the effenaar site suggests it's a one off show for the venue's 40th anniversary:
awesomeness
the venue for BCN was L'Ovella Negra del Poblenou. It's a rather unassuming concrete building away from the toutist center (where some of the Ovella Negra chain's other locations are). I don't think it's a tourist trap as i don't see any tourist making it to this part of town – it's a bit of a concrete jungle.
The inside was, surprisingly, composed of a big restaurant/bar/buffet area on the ground floor, with a basement bar and stage. It looked way cooler than one would expect, and was certainly a different venue than usual!
The gig was at the basement. Best pic I could find is this one. And yes, that is a pillar right in front of the stage!
And here's an impression of the restaurant area:
@ seattle psychonaut: do you have a recording of vienna 08?
love the 1st 4 tracks! with wishing well being the stand-out for me. KDH and Al dont do it do much for me yet
as for the cover, my wife, who is a new yorker, says the number 45 is wearing pinstripes and that would make him a New York Yankee.
also the ad in the bakcground is for Wise chips, which dates the picture as some time after 1922, when the company was founded. the company is mainly active on the east coast and some mid western states.
The Ace was played on these dates:
2006 with Jacco: 24/4, 25/4, 26/4, 4/5, 5/5, 9/5, 12/5
2008: 19/4, 28/4, 29/4, 21/10
2009: 4/11
2010: 8/6
I was lucky enought to see it twice (4/5/06 and 21/10/08) and both time it was fun! i recall at least once a video projection behind it with snah flying fighter planes.
we're flying in from amsterdam to barcelona for the gig and a long weekend there.
Duna Jam part 2 is on youtube as well. it's 5.32, making the total available for the song 15.02.
However, part 2 cuts off before the end so this could well be a contnder for RW IV.
here are both:
both rotterdam 2008 and amsterdam 2010 both were long, well over the 10 min mark, and would be great candidates for a roadwork.
in rotterdam AiL was the 2nd and last encore and had some magic moments in the end with excellent interaction between band (bent) and the crowd. in amsterdam, AiL closed the main set and I recall a long build-up.
they also played AiL at Dusseldorf, Zakk 12.10.08
Let's hope for Rotterdam 20/10/2008. It's my favourite show of the Kenneth era.
Outstanding setlist, great jamming, and a very respective audience will make for a great RW!
Teaser here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op3vFSKalDk. I don't have the full show, but if anyone has this on aud/vid, please PM me for a trade.
Setlist:
1. Un Chien
2. Year Zero >
3. Glow >
4. Hogwash > Halleluwah > Hogwash
5. Taifun
6. She Left on the Sunship
7. Step Inside
8. Vanishing Point
9. Greener >
10. Flick of the Wrist
11. Little Lucid Moments
12. All is Loneliness
thanks rob!
the dates are now available on the stickmann website. jeannette confirmed that the gravedigger show has been moved to another venue.
btw: that klokgebouw looks like an awesome venue for a gig! Please report back after the slayer gig
it depends on where you stay as well. if you stay norht or east, generally stansted will be fine. if you stay south or west, gatwick is a much easier.
capacity at Barfly is estimated at 150 – 200.
barlfy would be an excellent venue to see mp. mean fiddler are probably their promotors; they manage artists and venues.
i don’t think it will be the short version, any differences in sound are very subtle only.
