Thought i’d try and create another off topic for the rest of us (No ofence Mark – it’s just abit much in there). And i’ll start it off with a kind of lame, but fun music memory game

      http://ababasoft.com/music/music01.html

Check it out, and see how far you can go :)

Thought I’d just chime in and say how much I appreciate this place!

Thank you to all those who make it possible to discuss Motorpsycho here and talk to likeminded (monominded?) people, music lovers and most importantly; psychonauts of all ages and creeds from anywhere on the globe. Thank you!

        That is all.

Oh good idea, I thought about that too. I’m not too bothered about that other thread though, because I don’t even see it anymore since hitting that nice ignore button. :)

I gotta admit, a few days I was a bit worried about the reactions I got for my opinions concerning the new release. Hell, I thought, I’ve always seen psychonauts as open people. And that thread was a bummer. But I guess I tend to be a contrathinker in all areas. I sought communication with fans from a couple of my favourite bands – and they are diverse (current top 3: Pet Shop Boys, Calexico, NOFX) – and often was looked upon queerly for not behaving like expected.

Some stuff: I was at a Tocotronic (German indie-rock) concert in Vienna and got quite pissed by moshers. I fell in love with the bands later, mellower material and found that I dispised those who wanted to hear their older, more punky stuff.

I also was at at New Order concert in Torino and got also pissed off by moshers. What the hell, arent NO a pop band? Appearently they aren’t to their fans. I mentioned my displeasure with the fans behaviour in a single sentence whilst reviewing the show in the Neworderonline-forum and immediately got bashed for that. It seems its natural to pogo to that kind of music. Weird.

And then there was this Sisters of Mercy concert. I was there wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt, and all around me where people dressed in black. I never perceived the Sisters as goth, not even they themselves do that, quite the opposite, actually, but there were hordes of dodgey darklings around and I overheard one saying “I wouldn’t even go to a Sisters gig wearing white”. Strange.

I’m pretty sure there was another story but I forgot.

But I gotta say, at Motorpsychos gigs, I felt myself at home. Also at The Wedding Present concert last fall.

Regarding the OT thread: I won’t ignore Mark. He’s got many a nice point both in there and other threads. I just think he might have overused that thread abit. In between his posts, someone tried to talk about the death of fabchannel among other things. It would have been nice to discuss that for awhile, but his posts hid the story. So. Let’s try again shall we…

Well….i don’t think you should put that much into it. That’s the beauty and the beast about forums in general. You’ll always find people who doesen’t agree with your thoughts. And that’s a good thing. Imagine how dull it would be if everybody agreed all the time?! :)

As for the shows you describhe: Is there a dressing code for enjoying a band? Sounds pretty stupid to me…

                A little side note ->

If you music lovers in here haven’t already checked them out, then i urge you to take a look at the fancy swedish jazz trio — “Esbjörn Svensson Trio”

Been listening to the cd Tuesday Wonderland all day, and i’m really diggin’ it.

                Jazz with fuzz. Nice!

Ok back to you folks :)

@supernaut: Well, I will try to make myself clearer: I always perceived Motorpsychos fanbase as open (as in open-minded). As Traktorbass said: “psychonauts of all ages and creeds from anywhere on the globe”. And as such, I thought it would be natural that, as (listening) habits vary from person to person, my opinion wouldn’t be bashed so hard; even if it stood against the beliefs of other psychonauts and Motorpsycho themselves.

@GBD: I know one should not read to much into internet discussion. Truth is, I naturally take people seriously, be it in real life or internet; and when I stumble about things bothering me, I react the same way in both worlds; I cannot just cast ’em aside and forget about them.

And regarding Mark: to me, he is blathering about things endlessly; I’ve read some his writings and none really gained my interest. And his articles are really clogging up some parts of the forum so I chose to simply ignore them.

And concerning your sidenote: E.S.T. is quite nice, yes.

I don’t think you were bashed by anyone. I didn’t bash you.

[preachyteachy mode ON]I see an open mind not as something one can claim from the other. It’s something one delivers in the first place. It’s how one deals with all the contradictionary point of views of all the others. It’s easy to tolerate same-thinking peers, there’s nothing open minded about that. [preachyteachy mode OFF]

In this special case: Allow the artist to make his art available as he sees fit and accept it without feeling screwed just because one prefers to get it on a different medium. The only one that got bashed in that topic was the band itself. By an open-minded fanbase of psychonauts.

well, about the bashing.. i got the impression there is quite a number of psychonauts feeling …how do I put this… not really offended, but not really happy either with people preferring cd or digital files.

You yourself implied it would be better or superior to listen to records as intended by bands. I myself was an “album person” for a long time but switched to being more of a “songs person” in the last couple of years. that is also a matter of taste & choice, i believe.

concerning your preachy-teachy-stuff: i know that.. also I’ve repeatedly said I’ve got nothing against releasing stuff on vinyl or people listening to vinyl in general, it just is beyond me what is the harm in releasing a cd simultaneously. also, sure, i accept their decisions, it’s their stuff and they can do with it what they want, but that doesn’t mean i have to like it – being open-minded does not forbid uttering your opinion.

Yeah, sure: You go to http://www.gravatar.com , sign up with the e-mail adress used here too, activate your account, log in, upload a picture and it should automatically show up.

I know, it’s not the simplest method of setting an avatar, but it works :)

                                @jtr

Maybe some vinyl freaks are offended by the digital generation. Me I’m not. What offends me are two things that came along with the upcoming of digital distribution.

                                a) The customer’s demand. Customers think they got a right to art and its choice of container. Because they got the latest devices with tons of GB, they demand it be filled and switched and updated and whatnot. This must never be the artist’s concern.

                                b) The perception of art’s value. I know of people who are actually offended if they have to buy an album when they only like 2 or 3 songs on it. Art has become a self service supermarket.

And as the first bad consequence: More or less obviously there’s a demand for free music for everyone everytime everywhere a-creeping. Just because this is technically possible and totally zeitgeist and people have lost the ability to wait for an album release date.

In ye olde days music has inspired people, so they went and bought some technical things to listen to it. Now the gadgets inspire people, and they demand music to use them.

jesus, I’d make a good preacher.

A little side note again, but this is what happens we only have one (or actually two if we include the mark one) places were we discuss non MP stuff

What if we have a whole off topic section (like the setlist, media section), wewe can start new OT subtopics. So can fabchannel, jazz and whatnot be a bit easier to discuss.

                                  no?
