I see that Motorpycho is on the next Mojo cd Heavy Nuggets vol 4
December 20, 2016 at 11:24 #29876December 20, 2016 at 21:23 #29877Wonder which song they went for in the compilation? The most Sabbath-sounding song they've released would be W.B.A.T., imo. So Sabbath-sounding, in fact, that the riff is almost a carbon copy of A National Acrobat off the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album. Come to think of it, the whole arrangement makes it sound like a SBS outtake.
…but I'm guessing they would have chosen something newer. Hell 1-3, perhaps?
EDIT: Make that Hell 1-2, actually.
December 21, 2016 at 07:29 #29878According to discogs it Lacuna / sunrise on the cd
December 21, 2016 at 17:14 #29879Well, Lacuna/Sunrise isn't exactly very Sabbath-inspired, apart from the songtitle.
I agree that Hell, WBAT or even Starhammer would make more sense.
December 22, 2016 at 01:41 #29880Good to see the Motorpsycho name on another compilation. But although a great song, Lacuna/sunrise seems like an odd choice…Gonna fall in and say that W.B.A.T would be THE song to put on a compilation like this.
December 23, 2016 at 16:35 #29881Amazing, needed a couple of days to see the Laguna Sunrise connection:)
December 24, 2016 at 17:58 #29882Cornucopia! But Lacuna fits as well, since BS's own Laguna Sunrise was a mellow piece, too.
January 4, 2017 at 15:55 #29883From MOJO's introduction to the CD:
Taking their name from a 1965 movie by Russ Meyer, the godfather of US sexploitation, Trondheim outfit Motorpsycho have made some of the most inspired, progressive records on the planet in the past 25 years. Their latest, Here Be Monsters, is no exception, and features this Mellotron-soaked tune. Inspired by near-namesake Sabbath song Laguna Sunrise, interwoven guitar leads you to the ehart of track with its sense of Californian warmth. Bask in it.
There's also an Elephant 9 track on the CD, "Dodovoodoo"
The convergence between jazz and prog rock scenes was arguably more evident when Sabbath emerged than it is today. Yet that spirit lives on in Norway, home to the remarkable Rune Grammfon label to whom Elephant 9 are signed (as are fellow adventurers Motorpsycho). Formed a decade ago in Oslo, here the three-piece delivers a pernicious organ-blaster redolent of Purple's free-form moments. We challenge tou not to get down!
January 4, 2017 at 18:52 #29884Wow, that's a very cool introduction to people who don't know the band, and that in a magazine like Mojo. Good for the boys.
January 4, 2017 at 20:14 #29885Mojo has written nicely about Motorpsycho earlier as well. Their albums regularly get good/great reviews, and in their review of the Øya festival in 2006, Mojo labeled Motorpsycho "Europe's best kept secret" (or something similar).
But yes, a very cool introduction.
