Don van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart died Friday December 17th. from complications from multiple sclerosis in California.
Combining elements of free jazz, blues and rock, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band produced what is commonly regarded by critics and fans as one of rock's few truly original bodies of work.
Don van Vliet retired from the music industry after 1982's Ice Cream For Crow album to concentrate on his primary love – paint.
The world has lost a unique individual.
Some people have the gift of opening your eyes to things you didn't see before, Captain Beefheart opened my ears! Thank you Don!
Trust Us (Strictly Personal, 1968):
The path is the mask of love a way a way
The flow is the task above today there is no other way (repeat)
You gotta trust us when you need a friend
To find us you gotta look within
You gotta trust us (repeat) before you turn to dust (repeat)
You gotta see before you see you gotta be before be
(we love you)
You gotta touch without take
You gotta hear without fear
You gotta feel to reveal
You gotta touch without take
Such is is and uh ain't is ain't (repeat)
We're for you love you with you love you just a few
We love you we tell you true we love you
The path is youth let the dying die
The path is life yeah; let the lying lie
Let the dying die let the lying lie
(trust trust trust)

December 18, 2010 at 13:10 #18714I wouldn't be surprised if MP actually pay tribute to his memory in Stavanger tonight.
Anyone think they're gonna do a cover of Big Eyed Beans From Venus, or something?
Anyway, RIP mr. Van Vliet. Even though you haven't released anything new in 28 years, your legacy still lives on…
December 18, 2010 at 15:52 #18715Neither of the three lads are terribly versatile vocalists, and although they're brilliant musicians I can't really see them delving into the more complicated time signatures and unlikely harmonic progressions ol' Beefy was renowned for. If they honour his memory with a cover I'd see this as a likely candidate:
