Stings my ears. Man I need a break from MP, see you guys in five years, after ten new RG albums I’m sure, or in ten years and 20 albums if this ridiculous pace continues. Or until they get an outside producer again. Deathprod? I’m logging off. Bye bye. Have fun!

I'll sit this one out. Great artwork, but now that i listened to it, i really don't see myself ever pulling it out of the shelf again. It certainly is well-crafted music, but it doesn't do anything for me emotionally. Except maybe for the title track (Snah can't do no wrong!) and "At Empire's end", which would have been a great B-Side on one of the 10inch EPs. The rest feels more like a rather random sequence of riffs and sketches, instead of real songs. Odd meters, layers of sound, twists and turns…but what for? What is the core of the idea?
What always made MP special for me, was the urgency of the songs. The feeling that it is absolutely impossible that there ever was a world without their songs in it. How did mankind ever exist without "Un chien", "S.T.G.", "Vortex Surfer"?(add any song you like to the list). By now, i barely see that anymore.
Still, i am sincerely happy for everyone drawing joy from it.

After only one spin (mind you), i kind of agree with marc. A fair amount of the material seems rushed and unfinished. And i'm not impressed by the track order either. It makes the album seem aimless and somewhat disjointed. But there's certainly gold in there. The lurker is a beast!
Gonna give it some more spins this weekend, and see if it grows on me
I can sorta see the criticism regarding some songs being slightly unfinished/underwritten.
But we all know the reason behind that (the last year has put everything to a halt)
And I actually like that because it means the songs/arrangements haven't been polished
to death. So in that sense this is a fairly raw record.
hm… actually, i disagree a lot with some of you. but thats ok. I really like this one way more then the last three albums. i hoped for something else then 40 minutes tracks or blunt lyrics, political messages and stuff. this is much more what i need right now. some … don't know… 'in your face rock'n roll. looking forward to see the songs played live
@GBD interesting. I see a clear structure in this album. Kicking off with classic proggy rock, the mood gets more and more sombre when it falls down into the abyss of The Watcher and Dreamkiller. Then Atet is some kind of bridge to the dreamy and emotionally strong final part, culminating in the scathing Lurker.
I understand what some of you say about feeling unfinished. But for me, that’s something really really satisfying. These songs will develop on stage over the years. And this will bring back some magic and surprise to the concerts that was in some way lost over the last decade.
Think of the long way Un Chien has come, or Hogwash, or Fool’s Gold.
When I hear this album I get chills down my spine when I imagine the next years of live performances.

@Kid A: No doubt about this material being great for the live setting. So i totally agree with you there. And time will show if my opinion will change. I spun through it on fairly ordinary headphones right before bed, so i'm not convinced that my views are 100% legit. It was just the feeling i was left with after finishing. It surely will need more time to grow. And as with so many of their albums, i hope that also this one will end up making sense and knock my socks off
