I will probably be attending this years Nødutgangfestival in Bodø with one of my more avant-garde projects. While browsing through the artists booked for the festival, i came across this band. See anything familiar? ->

DEL is a Norwegian drone-space-freak-psychedelic-noise-out-rock band formed in 1996.Kjell Runar “Killer” Jenssen had been a founding member of Motorpsycho, playing drums on their first two releases, Maiden Voyage (1990) and Lobotomizer (1991). He had also been involved in numerous other bands, including Swamiis. Per Gisle GalÃ¥en was playing in Slowburn and lots of other bands. Lasse Marhaug had been doing solo noise music for many years and was also involved in the group Origami Replika.

The idea was to have a band that would obsessivly pursue the goal of reaching the perfect drone. The instrumentation was based on a core of drums, percussion, guitars and electronics, but over the years the band has incorporated location recordings, cello, theremin, double bass, organ and basically anything they see fit into their sound world.

Their constant search for new sounds has resulted in numerous guests on studio recordings and for live performances, most notably Fredrik Ness Sevendal, who has since become the fourth member of the band. Other collaborators include Kai Mikalsen, John Birger Wormdahl, Alexander Rishaug, Tore Honoré Bøe, Audun Eriksen, and Mr. Cosmonaut of Cosmonauts Hail Satan.

As both Jenssen and Marhaug have have backgrounds as movie projectionists and all band members are film buffs, they always incorporated sonic and visual film references in DEL’s works (some even too obscure for some of the members) and performed live to many cinematic gems.

It’ll be fun to check them out and see what they’re about
