for the musicians first, is an enormous influence on our friends MP. Again, IMHO.

Thomas
October 10, 2009 at 22:58 #12694got the new Do Make Say Think album friday and already I think this album is very good. not that the music is like Motorpsycho, but i think a lot of fans of MP will like DMST.
From this year Fever Ray and the latest to Wilco are the best i think. and after i saw Grizzly Bear i bought their latest album and it’s really a great album. i couldn’t understand all the fuzz of this band in the beginning.
and the last months i have listened a lot to The Knife.
(vinyl vs cd discussion : I love that both DMST and Wilco put a cd of the album in the “vinyl package” so i can play it in my car when i drive for work)
